Capcom to announce new Resident Evil title ‘Project Resistance’

I agree, I don’t really have a probably with an action oriented Resident Evil game, I actually enjoyed ORC and 6 for what it was. But if it’s a multiplayer centric Dead by Daylight clone it might be the first game I skip in the franchise if it doesn’t offer at least an offline mode.

Though the tweet does mention team based “survival horror” rather than saying something like “PvP”.

At this point it's just PR babble and there's not much to extract from what they're saying, and I don't think 'survival horror' is much of any kind of guarantee from Capcom in the grand scheme of things, but going by the rumours and that trailer they seem to be hinting towards that kind of 4v1 format.

That being said, we'll all know for sure by the time TGS rolls around, so I'll wait till then to either get more pissed or be pleasantly surprised. Despite Capcom's hot streak, I'm still betting on this being something stupid to milk the brand.

That Teaser leaves a lot to be desired....

At the moment right now I'm seeing this as a milking of the series instead of something more interesting like the original outbreak. But that's just right now, we'll see what they show at TGS

They could have posted a teaser with only 10 seconds from inspiration of the outbreak trailer and it would have been much more well received, for me at least.

It depends on a lot of things how this is going to entice me or not.

If it's not more like outbreak and more like survive waves of tests by that 1 person.... Eh not gonna be that interested.

If it's your split up at first from the other 3 survivors and your trying to get out while the 1 person who's a tyrant is trying to track you down... Then I'm more interested.

If you all start off together... Eh. Less interested

Plenty of games like that already

From the trailer I can make a guess, that as Tyrant you can not only pursuit victims, but also create trap rooms for them. This is probably the whole game play. Doubt this will be Outbreak style co-op with puzzles and stories, different endings and scenarios. Well, there still Resident Evil 8 and Resident Evil 3 on the way, and this is another Umbrella corp. to exist.

Honestly, at this point I would accept a Killing Floor style game where instead of a player controlling the enemies, it would be random events. Say maybe a full round of lickers or maybe having to escort survivors. And the final round would be a random boss like a Tyrant model. G-Birkin, or just HUNK.

But I’m slowly accepting the fact it might be a PvP style game as a service type thing. Though I’m not sure if Japanese developers use that model.

Oof.

In all seriousness I commend Capcom for not being a 100% clone. But doesn’t look like it’s for me unfortunately.

Would it be a moot point hoping for an offline or survivor only game with a randomly generated “dungeon”?

Oh Capcom, you were doing so good so far with RE7 and RE2Remake

Way to break a winning streak with this Umbrella Corps 2.0

Let’s not be too hasty. Sure it wasn’t what anyone was expecting or wanted to be frank. But it does look a little more akin to multiplayer Saw than a reskin of DbD. Let’s look at any new different modes, if any, pricing, and gameplay features.

I feel like they are still experimenting with the RE Engine and are probably using this to test what it can do with multiplayer games which I'm fine with as long as they don't stick with MP focused stuff down the road. I mainly tell myself this though in the hopes that they make Dragon's Dogma 2 and make it look really pretty in the RE Engine and add a co-op feature to it.

That’s a good perspective testing the waters seems to be what Capcom has been doing with the engine. From VR to heavy action games could be what they are doing here.

Dragons Dogma though. The sleeper hit that Capcom can’t see has the greatest potential. Though I would have to disagree, while I hope they use the RE Engine. I want them to stick with the pawn system rather than an online mode. Good to see another fan though.

...whats with the red eyes.........

anyway thats nitpicking.

Cool premise, been done before in some ways. Was really hoping for more of an outbreak vibe but the timer kinda kills that.

It's as I feared, get through one stage that the "mastermind" sets up before the timer hits 0, and do another stage.

Oh well, if it doesn't sell well capcom will learn.

I'll be voting with my wallet, aka not buying. And they can focus that team on remaking RE3 and Code Veronica

Oh no I don't mean get rid of the Pawn system, but just have the option to have either another player or Pawns tag along. Either way would be fine for me really but I would think it would be really cool to travel around a big open world like that with a friend. But yeah, I figure that's only a matter of time since I'm sure they know lots of people want it and there was that thing where Itsuno said he had to choose between DMC5 or Dragon's Dogma 2 and went with DMC5 instead. I'm sure they are willing to use the RE Engine on a big open world like game eventually.

Oh I see. But I think making Dragons Dogma multiplayer ( up to 4? Can’t remember pawn limit) would change the core gameplay up a little too much for my taste. Though I will admit it would be rad. Another thing is that there is a Dragon’s Dogma MMO so you can get your multiplayer fix there. Plus if we do get an open world using RE Engine I don’t think they’d want to over complicate themselves with both a big open world and multiplayer at the same time.

I think we can all get the idea by the last two recent trailers from the last few days (if you haven't watch them please), that this appears to be one of those online 1v4 PvP/E games - like Fable Legends. Where one player acts as the enemy, and mans a control station, sending swarms of AI after a group of other players; setting traps, and then when things are at their worst: remotely commanding a Tyrant like Mister X or Nemesis. The game has other elements tied in like survival and card mechanics too.

This however DOES NOT appear to be another Outbreak game like some people originally hoped (this game is a different genre) - though certain elements do cross over from outbreak.

September Official Reveal Trailer (Sep 9th)

I'll be honest guys: I played Outbreak File 1 & 2 solo (and enjoyed it), and if this was another Outbreak I'd buy it; but this is clearly a 1v4 online game, and as a result I can't get hyped for it. I'm gonna no doubt skip it like I did Umbrella Corps. I don't do well with other players, and don't like playing with people - gaming is a solom solo thing for me to relax and unwind.

Don’t like telling people how to play games but you should really try to play Outbreak online. It’s where the game really shines in my opinion. This is also coming from a player who likes solo games.

I regretfully say that this series just needs to be ended after watching that horror.

Resident Evil 7 and 2 (Remake) are THE two best games I've played since they've been released. Even if others don't feel that strongly, I don't think many would feel that  a crappy spin-off, which I feel this is, negates the legacy series as a whole. If they continued releasing games like 6, I'd get your point, but Project Resistance matters very little in the grander scheme of RE's longevity.
