TLOU 2 spoilers galore and also Ghost of Tsushima delayed

I just found out that The Last of Us Part 2 was leaked, but we also have a new release date. Ghost of Tsushima has been delayed until July, what are your thoughts on this?

I guess I made my thoughts abundantly clear when it comes to TLOU2 leaks (TLDR; not buying that game anymore), so I will mostly write about Ghost Of Tsushima.

 

Ghost of Tsushima has only somewhat been on my radar so far, and mostly because it is taking some inspiration from Infamous from what I know, which itself has a strong resemblance to the Prototype Series, a series I enjoyed, also most of what was shown looked good. This specific japanese style in games is one I usually enjoy as well, even though one game using that has somewhat recently burned my ass.

I think any delay of a promising game should be encouraged at the moment, devs can't work their best with the whole coronavirus thing running wild anyway, and physical distribution is crippled so thats already a big no for some people. Give them the time to make up for that, let them get their stuff together, and there is a good chance you ultimately end up with a better product than what you would get if they tried to force it out on schedule despite all the outside factors taking their toll on its development. I know this is easier to say for someone like me, who is not really hyped for the game, but people who are hyped should be for the delay even more so that the finished game actually has a chance to deliver on that hype.

As for The Last of Us Part 2 leaks, it honestly sucks. The worse part is (from what I've seen) the majority of people bashing the game after spoiling themselves.

 

I may be biased, as I consider TLOU to be one of my favorite games of all time, but I wish people who spoil themselves to at least try the game before bashing story choices. If you play the game and still feel the same way, fine, but don't go on a twitter rant when you don't know the full story...

 

And to obviously not spoil it for others but when does that ever work out?

I have no opinion on The Last of Us Part II. Still need to finish the first game.

 

But as for Ghost of Tsushima I’m cool with  the delay because as @Nighcisama said they can’t do their best work atm. Plus July is far enough away that things will hopefully be a little more normal by then. Also it’s still a good distance from Cyberpunk’s release.

Don't know what was leaked on the Last of Us Part II, but I'll probably wind up getting both games sometime later this year anyway.
Even if I know what is leaked before hand, still doesn't ever change my mind on getting a product or not.

Ghost of Tsushima looks pretty good. Sucker Punch usually makes at least an enjoyable game and this one looks very impressive, so I might pick that up.

 

As for the leaks, I couldn't care less about The Last of Us 2 so I checked those leaks and I do genuinely feel sorry for all the fans looking forward to this game, cause this looks pretty bad based on what was revealed.

Seems like it's the cool kids to do to proclaim you NeVeR PlAyEd TloU and NeVR WilL. The amount of cringe in the earlier thread was almost unbearable. Left wing plots, pepefrogs being mad at muscular women, arguing based on anonymous sources. There is only one truth in this with The Last of Us. It's a shame there are spoilers out there that ruin the experience of others. I too have seen them, on completely irrelevant threads. I saw people on Facebook commenting the whole spoiler list on Playstation pages, it's all over Twitter too, it's on unrelated gaming videos and in some cases just in completely unrelated topics such as food. If you want to remain spoiler free for a good two months, it's probably best to completely turn off your internet.

What is up with this recent surge of writers thinking that subverting expectations automatically make their stories good? Ghost of Tsushima is probably the only game left this year that I'm looking forward to. What a sad turn of events..

We are playing in a post apocalyptic world that is generally a terrible place to be in. Having darker tones in the game itself makes complete sense. Apparently, according to some, TLoU can't afford the luxury of free story telling and is restricted to feel good endings. Have these people never seen a tragedy? Read a devastating book? Listened to a moody song? There is plenty of enjoyment and fulfillment out of things with darker undertones. What's important is how the story is experienced and if it evokes the correct responses through what the creator has in mind. I don't think stories should always be pleasant. They should be real. 

A good example I can find for people missing out is the DLC from the first game. People missed out on it because they accused the game of being SJW pandering because Ellie was romantically invested in her co partner. I played the DLC and what did I find? An expertly crafted story that wasn't some stereotypical trope. No, it was a story of two teenagers being in love in a ruthless world where they had to grow up way too quickly. I found joy and sadness in that story and it was overall a great context giver to the main game. The people who didn't play the DLC because of the reason mentioned above, probably missed out.

