It is really bad a times.

I found when you had to protect a group of soldiers from spawning enemies the FPS would almost grind to a halt.

Same, it was so bad that I thought it went into -5fps 😂

No but seriously, this needs patching and it's so far the only flaw with the game.

Remember when Ps4's main selling point was 1080p 60fps? 1f602.png1f44c.png

Lol I do and same thing on how the pro can run native 4k (at least it does in some).  Even though it didn't live up to that, I still love their exclusives.

That sentence was directed at op to make them have realistic expectations!

So a patch to make it a stable 30 frames is something one can expect

Horrible frame rate in 60% of the fight. Getting between 5-8 FPS. This can't have been tested or remedy just decided to rape console owners and dont give a fuck.

I've finished the first two story missions on a Pro and the only noticeable drops so far are when exiting the pause menu but that is also present on PC according to a review I watched.

Control is a PC game, developed for PC as the primary platform, and It is one of the first games to fully utilize the complete suite of Ray-Tracing features. Obviously its going to be demanding, especially on old hardware and aging consoles (like the PS4 slim and XBOX ONE S). That said: I have only actually seen PC footage so far, and haven't played any of the console versions - so I don't know how well optimized the console versions are. I'm actually waiting for Digital Foundry's verdict to see how the ports holdup to the PC version on high-end hardware. Obviously they don't have Ray-Tracing or some of the bells & whistles, but I'm mainly curious about resolution and frame stability on the Pro vs base consoles.

For the most part the game runs great on my PS4 Pro.  As a few others have mentioned, when the particle effects start going crazy then there are VERY noticable frame drops.  The encounter that @reiner-mentioned was pretty bad.  It was basically a slideshow at that point.  Hopefully they can put a patch out that locks it in at 30fps.  Honestly though, I'm having a great time with the game despite the occasional frame drops.

Digital Foundry just released their analysis of the console ports of this game running on all four platforms. I knew that even heavily paired down it would tax console hardware, but It's only 1080p/30fps on PS4 Pro (which is weird since it's 900p/30fps on PS4), and a laughable 720p/30fps XBOX ONE!?

They get to framerate analysis at 14:40

Spoiler: The PS4 Pro version has serious sustained drops into the teens, while the standard PS4 has MUCH worse stability and even lower sustained drops (to the point it's nearly unplayable in certain chaotic sections). The BAD NEWS Guys... Digital Foundry suspects these drops are not typical frame drops, and instead due to inate hardware limitations with either the CPU or Memory, and might NOT BE ABLE TO BE FIXED with a patch! That said: they ALSO backtrack abit by stating that, it hopefully is something else that CAN be fixed (basically they hope their suspicions are wrong). So eitherway, not a good situation for Base PS4 owners right now.

This is why it pays to not preorder games, and avoid buying on day one until the reviews and tech analysises are fully out.

Shame. I was curious about this game but the bad performance is going to keep me away for now.

I am starting to think the same.

No surprise that I had the exact same problems, lots of random "freezes" for a couple of seconds and fps drops into low tens during intense fights.

My verdict is that it's not worth 60 bucks, especially with the length of the game. It had potential but fell short, gameplay was fun tho. Even if they fix the fps issues i probably would still recommend to wait for a sale.

No one should be playing Control on base systems and expect stable smooth 30fps. If you bought the game and playing on a base system, sorry for you then.

Even the refreshed hardware is having some performance issues. PS4 Pro only able to do 1080p, and XBox One X only doing 1440p, not even full 4K or anywhere close to 60fps.

After watching the DF video, I'm not sure if I should just get it on PS4 Pro now or wait to play it on PS5? Would there be a difference in performance on PS5 playing this in backwards compatible mode? Do you think they have been working on a Control Remastered / Complete Edition with all DLC to come out after the PS5 releases? Maybe true 4K and 60fps? Perhaps even some RTX? I really want to play this game though, but I'm not sure if I should just sit back and wait instead.

I've really been looking forward to this game since it was announced in 2018 and really intrigued by the story and gameplay.

Lmao they marketed the console as 60fps 1080p, it can't even do 30 fps and you're blaming the consumers for being pissed off? 😁👍

Blame developers not base PS4 or other things

Yeah, not buying a Pro this late in the game unless my regular PS4 goes kapooey.   PS5 is just around the corner now.
