Lion King and Aladdin Games Getting Remastered

54 posts in this topic

I loved both games on the Mega Drive (Genesis)!

May just have to pick them up for a bit more nostalgia.. 👍

I'd play these games even without trophies damn. Aladdin was a blast and pretty chill but Lion King.... let's say that Dark Souls is the Lion King of RPG. THAT GAME WAS BRUTAL.

Being chased by the stampede again...such beautiful times.

Oh wow, they are actually doing it!

I came in here about to write "It's far too late, or far too early, for an April Fool's gag"

Can't wait for scrubs to complain about the games not having :platinum: They wouldn't get it anyway because they'd get bodied in Lion King alone

The games have fast forward and tutorials, so don't count on it being as hard as in the past. And I hope it has two platinums!

Who wants to bet these are literally just the same 25 year old roms I have on my Retropi and Everdrives, running completely unaltered on a in-house emulator? Just like Capcom's: The Disney Afternoon Collection, Megaman Collections, Beatemup Collection, etc - probably the very same emulator they use, because isn't Capcom also responsible for the SNES ports of Aladdin and Lion King too? Actually I wonder who's Publishing this, as I doubt they bothered to put in the effort to get someone like M2 to port and enhance these.

Ofcourse, I'll nodoubt re-purchase them in this collection for the umpteenth time just for the trophies; though what I REALLY want is a Ducktales Remastered or Castle of Illusion Remastered quality effort for my money. Those where examples were they called them remasters, but infact they where really groundup remakes.

But this brings me to a pet peeve of mine: Escapist THESE ARE NOT REMASTERS!

You can ALREADY take these same games on a real SNES or Genesis/MegaDrive (with RGB cables and a frameister or OSSC) and play these in HD 1080p. There was no remastering done here most likely, just thrown into a emulator with a rewind feature and some bezels, and then some bonus material stuffed into a hub menu... yes there was work done, but not Blue Point level remastering of the assets (nothing was redrawn or touchedup).

I just hate how many websites (and some people) call EVERY re-release of a old game a Remaster - these are enhanced HD ports, and barely even that.

Well atleast it includes the arguably superior Genesis/MegaDrive version of Aladdin, so like I said: I'll be buying this!

I would be happy if they actually ported Ducktales Remastered and Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse on the actual PS4. Would get more people playing those games for sure.

Anyway, if it's like DOOM 1, DOOM 2, The Disney Afternoon Collection, Megaman Legacy Collections and the buttload of re-releases of old games, then this will very likely just be a touched up port of the Lion King and Aladdin games in 1080p. That's good enough, because they're old games that you originally played on an old television set that probably played your old VHS tapes for you.

I played The Lion King and Aladdin games back in 1994 - 1997 on my Sega Genesis, before I got a Nintendo 64. Never owned them, used to go to a local rental store that is now long gone and I usually got one game every few weeks. Wasn't good enough to get too far in the games. Aladdin was definitely great though.

Pretty much a flip of the coin. But I have a bad feeling that this collection will NOT be getting a platinum. If the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Contra Anniversary Collection showed us anything, it could just be 'beat the game' and a gold trophy for 'beat all games in the collection'. Yet the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection gets a platinum, and all three DOOM games from id Software gets one platinum each.

There is absolutely no consistency, because it's literally a flip of the coin. But I'm holding my breath that this isn't going to be yet another slapped together trophy list with a bunch of bronzes.

I did Megaman Legacy Collection 2. All bronze trophies. So anything could happen.

Good maybe it'll stop all the posts on FB talking about how brutal Lion King was back in the day. It wasn't at all.

I guess it depends at what age you played the games. And want to bet what IGN/gamespot/whatever gaming stuff  will post next on facebook xD ?  ( hint it will contain the words Dark,  Souls)

I think it's really more to do with the "I Just Can't Wait to be King" level with the monkeys and the giraffes and hippos.  At least that's what I hear anyway.

Always preferred the platform focused style of Aladdin on the SNES despite critics praising the Mega Drive version more.

This is funny as hell for me.

Yesterday I finished Wonder boy the Dragons trap 100% and holy, this game is gooood, never got the chance to play the original but I loved this game ! And when I finished it I said to my brother, it would be extremely awesome if someday they did a remake/remaster like Wonder boy (with the old style - new style switch) for the old lion king game, pinocchio, aladdin, mickey mouse magical quest etc. because they were my childhood ! 😁
And well, look at that, dreams do come true, sometimes way faster than expected 😂

Super excited for the remasters! 🙌

Other than Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart I don't think there's a game I played more than Aladdin on the SNES. This would be a serious nostalgia trip for me if it is indeed the SNES version. Here's hoping they're available separately as I'm not fussed on playing the lion king

Edit : yeah this is a no buy, they have all variations of everything except the one I want. Shame

Firstly: Congrats on getting all the trophies on any of the Megaman Collections, let alone Legacy Collection 2 (some of the most difficult trophies ever devised).

Secondly: You got me fondly remembering renting new games every single friday after school from 1990 to probably early 2000 - usually with a free greesy personal pan pizza thanks to my overflowing Pizza Hut Book-it points I earned each week reading books! lol. I remember when video stores where all over the place where I lived, and part of the fun was checking in each week to see who got what new games in, and praying I was the first to check them out. :)

Every week was a game of roulette and you never knew what you'd be playing that weekend - your only guide you had to if a game was good or not, was the publisher stamp on the box, or the sagely advice of the grouchy middle aged dude at the counter. 99% of the time you judged whether or not you where gonna spend you're precious time (rental funds) by the cover art on the box (or in some stores: the logo on the cart).

Renting made me a better gamer because I only had 48 hours to beat any game I paid for. I think I must have rented every good NES and SNES game at one point - I even rented Aladdin and beat that in 1994. The best part about video stores was that you could rent consoles you didn't own: so I rented a Sega Genesis so much that I probably occured $150 worth of rental late fees over the years.

I also regularly rented a PlayStation in 1995-1997 until I finally got my own because they where so darn pricey and cutting edge - I probably could have bough a PlayStation with what I paid renting it and games over and over.

Renting let you try more games than you could ever afford, and allowed your tastes to grow. You could try games you planned on buying too - I miss that opportunity in a day and age where we don't even have demo hardily anymore. Honestly I really miss those days in general.

I'm hoping that you'll be able to play with the original graphics as I've a feeling they're gonna look like bad mobile phone games

Here's the trailer for the collection:

Seems like the SNES version of Aladdin won't be included in the collection.
