Maybe use an additional source, like https://www.polygon.com/2017/3/23/15039978/yooka-laylee-jontron-removed-playtonic ?

As this OAN person leaves out the context of the controversy, and purposely uses buzzwords like "mainstream media". I didn't know really anything about the controversey until looking it up just now, but Steve King is a white nationalist. It's not even really debatable, but that's neither here or there. Would just be better to have a better source (imo) than this Angry Gamer person. :/

I added another article as a source that goes into context a bit more and I've included the "controversial" video too so people can make up their own minds.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. The Yu-Gi-Oh! games you mentioned the other day have also been added to the list.

If you read between the lines of this interview, we can expect to see extensive dialogue censorship in the FF7 Remake :(: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/final-fantasy-7-remakes-dialogue-was-basically-rew/1100-6475161/

EDIT 1: The JP version of Persona 5: Royal was censored as well so it looks like the only uncensored release will be the Asia English version :(:

EDIT 2: Idea Factory have confirmed that the PC and PS4 versions of Death End ReQuest 2 will be censored in the west :(:

EDIT 3: The latest Borderlands 3 DLC has just been banned in Saudi Arabia, presumably because the whole thing is about Sir Hammerlock marrying his boyfriend. This tweet is about the PC version but you can guarantee that the console versions are also affected:

Looking at this article and it seems like we can expect to see some heavy censorship of the battle system going from FF7 to the FF7 Remake. :(https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/2/21157853/final-fantasy-7-remake-gameplay-demo-battle-system-combat-impressions

It is a remake and not a remaster I suppose, so we cant be too surprised.

Also your avatar is adorable. ?

From what i could gather, the German version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is still censored in that territory like it was in the original, giving you a game over in the "No Russian" level if you shoot any of the civilians. I've added it to the list, but if anyone can find any footage of the game over after doing that, I would appreciate it if you linked it.

There's a glimmer of hope for Death End ReQuest 2, because it looks like the PC version might be uncensored: https://www.iffysonlinestore.com/blog/death-end-request-2-glitch-costumes-survey/

I'll keep my eye on this. If they decide to make the original costumes available in the PC version, I'll add it as an alternative.

So, Jill’s “classic” outfit in Resi 3 remake is nothing of the kind. Miniskirts are no longer allowed, so she’s been given a pair of boys shorts to go with her man face

https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2020/04/resident-evil-3-remake-censors-jills-classic-outfit-by-turning-mini-skirt-into-skort/106610/

Even worse, they told people stupid enough to pre-order that they’d get the classic outfit as an incentive, but have clearly lied. Their disdain for customers is astounding.

That's a shame. Even with her new outfit redesigned to be more "practical", I figured at least we would still have the option of using the original outfit design, but even that couldn't escape censorship it seems. I've added this new information to the entry now.

Wasteland 3 was censored in Australia in order to receive an R18+ certificate but I don't know what was altered/removed to get that rating: https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/w.html#wasteland-3. I don't know how this will affect the global release since the game has been heavily delayed due to the Pandemic but there's a theoretical possibility that all of them may be censored so the devs only have to develop and release one version of the game.

Here are some other games that were either banned outright in Australia or heavily censored:

VALKYRIE DRIVE -BHIKKHUNI (this was also banned in New Zealand (LINK), Germany (LINK), China (LINK), Iran (LINK - though the digital version is legal), Kenya (LINK), Pakistan (LINK) and Saudi Arabia (LINK)): https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/v.html#valkyrie-drive-bhikkhuni

The Bug Butcher: https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/b.html#bug-butcher

MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death: https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/m.html#meiq-labyrinth-of-death

Paranautical Activity: https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/p.html#paranautical-activity

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number: https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/h.html#hotline-miami-2-wrong-number

Saints Row IV (banned outright in Saudi Arabia (LINK)): https://www.refused-classification.com/censorship/games/saints-row-4.html

The Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC has just been banned in Saudi Arabia, presumably because the whole thing is about Sir Hammerlock marrying his boyfriend. This tweet is about the PC version but you can guarantee that the console versions are also affected: https://mobile.twitter.com/ibalw1/status/1242913572319084544

