Bonus: My brother still believed in Santa.  So my dad dressed up as Santa to put presents under the tree on Christmas Eve.  After a couple of drinks, he dressed up, placed the presents and was eating the cookies my brother had put out for the reindeer when our dog saw him.  Being not the smartest dog on the block, he attacked my dad, knocked him over into the Christmas tree, crushing the presents.  The commotion woke us up, and as we all ran to the living room, my brother in the lead (Santa!), as the dog made one last lunge for my dad, Santa pissed his pants.  One memory I still can't forget, unfortunately.

The most important things in life are the moments that make it special. That some happen during Christmas time even better, as usually it's a time for sharing with the people you probably love most.

My favorite Christmas memory is when I got my PS4. We were on vacations on Christmas Eve and a friend gave me Uncharted 4, I didn't had a PS4, atleast I thought I didn't. I thanked for the gift and we kept exchanging gifts. 

 

At the end of my vacations, 2 days later, when I arrived to my house and went to my room I saw a brand new PS4 just laying on my bed. I felt like a kid again. My friends and family had planned this and were able to hide it so well. I'm so thankful to have them in my life

My favorite Christmas memory happened this evening when my 4-month old son sat on his granddaddy’s knee, who was dressed as Santa Claus, and giggled his little head off for what seemed like an eternity. It was beautiful.

The boring parts first, before we get to the results you’re all waiting for:

 

First off, thanks to all 49 of you who entered the contest. As a host, I wanted to have a successful and enjoyable event, and I’m glad each of you participated! I hope you all had fun playing and sharing your Christmas memories. This is my first time hosting an event, so I’d like to thank @Beyondthegrave07 and my judges for their help too. I had some good conversations with a few of you, and I also enjoyed seeing all the answers. I’ll share my own favorite Christmas memory, which is giving Christmas gifts to my daughter when she was about six years old, and seeing her scream in excitement for about 5 minutes as she got a specific gift.

 

As far as the results and scoring, I’d like everyone to know I tried to be as lenient as possible, accept as many answers as possible, and make this as fun as I could for everyone. I encountered many unimagined issues, so this has definitely been a learning experience for me. I definitely got some wild and unexpected answers, and if I’m brave enough to ever try this again, I know what changes I’ll be making I’ll need. To the few people that had rejected answers, apologies in advance, and I’ll let you know that even if you had scored a 1, it wouldn’t have affected the final results (at least for first place). 

 

Originally, I was going to do 12 questions (for the 12 days of Christmas) but I found myself having a difficult time getting 12 good questions, and I didn’t want things to be too long or hard. Ultimately, I decided on 7 questions instead, two easy difficulty (#1 and #5), three moderate difficulty (#2, #3, #4), one hard difficulty (#6) and one randomizer (#7). With that said…

Again, nothing too unexpected here. A few of these were surprise answers when I got them, and I learned something. Despite playing Dead Nation and Resogun multiple times, I never realized there was a Santa zombie and Block Santa. I did have to check Scribblenauts to make sure Santa was officially in the game, and not just created. After getting a few “Animal Santas” I decided to allow these answers since I didn’t originally specify it had to be human.

This one was interesting, and the journey was a wild ride… I got quite a few inquiries about the train. I was asked if other forms trains that aren't necessarily a locomotive train (such as a line of camels, or a cable train) would be acceptable. I had to update the wording of the question without giving away hints publicly or directly answering. I was particular impressed with the Resident Evil Collections answer, as that’s the inside of a train vs the outside. Also, who knew that Railfan, some old PS3 game without trophies would be so popular? I thought Train Sim World would lead the pack. However, regarding Railfan, some of you responded with simply “Railfan” and there’s actually two versions. As an incomplete answer, we scored those as if they were added to the more popular answer, instead of giving max points. Metro Exodus was not accepted, the judges saw train tracks but no train. Frostpunk was also not accepted, so if that’s a train its not very obvious. Sorry! 

 

Question 4 : Trophy Image with a snowman?

 

Part of the magic of Christmas is the season and month that go with it. Something about White Christmas’s are magical. Making snowmen is good fun too.

This question was another controversial one for us. There was a specific image that was identified when the wording for what qualified as a snowman was decided. Unfortunately, we didn’t think about valid answers that would suddenly become invalid because of the wording. Snowman (Drowning) was initially marked invalid, but overruled by my judges since the nose could be behind the blade of grass, a lot of people picked it, and it’s clearly a snowman named Snowman. Also of note, since this was about an image, and not a game, “Break the Dan” vs “You can Break a Snow Dan” having the same image was briefly debated, but decided to be scored separate. Finally, a few of you answered with a game (instead of a trophy image) but we were nice and knew what you meant so picked the image from the game. Also, I’m glad at least one female picked Snow Woman.

 

Question 5 : Game with an event in December?

 

Hopefully this contest will be an event you remember having fun with. This was another easy question before the really hard one.

It wasn’t too unexpected to get so many unique answers. There were a few hiccups though. Final Fantasy 11 is not a native PS3 game, but rather a PS2 game that worked on the original Fat PS3 under emulation. Elder Scrolls Online is an acceptable answer, but Permafox used it in question 1, so got maximum points, violating one of the listed rules (no duplicate answers). BB-BakkerJ got two points for ElderScrolls online, since it was picked twice. SportsFriends was highly debated, since the “event” is a trophy that’s earned for playing on December 25th, but the date can be changed to earn the trophy, but ultimately marked valid.

 

Question 6 : Game with the word “Music”?

 

Do you enjoy Christmas music? Singing Christmas carols? My favorite Christmas song is The 12 Pains of Christmas. And this question was painful for a lot of people.

Brutal. First off, sorry to Han the Dragon, but the question was for the word Music to be spelled out. This wasn’t about unscrambling / combining letters within a title to form music, but rather Music specifically being spelled out as a word directly. It was hard to word the question without giving away the "Disney Sing It..." answer. Anyway, the three top answers in PSNP's search results were expected. Some of you found the mislabeled game in PSNP, Jam Live Music Arcade which is only titled Jam (tsk tsk, @BlindMango) here. Four of you found "Disney Sing It… a game without trophies. Eta no-prince is a translation of some Japanese game, so is covered by the ‘region’ rule. I don’t know how "Frederic Resurrection of Music" was discovered from the abyss of the internet, and even though I found about 6 other games with Music that nobody picked, that wasn’t one of them. 

 

Question 7 : Name a random staff member?

 

People have different experiences with mods. Some are upset with Sly and this site. Regarding moderators, some people feel oppressed by warning points, while others get relief. Some people love helping CRT members with flags, while others curse us. The Guide team is usually helpful, but some people feel burdened by the super high quality standard and give up. Either way, we’re naughty or nice!

Alright - I can sort of see it now. Thought those were overturned buses or cars and they're covered with snow so it's pretty hard to tell.  I've updated your score.  The parenthesis next to anyone's name is the final score they would have had, if they had gotten the best possible score for any invalid answers. Since we had 49 participants, just one shy from the 50 for the extra cash threshold, I'll do something a little extra. I'll give out two smaller PSN codes to 2nd place @DoctorDrPepper ($20 or $25 depending on what the store has, I can never remember) and a $10 PSN to last place @pokwey. The random drawing for $10 will happen after @Beyondthegrave07 spins his random wheel for people beating him.
