Grounded. The way it has to be played.

I ve gone through the game a couple times to get Grounded related trophies, and I really enjoyed. A few supplies, the bow as main weapon, and being pattience with stealth. A completely different game on that mode.

My only issue with this mode is the single checkpoint you get before doing the Lab without a single fail. Other than that, it's a very good and fun difficulty.

The best difficulty mode and experience is either Hard or Survivors. Grounded heightens some of the game's default core issues with its stealth system. Grounded is mostly fanservice for players who want a higher stealth challenge.

I'd say Survivor is the way it has to be played. Minimal supplies and emphasis on hit and run stealth tactics. I found myself connecting with Ellie more on a gameplay level with her giving me supplies. She'll occasionally give you a health kit or ammo if you're low. I remember the exchange well.

Me: I only have two bullets left in my revolver.

Ellie: Here, I found this; Gives 13 shotgun shells.

Me: Where the hell did you find these? Where haven't I been looking?

 

You wouldn't find yourself in situations like that on lower difficulties.

 

Grounded mode removes that mechanic, and removes the potential of an experience like that. I consider that a bit odlf a negative, so I reckon it's absolutely only for those who want more of a challenge.

I would say either Survivor or Grounded.

They both have pros and cons but I do really enjoy the no HUD aspect of Grounded. I also play VERY aggressive and it's just so fun when you enter flowstate and just destroy every enemy in front of you and not missing shots. 

 

I also like to speed run grounded mode by avoiding as many enemies as possible but either way, you're gonna have a blast.

 

One of my favourite games of all time. Multiplayer is just as good too.
