Ultra Rare Cleanup 2020

It's been a very long time since I posted any kind of update. It's been a pretty good few months with a lot of fun games that I've played...only two of them fit the criteria for the event however. I have put my updated list below. It has morphed a tad as somethings I just won't get to and others I got to that I wasn't expecting. The new addition is Ash of Gods: Redemption and the other new completion is Enter the Gungeon.

 

AoG has an extremely low number of players so the rarity could fluctuate pretty quickly, however I doubt most people have the patience to finish it. It is a Banner Saga clone with enough differences to make it interesting. The controls are really wonky and take some getting used to. It's too bad they suck so bad because there is a pretty good game hidden behind the frustrating beginning. If you have the patience to figure out how the controls work and like a TBS style game, you will not be disappointed in what AoG has to offer. I played through it four times for the platinum and it was different enough each playthrough to make it feel like less of a chore.

 

Enter the Gungeon may be my favorite game of the year. I wasn't expecting much going into it and do not have any other rogue-lite or rogue-like games on my profile so really wasn't sure what to expect either. The game is challenging, it is clever and it is a lot of fun. The controls are very responsive and the only part of the game that felt like a chore was finishing up the 'hunt list' as you can't work on multiple enemies at once and it required me to play quite a ways past beating the game to finish the trophy list. Fortunately, the game is a lot of fun with a ton of replayability. It has made me want to add more rogue-style games in the future and I would recommend this game to anyone.

 

Running out of time to get to 10...but I'll see what I can do! Hollow Knight will be used for a milestone, so that one will definitely get done.

Of the three finished games... two were not that great... And one was an absolute blast! 

 

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition - I have already said everything I wanted to say about Injustice. Fuck this game. Worst piece of garbage on my profile.  

 

Trine 2: Complete Story - This one was not THAT bad, but having played the first Trine very recently, and given that the levels in this one are really long, filled with an insane amount of collectibles, it got a bit boring. Especially since I had to do Hard / Hardcore solo, as clearing a level in that mode would only count for the host. 

 

Nex Machina - I waited a bit too long to do this game... It is a fantastic, fast-paced twin-stick shooter that I can recommend without thinking twice. Really fun gameplay! There is not too much content here, but the plat will still take around 30 hours, so it's worth the price tag

Not sure when the last update was from me as I haven't exactly been proactive with this list lately BUT I have no got the plat on Mortal Kombat X which is one I am happy with as fighters are not really my thing in the most part!!

Time to add 2 more games to the list which i currently play

 

Welcome to Red Dead Redemption. No introduction needed, everyone has played this one. I'm rather late to the party i know   started this in November 2012 and just played a few missions. 3 years later i decided to play again but mp only to get all mp trophies. And now just two days ago i started sp again and nearly finished the story i do have the GOTY edition so i plan on getting all trophies within the next days or weeks...

 

Also dug out an action game of the special type: in Hoard you are a dragon who burns down villages, knights, thieves and steals princesses cool thing for a few matches but can't play too much at one day but i made really good progess as i good one of the hardest trophies already. The game has 107 badges and i unlocked 90% of them. Only thing left is complete more levels to get xp to increase my rank from 9 to 15

Overwatch - Now this platinum/100% was on the "extra challenge" list for me. I will be honest, I never expected to do it. Once I finished doing all the reasonable characters and got stuck at the utterly bullshit ones (Doomfist, Orisa, Baptiste etc) I decided fuck it, boosting time. Surprisingly there's alot of people eager to give a hand and go themselves after the trophies. So yeah, cleared up all the ugly characters and done!

All I have to say...big respects for who did the list legit. This game is easily 10/10 if you decide to do it with randoms.

 

The King of Fighters XIII - I had lots of energy with this game, it's astonishingly good. Managed to knock off a tough trophy (doing all 10 trials for one character) and all the online for this game. Regarding the online...just for kicks, I connected both of my PS3 to the router via LAN cable and turned off all the other wireless devices for 2 minutes, just to check. I have to mention that I have Gigabyte internet through optical fiber. The game STILL LAGGED LIKE SHIT!

I do actually believe that SNK has servers based on potatoes

Limbo - this was an easy 100% and I enjoyed it a lot.

Unravel Two - definitely a lot more challenging compared to the first game. The only hard trophy is "Roof Runner", but with a bit of practice, very doable.

Call of Duty: WWII - my first Zombies experience and it was a lot better than I expected. If you can build a team of 4 trophy hunters, go for it!