The JP version of Persona 5: Royal was censored as well so it looks like the only uncensored release might be the Asia English version :(:

Here's a video that compares the censored and uncensored versions of the affected scene(s):

Gal*Gun 2 was banned in New Zealand (and Saudi Arabia (LINK - Though the digital version is legal)) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_video_games#Saudi_Arabia), because their puritanical censors decided it was Child Porn: https://thespinoff.co.nz/games/02-02-2017/the-banning-of-galgun-double-peace-did-the-chief-censor-get-it-wrong/

New Zealand also banned Criminal Girls: Invite Only: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_video_games#New_Zealand

This link shows a list of notable games that have been banned (including a ton of PS4 and Vita games), in which counties and for what reason: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_video_games

It has now been confirmed that the FF7 remake has been completely and utterly butchered in the name of identity politics and corporate greed:

Saint Row 4 was censored in Australia both the original PS3 version and the PS4 Remastered due to two things. One was a weapon called the Rectifier Probe which basically you would shove into enemies anuses and send them flying, and the other was a mission which involved characters smoking alien narcotics to gain superpowers. Both of these things were removed from the Australian version thankfully the PS4 is region free so just buy a American or European copy of the game.

Thanks for the information, fellas.

@HuntingFever I've added the vast majority of what you had in your last post to the list. It took a while. :P While it does look like Wasteland 3 has been censored to appease Australia's classification board, I can't add it to the list until we know what exactly has been altered and whether or not it affects all regions or just Australia. I will keep an eye out for it though. As for the FFVII stuff, it's to be expected that dialogue is re-written in a "rebuilt from the ground up" remake. That doesn't necessarily mean its censorship. When the game comes out, it'll be easier to directly compare scenes from the original and the remake, and if it's plausible that a change could be down to ideology or "modern day values", it'll be easier to justify adding it to the list.

Just popping in to mention that Yumeutsutsu Re:Master released today. As far as I know, there's been no confirmation of censorship yet, but then there's something notable about this game from it's mid-2019 release in Japan: despite having a few instances of nudity, most notably one instance of the entire ass of a legal loli character, the game suffered no censorship from it's PC release (which is easy to see as the PC release was all-ages to begin with). It's entirely possible that the English version is in the same boat given that part of its M rating is for Nudity (not even Partial Nudity, just Nudity). Kinda hard to check since the game is $65 on PSN and I dunno if anyone asked Degica about it, though assuming that version also got off uncensored, this could say something about how much Sony's policies are really in effect at this point seeing as the same game would've managed to get through not once, but twice, despite having content that should have been censored going off of previous history.

Whatever the case, no one should buy this game from PSN right now. If it were just $65 I would've bought it already (because it's yuri). However the "additional content" is another $50... Even if it's as long as Nurse Love Syndrome, $115 is asking too much, imo. Thankfully there's a multi-language version coming out that includes everything for a little over $60.

Yeah, it's a shame the game's so damn expensive. Would be nice to see if Sony's policy may have rolled back over time, but $65 for one game without any bonuses is ridiculous.

Also worth looking out for Mary Skelter Finale while we're at it since the game's getting a PS4 release in spite of what happened to Mary Skelter 2. Could have the purification minigame cut and Compile Heart just decided to go ahead anyway as service to fans who stuck with them on Sony consoles, though assuming they can manage to get the minigame through on PS4, it could very well spell the end of Sony's policy given that lewd minigames were the first thing to get struck and would presumably be the last thing to get allowed back.

I did a bit of digging and found this:

This seems to be a good sign, at least. Mary Skelter Finale, as you mentioned, will likely be a better indicator though.

I also found out that there is a Vita version (of Yumeutsutsu) as well, but it has been delayed.

At first, it seemed odd to me that only the Vita version would be affected. However, it makes sense when you consider that the Vita QA team is probably one guy working out of a supply closet.

Not sure if it's exactly censorship, but it's actually funnier

Yeah, I've watched that video. In my opinion, it doesn't really belong on the list because it was done for comedic purposes. I think the Japanese version is funnier too. :P
