Should I play Trails in the Sky before Trails of Cold Steel?

Recommended Posts

Trails of Cold Steel I is standalone, but you should definitely play the Sky and also Zero and Azure before playing II and especially III

Like it's all recapped in an opening cutscene?

There's a section in the menu called "Substory" where you can read about the stuff that happened in previous games.

Would recommend playing the games, tho. The recap is just surface level.

I don't like the chibi art style of the Sky games. Maybe I'll get over it.

Wait a second, it looks like the Trails in the Sky games are only on PC in the West. They never got a Western release on consoles.

Actually if you want a better experience with CS lll, you should play Sky l and ll but most important Crossbel games as well. You can play only Sky l and ll if you want, the story is very nice and the evo version (japanese) is great with full voice. But with CS l and ll, you don't really need play Sky since both has different story and characters, but the worldbuilding of kiseki games is very complex and big. The Steam version is a good choice, I played Sky l and ll on PSP (Which is harder than Steam version and vita version).

I will play first Zero and Ao before move to CS lll, but Zero and Ao are only available in japanese like Trails in the sky on vita, so you can choose either, steam version or if you have a PSP play both games on PSP.

Yeah, and Zero/Azure aren't even officialy in English. Gotta get over that barrier.

Or just go straight to Cold Steel if you have no other means. 3 is pretty heavy with the reference to older games, tho.

If you have a psp, that's great. You can (patch your officially brought copies of Zero and Azure) with a fan translation.

Not the best, but does the job.