 

It's been a while since I did an update so here it is:

 

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - At last, I have finished U4 survival trophies and got a fairly rare 100% completion.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Second CoD game with Mori, Koro and BaBy-Bakker. I'm glad it's over, EXO Zombies did not age well.

Rocket League - 100% rarer than U4? Sure, I'll take it. Also a great game to play with friends!

Got another title finished yeah Hoard was ok, felt hard to get 90% of the badges at first but after a few hours i felt comfortable with the game. The real pain was grinding to rank 15. I let the game run for nearly 20 hours over the last days to accumulate enough points with my dragon sitting in one corner of one map and me waiting for 2 mins to pass mostly ? NOT FUN.

 

I made a bit progress in RDR too. Finished all main missions and a few side missions played a bit poker, blackjack and liar's dice. Skinned a few animals but still got a long way to go but since i'm finished with Hoard and nearly with Back to the Future (which i play on PS4 while Hoard on PS3) i'm diving more into RDR soon again... it's gonna get so close for the 10 UR this year ?

Black Ops 2 I just need to prestige (I know.....I still never prestiged even once but was fortunate enough to get big leagues whenever the game first came out)

 

Kane & Lynch need to do some online trophies and finish the game on Extreme

 

Goldeneye Reloaded I was able to get all the MP trophies completed before servers were shutdown.

 

Metal Gear Solid 2 I started the game back in like 2012 and just never got back into it.

 

Hopefully I can finish LBP1 within the next couple days and start working on the rest!

It has been a while but here are all the ultra rare platinums I managed to earn this year so far. By far the most challenging but rewarding was Audica. I recently got a PSVR during the pandemic to try and get some exercise in and initially I started with Beat Saber which is a fantastic game and one that gets very physically intensive at harder difficulties. Audica was not nearly as physically exhausting but getting that platinum was a 4 month journey that broke me several times over. I am so happy to be a part of that platinum club!

Mirror's Edge - Started this game after 4 years of break, had to restart it from 0 because hell if I remember how it was played. I have lots of fun with it but DAMN I suck at this. It's a platformer of course so obviously it will be one of my main weaknesses. It shall be conquered nonetheless! I am really sorry for Faith, I have fallen off the ledges with her so many times, she must hate me by now.

The King of Fighters XIII - surprisingly I kinda blasted through this game without too much opposition. The survival mode was hands down the most annoying part so far (because SNK and bullshit AI), but after some cheesy earth slapping with Goro Daimon the AI went down like no tomorrow. All that's left is Time Attack with 30 characters (well 27), 200 trials completed :> and Story mode. I think I will leave this one for a milestone. 

Also I think I am in love with the franchise just from one game. Damn they made this game good. Such crazy combos and flashy stuff, I love it!

 

I don't think I will manage to finish this list by the end of the year (plus I wanna add 2 Blazblue games also), so I guess this will go in 2021. I wish to restart the event in 2021 if nobody minds (unless the OP comes by a miracle and does the magic himself  ).

So i did play a lot of RDR in the last weeks and i'm very close to get the . I have reached 100% SP progress and all i miss now are some kills with mounted weapons and to slap somebody in every saloon ... i did get the challenge trophies for the explosive rifle and the tomahawk and after that i started the Undead Nightmare DLC. i read it's a bit easier to get the 500 mounted kills trophy in this dlc and i want all dlc trophies before the but it shouldn't take long now to finish this game...

 

I'm down for another year to share some thoughts of our journey down this path even if no one else would join besides us @Copanele

But after all these fighting Games i need a small Rest, i think i will be playing 1 or 2 Singlerplayer Games, before i will be continue with the Main Games.

Maybe i will start The Evil Within 1, but after that comes far Cry 2.

I've also started with my Full Arm Tattoo sleeve and continue this week, so there will be a few Days off.

Well, some time has passed since my last post and just a few things happened, but at least there is one thing I can say about the last few months: 

 

Fuck you The Evil Within 1 ..

 

This is probably the first game that almost broke me mentally.

 

The game has such a bad performance, the FPS sometimes drop extremely, the POV is the stupidest I have ever seen, the story is nothing special, the loading times are far too long after each death, overall the gameplay is not difficult on Akumu but it's extremely tedious and I just don't enjoy it.

 

The game took almost all of my motivation away, it is more exhausting for me to play this game than Super Meat Boy. I hope I can somehow get through my last round + all DLCs and then I can finally tick it off and play through the second part, luckily with cheats this time.

