It will all depends on the damage done. “Better” is not quite the word. Weapons are more efficient for good combo. And as was already said, dumping enemies in holes, the elevators and in the airplane, also grants all their energy as damage bonus. RadiantFlamberge
Sometimes you should wait a bit to destroy the breakable items such as boxes. Hits on those also help extend the combo time.
SlyBeast69
The requirements for S-rank on stage 4 on PS4 are far too high, especially considering the cheap AI on higher difficulties.
Rozalia1
Stage 4 does come off as one of the harder ones to S rank, though I think stage 6 is harder. I kept restarting until I kept a full combo up to the bit where the police shows up.

Popular Post Papito208
Out of all the levels stage 4 is the most annoying to get because the real bosses are those kicks from the Diamond girls. I'm up to the Skytrain on the PS4 but was able to get all S ranks on the Switch (While out and about). So far here are my tips: -Take advantage of invincible frames: Everyone's back throw (grab someone, throw in the opposite direction) leaves you invincible, same with slam (grab someone from behind and slam to the ground) so if you know you're about to get hit with something or see an incoming attack (Someone throwing a weapon, galsia charge, motorcycle girl's dash, diamond's jump kick) throw someone and they'll go right through you. -Focus on damage not on combo count: You can have 100+hits with cherry but if they're not strong hits the score won't go up as much. Floyd can hit someone 20 times and obtain a higher score. Learn what is the most damaging attack each character has and try to prioritize those hits. For example: Cherry's back throw is safe and hits hard, Adam's uppercut (Grab+Punch with no direction) hits hard and can hit multiple enemies in front of you. -Use weapons: There are key moments in stages where using the weapon is a must to help raise the combo damage get you to or near the "Out of this world" score. Example: Old pier there's a donovan that comes from the left in the second big area that has a bat. While you can rely on specials to increase your damage, using that bat is the safest and easiest way to reach out of this world (See example here [0:51 if the link doesn't automatically take you there], here [at 2:40] and the last boss [Take the mace from the fight with the robot and carry it all the way to the end of the level. After that first area no one picks up weapons. When you hit an object [trying not to spoil] the weapon doesn't expire, so you can wail on the 1st boss when they sit on the object and continue wailing on the object when the second boss sits on it and it cuts down your time dramatically) -Use your star specials: like it's been stated here using your star specials to get rid of the tougher enemies is way better than holding onto them. Good areas to use them are: Old Pier near the end of the 1st area (before the beach) to get rid of the shield guys and taser cops (Example), getting rid of the first two galsia's in the cargo ship boss right, right before the airplane with the 3 shield guys and the two electric bomb throwing girls or just any area where you feel overwhelmed. There's been plenty of times where I died twice, used a star special and still got the S rank because of the high combos I racked up throughout the level) -It's ok to drop the combo sometimes: If you feel like you're about to hit a tough area that's giving you difficulty, just drop the combo and then push forward. Sometimes it's best to have a decent combo score throughout different areas which helps to give you another life (which is another 2000 points if you're at full health). Your time, health and stacked star specials can help push you up to the S rank requirement with decent combos throughout the level. In regards to characters, use whoever you're comfortable with. For me it's Axel and Adam. Axel has a lot of great tools to help control the crowd (heavy kick, headutt, defensive special) but the quick dashes from Adam REALLY help in keeping the combo going. Hope this helps. Edited May 15, 2020 by Papito208 added another tip about dropped combos.
EightBitArtist
guys if youre having trouble with the diamond girls jump kicks, just do neutral triangle move when they are in the air. it always counters them and itll keep your combo.
Papito208
Just 400,000 points away from the platinum. Here are my scores: Stage 1 - 30,357 - Adam Stage 1 - 26,802 - Cherry Stage 3 - 20,916 - Axel Stage 4 - 27,238 - Adam Stage 5 - 30,858 - Adam Stage 6 - 32,453 - Adam Stage 7 - 18,360 - Adam Stage 8 - 24,091 - Adam Stage 9 - 27,448 - Adam Stage 10 - 23,815 - Adam Stage 11 - 28,651 - Adam Stage 12 - 44,004 - Adam Here's a playlist with all the videos: All in all it seems very forgiving. There were plenty of levels where I lost a life and still got the S Rank. If anything I feel like every stage has that one section where you can rack up a big combo to carry to through the stage for the S Rank. Whenever I felt like I missed out on it I just restarted. ObsceneSociopath
I believe the threshold for S Rank on hard on stage 4 is 26,000. On one of my runs I had 25,894 & that was an A but I have someone on my friends list who had the S Rank and only has 26,201. Managed to do Stage 4 in the end, hit just over 30k. Made several stupid mistakes but managed to pull it back. Here's a video of my run just incase anyone is interested:

RadiantFlamberge
Stage 01 - 28.204 Stage 02 - 26.614 Stage 03 - 20.332 Stage 04 - 27.720 Stage 05 - 35.214 Stage 06 - 40.031 Stage 07 - 15.475 Stage 08 - 24.354 Stage 09 - 26.423 Stage 10 - 25.777 Stage 11 - 26.047 Stage 12 - 38.461 Here's my playlist with all 12 stages, all done with Floyd. Like Papito208 said, this is pretty forgiving. A good combo such as a Sick or higher in the dojo section of Chinatown (stage 6) where the Galsias or Donovans keep rushing into the room can make up for a lost life. Kitsuna101
Stage 1 - 26901 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 2 - 30398 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 3 - 20183 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 4 - 27092 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 5 - 32267 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 6 - 32191 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 7 - 15272 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 8 - 28987 - SOR3 Shiva Stage 9 - 24096 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 10 - 30240 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 11 - 26628 - SOR3 Blaze Stage 12 - 40980 - SOR3 Shiva It wasn't as difficult as I feared it would be. Stages 4 & 7 took several attempts, but the rest didn't take more than a small number of retries. I used SOR3 Blaze for the most part, largely because her blitz move is so good. It has tons of invincibilty on it, so there's no risk of a sneaky attack interrupting it and breaking your combo and you can use it to pass through several attacks and get damage in. I shifted to Shiva for stage 8 because all the potion throwing girls were causing my blood pressure to sky-rocket with their keep-away game and for stage 12 I played him because his damage output is way higher and there are a lot of high HP enemies on the last level. Thanks for the advice but I tried him a lot after I watched a vid on youtube on how to do it, but alas I am really bad with him even with his invincibility frames. However I finally got the S rank on stage 3 with Adam. Now I have a worse problem on stage 4 because I can’t get past a B rating. Getting S ranks on hard is VERY HARD, and my hat goes off to anybody who has gotten the “Maniac” trophy already. This plat is honestly proving to be much more difficult than I originally thought. I will press on because the game is so good and it deserves the extra effort to get the Platinum.
