Skill based trophies that you gave up on

METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY (PS3)

46L324156.png

:gold: Virtually Impossible
Complete all VR and Alternative missions

There are 511 missions. I've completed most of them (more than 420, I think). Then got stuck on either PS1 Snake or Pliskin hold-up missions. The ones you have to do with M4. If you've played them, you know what I'm talking about. Snake aims if you press the :square: button very lightly, and shoots if you just press it in general. That's how the automatic guns work in this game. For so many tries I either shot people or didn't do the hold up properly. I beat like 2 of those missions, then gave up. Haven't played VR missions since then. Don't know if I'll ever come back to finish them.

There's so many tricks for those missions. One is to always have square semi pressed along with L1 for the whole duration of the mission and when you go up to an enemy, quickly press R2 to hold em up (opposite of what you've been doing so far). Once you find the spot where Snake raises the weapon you just don't take your finger off there and you're good. Pressing it with the middle of your thumb works too. Placing metal rings around the button so it can't be pushed in completely works too. Don't give up, get the plat or no balls ?

Well, I guess I'll have to try these strats now ?.

I HAD to give up on a game for the sake of my sanity.

I've played Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and failed:

22Sf5acb6.png Don't Think, Feel
You completed all of one character's challenges!

52S79ee6d.png

Adachi's Letter
You satiated your Hunger for Adachi's challenges.

56S822e0b.png

Old Bamboo Comb
I can't believe you beat all my challenges!

59S040b5c.png

Spiral Bookmark
You were more than a match for Margaret's challenges. My, my.

SO this is all about challenges. I am not able to complete a challenge over 15. Every character has between 25 and 30 challenges and they get more and more difficult. I completet all challenges of all characters until 12-14, but I am just not able to complete one character, which xould be my platinum, bc the other 3 trophies are DLC trophies...

It was about to drie me crazy so I had to give up it is so frustrating!

Super Meat boy.  I would never say I've given up forever but it will be a very long time before I go back there to attempt girl boy and impossible boy thats for sure.  I just reached that point that it was no fun and just pure annoyance, plus I may have snapped my vita/controller with my bare hands lol.

There has been a fair few games over the years I've given a wide berth for a good long time and then once returned with a fresh new approach it all just falls better and right, I think thats what we all need sometimes to keep our sanity.  With enough determination we can do it!  Just like that good old saying, The only failure is giving up!

I've never given up on something due to skill reasons. I'm not a trophy hunter so if I'm not enjoying myself then I certainly would move on but one thing I do enjoy is challenge and overcoming challenge so I can't forsee myself ever giving up on something skill-based.

I have however recently attempted a platinum for personal reasons (honoring a good friend of mine who died #FuckCancer). The game is PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and... the trophies are glitched, and I've been very tempted to walk away from it. I have 24 crossbow kills as of now yet still no trophy for getting 10. I have 35 grenade kills but nothing for getting 30. 300+ SMG/shotgun kills and nothing for 200... etc.

I'm approaching the 1,000 total kills (somewhere around 750) and I have a pretty strong suspicion that the 1,000 will also not unlock at 1,000.

If there was some kind of indication as to when I would unlock them I'd consider pushing on but the fact that I could literally get 5,000+ kills and still not obtain any of them is what puts me off, it's the endlessness of the grind just hoping that each kill is somehow miraculously the last one.

But whenever I start a challenging game, I do so mentally prepared. I know it's gonna take me a while to complete said game. I know I will experience (more likely than not) many setbacks. And I think that going in aware of those things, not expecting to be done soon and without putting in some time, often prevents frustration from building up.

This is the biggest factor I think in getting those hard trophies. I get more frustrated on the trophies I expect to get easily (Chocobo Rider in FFX) and less so on ones that I know will take me a while to master. As long as I feel like I am improving, I can go a very long time repeating without getting terribly frustrated (Hail to the King in FFIX). I spent almost a week straight on the jump rope trophy.I thought it was a garbage trophy, but I knew I wouldn't get it right away and little by little I felt like I was getting better. If you can get in the right frame of mind, any trophy is attainable with practice.

Catherine must of been pretty hectic. I've looked at gameplay videos and it doesn't look all that fun at all.

I really liked the puzzle aspect of Catherine, I just personally didn't like the story all that much. It was very satisfying to beat a level though. I had more trouble with the Babel levels and felt like giving up a few times. Oddly enough, I beat Axis Mundi and Obelisk a lot easier than Menhir. I got so close several times in Menhir and needed to take a break from it since it fell into the category of something I felt I should be able to beat. While stressful and a little frustrating with the sometimes 'sticky' controls...it was a little fun too.

Batman Arkham Knight. Stopped me getting platinum at the time. Any tips?

