rogero_86
On February 12th 2020 Activision announced that the online portion/ multiplayer of this game (and some others) will be discontinued. Online trophies will become unattainable. When exactly this will happen is still unclear though. https://support.activision.com/articles/legacy-activision-games

Lord_Bane999
Yeah several games on this list have already been confirmed to have had their servers turned off already with that notice's posting. It's most likely Wolfenstein is already shut off too.

I also found another MP match from a random guy via 'quick match' option/ 'find game' server browser. With 2 players in it. The game did let me join that normally. Enough said, we don‘t know how long the MP will still be up... So whoever wants the online trophies done should do them ASAP.
TOAST13TOA5T
That being said, if you dont have it started I wouldn't bother starting it for the sake of it. Many problems outweigh the trophies and you could be one of the ones that dont get your stats tracked and end up with the game unfinishable on your profile. Just something to think on as I know theres people out there that will think its somehow good to start it now.

pinkrobot_pb
Oblivious of the consequences or potential problems I started the MP for this game last week and I had no problems whatsoever. Very happy to have these done.
Lord_Bane999
Btw on the flip side with Wolfenstein not being technically Activision's IP has anyone tried contacting ID or Bethesda to see if they are gonna carry the server themselves?

pinkrobot_pb
From what I gathered there are not even any servers to shut down because the game is peer to peer. There is some matchmaking service running somewhere so that when you start a lobby, other people can find you. And on a server somewhere, stats are stored and updated. I used to run stuff like that on my home connection 'for free' without a problem, but if you put it in a data center somewhere it will probably cost about 5$ a month max. The biggest danger in my opinion is that if the servers that provide these simple services crash they might never come back online. Which is most likely what happened to the other games that disappeared without a trace. That goes for many old PS3 games now, so the only logical advice about those is: do them now and take the risks for granted but do not do them at all if you care a lot about your 100% profile. I don't really get this mentality, while on one hand you're correct that there was plenty of time to get the game and play / finish it, it really doesn't account for the real world or the fact that some people might not even know about the game's existence. Plus acting like the servers going down is nothing since you've done it is plain stupid in my opinion, but hey, you do you. To get back on topic, I do hope the game will stay playable a while longer since server maintenance and upkeep costs are pennies for the company... altough we're talking about Activision here, so no surprise that they want to can it. Any idea how long the MP takes if you self boost using a second console? I've heard that everything requires just 2 players anyway.

There is another important point in my opinion. I try to stress this every time I get the chance, so bear with me. Gaming is set to become the biggest form of entertainment worldwide, but gaming companies themselves seem to have very little interest in preserving all the content that they produce. So when they shut down game servers, do not just think about the trophies you will not be able to get anymore, but think about all of the cultural heritage we lose as well. A lot of content is not available anymore after a server shutdown. Sometimes games that are online-only can not even be played at all anymore. That's just terrible. Luckily I can still show my potential kids the games I grew up with, like Doom. But what if your favourite game now is Fortnite? There will be a point where that game is shut down and can not be played anymore in any shape or form. All you can do is go on YouTube if that is still around by then and show them gameplay footage. They will probably cry out "for fuck's sake grandpa, was this 4k footage filmed with a potato?". In my opinion there should be a LAN mode or some peer to peer fallback system for every game that has an online component. If you could use that to also unlock trophies, that would be a great bonus. Make the XP grind take three times as long on LAN so people will prefer to play online anyway, I don't care. But please gaming industry, if you care about your games now, then care about them in the future as well.
