3.5.0 Mid-Chapter (Upcoming Features and Changes)

Recommended Posts

A new year, a new update filled of features, changes and balances, for the best or the worse. The upcoming Mid-Chapter update (version 3.5.0) just rolled out today in the PTB on Steam, and we usually expect it to go live on all platforms the next two weeks.

Here below are the highlighted changes and features, more details can be seen in the PTB patch notes. They’re still subject to be tweaked or reverted when the patch goes live.

Archives - Tome II: Reckoning

The first Rift in the Archives is now closed, and the next Rift will open alongside the update with more challenges, lore and limited timed cosmetics to unlock! The next Tome titled ‘Reckoning’ will focus on David King, Jane Romero, the Doctor and the Spirit. The Tome I challenges and lore pieces will still be accessible to complete via a Compendium, but the Rift cosmetics linked to Tome I are no more obtainable.

The Doctor’s Power Rework

As many knows, the Doctor is one of the most annoying killers to face against, since he can use his Shock Therapy ability infinitely and spam it on the survivors until they become Madness Tier 3, plus preventing them constantly to do any action while shocked, if the killer wants to. This leads to abusive use of his power, making it not even fun to play against. The upcoming chances are as follow:

  • The Static Field (that passively increases madness within his terror radius) and the Treatment Mode are removed.
  • The Doctor keeps his Shock Therapy ability and won’t need to switch between Treatment Mode and his weapon. His base range is increased by 10%. However, Shock Therapy has now a short seconds cooldown between the moment you throw the Shock and that you draw your weapon.
  • He gets a secondary new ability called ‘Static Blast’. His new power is now activated by holding the Active Ability button. Charging his power produces a blast of therapy shock within his entire terror radius. Any survivor within his terror radius the moment of the blast gets their Madness increased.
  • Each use of the ‘Static Blast’ power has a long cooldown.
  • Additionally, any failed skill-check during the ‘Snap Out Of It’ action (Madness 3 tiered down to 2) instead regresses the action’s progress to 25% instead of resetting it entirely. Stopping the action won’t reset its progress as well. Fully performing the action will revert the madness back to 1.
  • Add-ons will be adjusted to go along the ability changes.
  • He gets his own chase music!

Hex: Ruin Perk Change

The perk Hex: Ruin is one of the most popular killer perks but unfortunately can be very annoying to play against. The issues are that the apparition of the skill-check is inconsistant, new players don’t help veterans by not hitting the great skill-checks, and it requires little effort or risk from the killer to put pressure on the survivors.

In the upcoming update, Hex: Ruin doesn’t affect skill-checks anymore. All gens are affected and the perk passively regresses generators that aren’t being worked on. Generators regresses at 100 / 150 / 200 % times than the normal regression rate. As before, the effect persists as long the related Hex totem is still standing.

Gatekeeper Emblem Change

Along with the Hex: Ruin perk change, the conditions to get the Iridescent quality of the killer’s Gatekeeper emblem is getting simpler to achieve. Before, the emblem highly rewards for holding the most of generators unrepaired and for the longest time as possible, and additional points were given for remaining incomplete generators at the end of the match. Therefore, Hex: Ruin was an ideal perk for ranking up in higher ranks and to double pip. The new condition to score in Gatekeeper emblem is as follow:

  • One point is scored per generator remained to be repaired per minute for the first 9 minutes. If both Exit Gates remained closed at the end of the trial, additional points are scored.

Lery’s Memorial Institute Remake

Along with the Doctor’s changes, the Lery’s Memorial Institute map (the Hospital map one) gets a rework. The layout, ambiance and feel of the map have been changed.

Would the Mad House trophy be harder to get with the new Doctor?

I don’t think so. You can still use his classic Shock Therapy but with a few seconds cooldown. Without mentioning that his new power ‘Static Blast” will give a good amount of madness, but has 60 seconds cooldown. Just keep chasing and shocking them until they’re madness 3, then move on to the next survivor.