My best advice for this trophy is to cycle around your controller for the moves. Find a challenge map you feel comfortable in and just cycle through. I started every single time with a counter. I would stand still until the first guy approaches, counter then redirect/evade (:cross:+:cross:). Then punch and redirect/evade. Then throw a baterang and redirect/evade. Then explosive gel and redirect/evade. I'd cycle all the gadgets, redirecting/evading in between each try. When I was able to do a special move, I'd start with disarm and destroy (:square:+:triangle:) and then cycle around clockwise every time I got the combo counter yellow.  It's really hard to remember 15 moves if you don't do them one at a time and in some sort of order. If you just do them randomly, you'll most definitely miss one. Take advantage of the evade not breaking your combo/free flow and if you need a second to gather your thoughts or recalibrate, just evade/redirect until you're ready to move on. You should be able to get it pretty quickly once you establish an order you wish to tackle. I found clockwise around the controller was best for me, but maybe it'll be different for you. Good luck!

Personally, I never want to let a trophy beat me. It's probably an arrogance thing...I'm by no means an expert gamer, but I've been playing for a long, long time and I hate admitting I can't do something. For me, the last three Super Meat Boy trophies is testing my determination and has required a long break. I know I can get them eventually, but it'll be a long process. Once I wrap up Space Hulk, finishing SMB will be my next order of business on the Vita.

Beat Saber's No Mistakes trophy. You have to clear 15 songs on expert mode without missing a single note. I think I've successfully got the full combo on one song at this difficulty level. I'm just not fast enough. Although, its been a while since I've put on my VR helmet, I haven't truly given up on trying for this trophy, but I have given up hope on actually getting it.

I have recently boosted the online trophies for Earthworm Jim HD, and I remembered why I wouldn't 100% the game in the near future.

I really don´t know yet if I "gave up" on obtaining these two trophies, but maybe push them further away into the future.

10S80f53b.png

Earthworm Never Dies
Clear Single Player mode in Original difficulty in one sitting without losing a life

and

12Sd819e4.png Superhero!
Get through Single Player mode in Original difficulty in one sitting in under 50 minutes

I'm nowhere near the level of patience and (obviously) skill needed to tackle these two trophies, at least yet.

I struggle badly with the asteroids race levels, and I don´t even want to think how bad I´d perform on the level you have to protect Pete.

I've seen a video of a Russian dude obtaining the gold trophy, and makes it seem like a walk in the park.

But, as I said, I don´t have the patience, focus, nor the skill to do that right now.

Completing the game in less than 50 minutes though is on another level. I need to have jedi-like reflexes, button pressing must be on point (getting the whip-swinging is hard as hell for me) and know the routes that would take me less time to complete certain levels.

Gravity Rush Remastered - The flying challenges. I suck at them. The rest I'm pretty good at actually.

Mortal Kombat X - Fighting real people. ? Although I did Plat Tekken 7. But their trophies didn't have me beating 10 people in a row.

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round -  Combo and character moves. I suck at combos.

Batman: Arkham ---- -  I suck at combos. ?

inFamous First Light - Beta Rescue Diamond. I can never get enough points to pass this last one. I was close - once. ?

Goat Simulator - Well Flappy Goat takes no skill. It's a broken piece of poo.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - Score Attack. ? Good thing Shadow of the Tomb Raider did this better.

Also I suck at combos. ?

Metal Gear Solid 2's VR trophy mentioned above. I got through a good chunk of them but it became too annoying and frustrating- last mission I remember trying to clear was a gauntlet of enemies culminating with a  giant soldier who you could either kill or shoot a floating object to summon another giant soldier to fight him. I made it to this point several times but kept missing the UFO we'll call it to summon the other giant.

Dishonored's Dunwall City Trials.  I got the easiest trophies and said the heck with the luck and skill ones, life is too short and I have a big enough backlog- though I do want to finish Daud's dlc missions...

DEADBOLT

War - Five star every mission in the game. Some of the missions in the game are extremely tricky and downright difficult to five star, especially on the second chapter.

Death - Complete the game without dying or quitting. This tops the cake for the hardest trophy I have attempted. Ever. ? I've given up after 20 attempts, to the point I've been slowly pulling my hair. Not dying once is especially the most insane part, since you have to dodge enemies all the time. Worst of all, they'll guard that area when they spotted you viciously, until they find you and kill you.

Famine - Complete the game in 1 hour without quitting. Like Death, this is also starting to rip my hair out. You're against the clock. With some annoyingly difficult missions, it is going to be a trip to hell. You cannot quit the game for anything until the finale for this trophy.

These three "Four Horsemen" trophies (yep, they are named after the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse) are the ones that completely lock me to get its platinum (Conquest). It already drove me to insanity.

Well I got quite a few of them. I'm man enuff to admit defeat when something is beyond my skills. I got thru a few challenging trophies in my gaming years but if it starts to affect your health/daily function it's just not worth it, IMHO. It's better to have peace of mind.

S502a8f.png11S99c3b3.png

Elite Campaign Legend
Obtain a gold medal for every cell in the original Wipeout HD Race Campaign on Elite difficulty.

I just don't have the reflexes/skills for this game let alone dealing with the brutal AI.

S6a7bed.png55Sb2c8af.png56Sce7a1d.png59S34c5db.png

Boss Battle /Boss/Specialist
Enter the Mystery Portal and Defeat a Boss Hunt on Normal/Craaazy/Hard Difficulty.