Anyway, I am no longer responding to this topic. It will probably end up being hijacked by the usual pepe frog gang. If you should remember anything from what I am trying to convey, it's this: 

 

A good story does not have to be a feel good story. We do not know if this is a good or bad game based on the leaks. People need to stop acting like a hyperbole. It sucks that some of us got spoiled and that's the end of that. If you are a fan of Tlou like I am, don't let darker undertones deter you from experiencing the next game. Don't believe the people claiming it's going to be some SJW manifesto. Wait for the game to come out, try and stay as spoiler free as possible and play it yourself if you care enough.

I'm reminded of all the comments of people shitting on Death Stranding when they saw gameplay footage online and screaming that it was just a walking sim, but when people who actually played it explained it, it was overwhelmingly positive.

 

I don't doubt this leak will be similar. Criticizing things is easy and gets attention. It's basically a zero effort activity, and it's really easy when you can just parrot the same things other people say.

 

As for a June 19th release date, I can see that happening. More stores have adapted the drive up/carry out business model and many states are opening more non-essential businesses with restrictions. The hardest part was probably finding printing capacity for the physical copies and coordinating the logistics of getting them to retailers. June is plenty of time to arrange all that.

Good thing I deleted my twitter account and deleted Facebook. They only waste your time, scrolling and scrolling shit to no end (and Instagram is even worse, though I’ve it to interact sometimes with my rlf). Pretty much all the good stuff in twitter can be filtered and exposed to you in a decent news site.

 

As for the criticism, well, I haven’t seen the spoilers, but I can imagine where the topics goes, plus, if it’s Sony related, it’s guaranteed to get extra interactions (be it hate or love).

And I can’t agree more about the dark stories, one of the things that blow my mind off and made me label TLOU as a masterpiece, is how cruel, realistic and emotional the story was, and the ending was just right.

I feel like Naughty Dog has been on a decline for me. I grew up with Jak and Daxter and love all 4 games. When it comes to Uncharted, I still think the storytelling is pretty great still, but the controls are a turn off every time I hop on any of the games. I tried playing The Last of Us years ago, and just did not like it at all. I felt the controls were bad, and the storytelling after the intro sequence was mediocre at best (I do think the game is great objectively speaking, because most everyone else who played the game loves it). Gearing up to The Last of Us Part 2 I've had this suspicion that the game would not be really well-received. After looking at spoilers and reading more upon it, (no spoilers from me. I'm not that kind of guy) I just do not understand what they were thinking with that. I understand that the world of TLoU is supposed to be dark, and not everything has a happy ending. In fact, I like when stories deviate from the generic happy ending, and especially when it is executed well. However, I do not believe what has been shown within the leaks is a good way of showing that the story is supposed to be dark and not a happy ending and instead seems like it leans more on shock value. Of course, I could be wrong because the game is not released, and therefore have not experienced it. Maybe it will be properly explained and will be good. However, I think it is unlikely. I do want the game to be good, because I think Naughty Dog can make great games, but this is not looking too good in my opinion.

 

That being said, Ghost of Tsushima has looked amazing so far!! One of the few games that I'm really looking forward to.

People infuriated about the Woke aspect that the 2nd contains it seems that played the 1st one blindly, some of that was there, subtlety, but it was there.

And it seems that is the norm in many things, c'mon. You've seen it, most of series nowadays, start subtle and then go Full Woke on the following seasons.

I platinumed the first Last of Us and I thought it was an absolute bore and was overhyped. I can see why people are angry with Naughty Dog as they are clearly pushing an agenda which is clear from the leaks and this is also reflected from workers at Naughty Dog themselves (Including the individual who leaked this due to workplace abuse). Now from reading some of the responses in this thread, it’s quite evident that some people are sheep and are happy to just buy the game without asking any questions but I can absolutely guarantee that the sales of this game are going to be far lower due to these leaks. In a way, I suppose it was a good thing I read those leaks as I know I don’t have to waste my money on a clear piece of garbage.
