I've really not been at it this year. I've been struggling with mental health problems all year and it's really killed my motivation. Things have picked up since I got through Dark Souls and I performed better than I expected, I bought a few quick indy games too, as a means of keeping up the habit, so I'm hoping I can add a few more platinums before the end of the year so it doesn't look too disastrous when I look back on it

Wildly inconsistent to say to least. Picked up my first platinum when I was 13 years old and have been into trophies ever since. I earned a total of 69 trophies between 31/03/13 - 31/03/15, easily the longest period of my life when my time spent gaming was essentially non-existent. Before the end of 2017 I was strictly physical games only due to my age and only ever picking up games by trading in previously completed ones. I picked up a PS4 Pro during the Black Friday sales of 2017 and it wasn't long before I discovered the very frequent and all too appealing sales on the PS Store - hence the inflated numbers over the past 2 years. PS Now contributed to quite a few games as well. It was very much "quantity over quality" for a while but I think I'm over that now.

In the beginning, I thought of Platinums as distinguished badges to be earned on only the games I really enjoyed or wanted to play as much as possible before moving on. 2017 was an extremely rough and demanding year for me, and when I turned to gaming as my primary means of escape, trophy hunting became quite the hobby and I went wild with it. I tried in 2018 to reign it in, but I let myself get the best of me towards the end of the summer a little bit. The wide gap between 2014 and 2016 was due primarily to me holding out on picking up a PS4, playing my Wii U quite a bit, and simply not feeling up to the grinds or challenges necessary to earn the Platinum for the PS3 games I was playing during that span of time.

With the coming of a new gen next year, I'm sincerely hoping to fall back into my Platinum-earning philosophy from last gen. Only pick up games that I truly care to play for the pure joy of it, earn a few Platinums along the way because I want to (not due to any sense of obligation).