Tried it on Normal with randoms. Didn't get anywhere. On top of that, Boss Hunt pretty much doesn't come around anymore.

S45fc98.png67S6ed569.png68S4d43a4.png

Crushing
Earn one or more stars on all Survival stages on the Crushing setting.

...It
Earn three stars on all Survival stages on the Crushing setting.

Just getting thru the Survival stages on lowest difficulty was a pain for me. Definitely not gonna bother on Crushing.

S686730.png77S75ab4d.png78Sb1961f.png

Elitist
GTA Online: Complete all 3 Elite Challenges in The Doomsday Heist.

Masterminds
GTA Online: Complete all 3 Criminal Mastermind challenges in The Doomsday Heist.

Yeah, no thanks. Truth be told haven't even done the Doomsday Heists but on regular heist I've almost always been the weakest link when played with non-randoms.

S30d602.png33S11de76.png

Pure Gold
Achieve a Gold skill rating.

I gotta admit I got pretty close to this one. But when you're only gaining 3-5 points per race and losing 30-50 when someone decides to take you out or the game bugs out it's soul crushing. Also I can't compete with the pros with wheels who are like 2 seconds faster per lap. Sometimes I can fight for podiums and I'm always finishing in the top half if everything goes smooth but that's just not enuff for this trophy.

Actually Codemasters changed up the system where I managed to get this one. :D

But yeah, without that it wasn't gonna happen.

Batman Arkham Asylum: Predator/Combat challanges.

I take my hat off to people who have the platinum to this game because damn, those predator and combat challanges are so hard to do with a 3 star (bat) rating, I couldn't even complete one without getting hit or losing a combo. After trying a few a couple times with a few of the chalanges and only achieving 1 star (bat) I knew there were no chance I could do them ?

Those Survival stages pissed me off. Basically this was another one of Naughty Dog’s multiplayer DLC that has you working hard to get something that probably less than 1 percent of players actually have.

You pretty much have to boost with a bunch of people from what I’ve heard. Some guys here already know how I feel about difficult multiplayer trophies. One good reason why I don’t have the 100 percent in Red Dead Redemption.

Those two Doomsday Heist trophies are Ultra Rare. I can’t blame you for giving up.

If those are a serious challenge to you, then RIP those Community Challenge DLC trophies in Batman: Arkham Knight, especially the one for getting a perfect free flow combo with FOUR characters in all four waves in the map.

I'm not saying I've given up on them, but... Well... Let's see.

10S2d2db9.png  Stormbringer (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance)
Complete story mode on Revengeance difficulty with all S rankings.

I'm putting this game off because I already know this is going to be brutal.

32Sef47fd.png  You Asked For It (The Evil Within)
Finish the game on 悪夢(AKUMU) mode.

On AKUMU, everything kills you in one hit. EVERYTHING. Not looking forward to this.

1S4075cb.png The Cursed! (Mamorukun Curse!)
Collect all trophies.

I chose the platinum trophy because, well... It's a bullet hell shooter. Any and every trophy is going to be a slog for someone like me.

21S246216.png

I Don't Think We Survived That Crash (Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters Daybreak: Special Gigs)
All 4 of you are near death. How did you make it?!

This is apparently a very obscure visual novel/turn-based strategy hybrid game. Its combat system is terrible. Just terrible. I'm genuinely thinking about giving it up simply because I can't be bothered with such a weird game.

Oh man, that trophy was a nightmare. lol The really annoying missions for me were the ones where you had to snipe enemies from afar without Pentazemin (I think there were only a couple of them, but still). Kojima's trolling at its finest.

From my experience every trophy is obtainable. Some may be very challenging but they’re all doable - and this is coming from an average gamer. I may not have skill but I have perseverance and patience, the harder I push myself the closer I get to victory...and then it just happens one day. I pop the trophy ☺️

I find taking a break from the game helps a lot. I can push myself for hours to obtain a trophy and it just doesn’t happen no matter what. I come back the next day and boom, I get it in one or two tries.

Any of the Overwatch trophies I don't have.  Special shout-out to Floor is Lava.  I clocked a lot of Lucio time trying for it.  I like to think I can return and try for any other game though.  But I haven't touched Overwatch in over a year, like right after Brigitte was released, and don't really plan on going back.

I've heard a great deal of people say those MGS1 Snake VR Missions are what's keeping a lot of them from the platinum.

I checked not too long ago and apparently you can play the VR missions, but I'd definitely play through the MGS2 story and getting the difficulty related trophies out of the way.

Bit surprised it's only a Very Rare platinum considering how many people said how hard this game is.

Weird how that works eh, I have the exact same thing. Maybe that only works for us averagely skilled players? More practice is not always better for me, that's for sure. It used to be the same when I was still a defrag player. I could spend nights on end trying to shave off a couple of milliseconds of my personal best, take a long break and suddenly be tenths faster. It's weird but a bit frustrating too at times :P

It can be frustrating, I’m thankful when I decide to take a break because sometimes I push myself too far and get nowhere. Coming back the next day, I feel refreshed and things go smoother. Don’t stress yourself like I do, it’s not worth it!