 

Respect to @Bizzy_Montana_ for being the first in the world, who earned the Platin in all 7 stacks!

 

 

Since I haven't played that much, my list hasn't changed that much and i had some time to do other stuff like watching over 30 movies in October, getting 5 new tattoos and spent even more money on new games and films. ^^

 

I also only started a few new games, either for reasons of nostalgia like Kingdom Hearts 2, THPS2, or just for Fun like Nuclear Throne.

 

But one game I would like add to my bonus round is:

 

I AM BREAD

 

Fortunately, I've already finished and prepared it in the last days.

The game is definitely not easy and you need to get used to the controls at first.

 

The cheese level in the garden was, as many said before, the hardest level for me aswell, which took me way to many attempts, because I choked in the last part way too often. ^^

 

Here is my run from the hardest level, the run felt like my worst and at the end I was super nervous, as with over 10 attempts before, almost didn't get the last piece of cheese, but somehow I finished it with 1 Second left.^^

I would be all in favor of having a similar event for 2021, I really enjoyed keeping track of my UR games and reading what other players were struggling with or actually overcame. 

 

What would you guys think, should we keep it as open (in terms of actual rules) as it was this year and use the event simply as additional motivation, or should we put some guidelines in place for the next edition? I'm thinking stuff that we already discussed, such as games having to at least have 1 UR trophy and so on... Curious what you all think

For that specific instance with UR 100% without UR trophies, I was thinking instead having either 1 UR trophy (Rare platinum, <5% 100%, 1 UR DLC trophy obviously) OR have the entire 100% under 1% percentage. I mean, both of these instances would qualify.

 

Concrete example : Batman Arkham Knight  - it has no UR trophies but the actual 100% completion is 0.76%. I'd say it fits under the event (of course that's my opinion, you tell me if you agree )

 

Also I was thinking of a special"Hall of fame" for those mad lads who go after Crypt of the Necrodancer, Super Meat Boy and so on.

Yeah so the Batman example... The problem is that both quantities, the rarity of the DLC trophies and the 100% completion, are computed using different numbers... 

• DLC Trophy rarity: Geometric mean using owners of base game and owners of DLC (i.e estimated by the number of players that got at least one DLC trophy)
• 100% Completion: Just uses the number of game owners. 

 

So the argument in favor of counting Batman would be that the DLC trophy rarities don't make sense on this site, and I would agree. 

 

However, the argument against counting Batman is that playing that game and getting it to 100% doesn't add any UR trophy to your trophy collection ?

Math is my worst enemy so...ok  I see your point also. I am all for UR only event no problem (in the end, it's in the title), we'll draft the rules in these 2 months.

 

And yeah, work for that Hall of Fame! I would honestly put more games there, but I have no idea which ones are an absolute 10/10 in terms of difficulty other than Crypt, SMB and...maybe Trackmania? I will need a helping hand here.

Some sort of rankings would be nice, and somewhat more stricter rules too. This 'event' is just a tally of UR stuff people have done throughout the year with people adding stuff to their list after finishing it or nearly finishing it and so on. That's fine of course, but I'd rather the rules be stricter if any sort of rankings etc will be involved. If things are as loose as they have been currently I probably wouldn't join next year as I didn't gain any sort of motivation to do the games on my list here this time, they didn't feel relevant since people were regularly adding and removing stuff from their own lists.

On the note of next year and some potential rules, I'd like to also bring up the point of non-plats that lack UR trophies but have a UR 100% on the base game and no DLC.  To give an example: https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/74-zuma/

 

Personally, I think games like this should count.  There isn't any DLC bringing down that 100% rarity, that's just the rarity for the base game.  Yes, it doesn't add any UR trophies, but if it had a plat said plat would be UR with that 100% rarity.

That is absolutely understandable. The problem for me personally is that I don't purchase too many games in advance, and thus it is difficult for me to know what I will be playing throughout an entire year. I think I own like 10 games that I haven't played yet ?

 

But I would still like to keep the event going for an entire year... So what we could do is to have four checkpoints throughout the year, and a certain number of games needs to be committed at each of the checkpoints. Removing games is then no longer possible, and you can only commit games for the next stretch that haven't been started yet... 

 

Or, you know, something along these lines ?

But if the majority is in favor, we could also just disregard trophy rarities altogether and instead just allow games that have a UR platinum / 100% rarity. I think DLC trophy rarities are meaningless here anyways, so that would also solve that issue.
