How do you set up a 2 player game?

i set up a guest account for a friend but the only button that seems to work on the second controller is the facebutton which opens up the game's menu. no matter how many credits I put in, it won't let them enter the game...

option setting > controller > triangle button (control assignment)

I had this same problem and was totally confused for longer than I would like to admit, trying multiple controllers, etc.

 

What a bizzare way to setup a two player game, if the game prompts player 2 to press start at character select screen and/or in-game, I expect all you should have to do and turn on a 2nd controller and hit start, not go into a menu and pre-select controller assignments first. I don't recall any of the the other M2 releases doing this.

 

I eventually figured it out and it is done exactly how jtjunnior_ says above...still very weird.
