A Casual BACKLOG EVENT NOW FINISHED

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, update for me once again :))

I finished Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, and I must say this is really my type of game. What a wonderful and weird little game this is. I am yet to try the DLC, not quite sure when I'll get around to it, I am thinking about just starting another playthrough right away, but I am so close to be done with the pyramid so that's holding me back right now.

The story or the characters wasn't really for me what made Dragon's Dogma a good game, but the world, the enemy design, the combat and the different mechanics were just spot on, and I think they all worked pretty well. I think right now I am pretty happy with the game so I'm probably missing some critique. I just thought it was crazy good. I like that you have the option of changing your characters class whenever you want even though I didn't do it.

1 of the things I loved most is that you also make your companion who is with you the whole way through, and then you can hire other "pawns" that other players made. If those pawns had tried a quest or defeated a monster that you haven't then it would automatically come with advice as it was relevant. On the same manner other players can also hire your pawn, and it will learn stuff, and people can send it back with a little message and a little gift (of course you can use him while he is away as well) - The only thing here is that it's not the most active game lol, so only 2 people hired my pawn, but maybe that's because I made it so ugly. Your companion levels up with you, but your pawns don't, which is a great incentive to switch out pawns often also given that it is so easy to do, because some times pawns are out on the road and you can just switch them out on the go.

Some small complaints I have are mostly a thing of that generation of games given it was originally for PS3 I think? (Correct me if I'm wrong). As far as I know, you can't use items on your pawns, also if you have an item that is good equipment for your main pawn, you first have to give it to him, then equip it etc. maybe just do a shared inventory? And then just get rid of the inventory weight thing, You have to carry so much before it makes a difference so it just slows the pace that you have to clean your inventory before going out, if you don't know how long you'll be gone. There are a few quest where you have to follow people who walk so slowly omg. But generally I thought the quests were super interesting and diverse as were all the monsters.

I am a bit torn on the side quests though. I was trying to complete all the quests in 1 playthrough (and I managed to do that, but only with a guide). You will never get them all in one playthrough without a guide, some are so missable it's ridiculous. Like it opens up after a main quest and it is immediately failed after the next main quest (And the two main quests were in the same location and the side quest were in a whole other place - so it's not like you could ever notice it unless you thought that maybe something had unlocked at the previous location etc.) Because I wanted to do all the side quests I was a bit scared of failing them, which made some of the things not as fun for me. It is cool that there are some hidden things, but I think this is needlessly hiding content just for the sake of it. Damn am I glad the gameplay is phenomenal though - you can climb giant monsters and jump to different parts of their body and hit their weakspot and it really feels like you're controlling every little bit.

It does feel like it is missing some sort of tactical element where you can order your pawns to do something specific. For example if you are a warrior, and you know a winged creature would be hurt by being shot with fire on its wings, then you should be able to go to a menu maybe and just activate the fire spell. Just to have the option, because else you just sit there and wait. And I know you can just change your class, but that is quite the detour. I was doing a side quest where I had to hit a target up in a tree, but you can't reach that as a warrior, so you have to wait for your pawns to do it, but even though they know they have to destroy the target to destroy the monster, they are going for the monster anyway, which feels so stupid that you can't just set them to target a specific target.

One last bummer is that you get way too overpowered DLC items early on. I didn't change equipment for the whole game except weapons of course. And you get an infinite teleportation item, which I do appreciate even though the world is filled with the limited kind, so it almost wouldn't make a difference in that sense.

One small thing I love is how great the running and jumping feels, when I got to the capitol I just did parkour on the rooftops for way too long because it felt so great.

I started my second playthrough but I'm not sure I'm gonna play it now. I can feel I am already enjoying it much more, because I'm not afraid of missing some obscure side quest, which is how it is supposed to feel. I'm glad I experienced all the quests because they are great, but I think this game is even better when you just do exactly what you wanna do, when you wanna do it, and you can't really do that before your second playthrough if you're going for a platinum.

I would really recommend this game, but if you want the platinum it can be a little annoying to follow a guide so closely, maybe I was following it too closely but I was a bit paranoid because of the one savefile only and all that. That aside it is an awesome game and if you have it, it will not disappoint. The harder bosses were amazing and I can't wait to try the later bosses in the dlc etc. Really one of a kind.

Below is my pyramid. I have made some changes design-wise (not the most innovative lol). And I think I learnt to put the pyramid in a spoiler, so it doesn't fill up the entire page on the forum thread (sorry until now), not that it does much in this situation because I can't shut up about this amazing game (with some small flaws that I can really get by). My pyramid now uses trophies to symbolise my progress. And decided to use hidden trophies for things not started, and also give trophies to the leves so I can see how far along I am at each level - Hope you enjoy:

Next up is Oninaki - which I have been looking so much forward to! And after that only 1 game left - Hollow Knight, which will be so hard ouch. I have been following Oninaki before it got released and got it day 1. I ended up playing about 5 hours and then I never came back to it, think it came out just as I started on university and then I put gaming away for a while to socialise and study etc. I was so excited for it because in all the trailers I thought it had a little bit of a vibe like an old game called Lunia, which to me is probably one of the most nostalgic games for me, because it got me into gaming. And especially gaming with friends and talking about games. I had played games before but this got me interested in all aspects which were not just Pokémon on my gameboy etc. I don't think anything can live up to those expectations but I am excited for Oninaki because I don't really remember it.

Sorry for the long-ass post, I really hope you're all having a nice easter, I know I am at least :))

Using my Vita swap to swap out Danganronpa (Vita) on my Level 2 with Severed (Vita). I bought Severed and I'm probably going to make it my 100th plat to honor the passing of the Vita in these shitty times lol. I've heard good things about this game and it's use of the touch screen, hyped to play it.

Congrats @MikkelEhlers just 2 more games to go ! If your worried about Hollow Knight and just want to finish the pyramid with something a little easier you can always use one of the store closure swaps for a vita game or ps3 game (1 swap per console) if you have those consoles (just a thought). Im glad you enjoyed Dragons Dogma (not my cup of tea but i love it when someone really enjoys a game).

@Neptuos Tell you what its great to see your making up for lost time :) I played gravity rush on the Vita. Its something different thats for sure. Unravel is a good game i feel and short playthrough too!! at only 5 hours i think! Look forward to hearing how you get on :)

@Arethien Its a shame you didn't enjoy it as much as i did but at least you got through and thats another of your list which is the main thing lol. whats next for you ??

Well I can only really think of 1 game I want from the PS Vita store that I don't already have - Persona 4 Golden, and I think that is way too long lol, I don't think a JRPG would be good as the last game.

But don't get me wrong, I'm excited for Hollow Knight, I do like the hard games, but it'll sure be frustrating at some points

Sorry to hear you didn't like Dragon's Dogma, anything specific that made you dislike it?

Thanks :) A little break was good for me, now i'm definitely more into trophy hunting, and this event is also helping me getting closer to my 80% completion goal, i can already smell it.

Anyway, just finished Unravel, why does it have to be so sad? i almost started a flood here. I just need to beat some levels without dying for the platinum, which will take me a while since i'm not that skilled when it comes to platformers.

Just a short update from me

Started playing Oninaki, and I think I am moderately far into the game. I think there are 8 Daemons in total (Think of them as playstyles that you unlock) - And I've had a bad habit in games that gives me a lot of different tools to use, that I use the one that I like the most, which is often one of the first choices because I get comfortable with them. For this game I have made myself a little challenge, that every time I unlock something new, like a new fighting style, I have to stick with it, until I unlock the next.

I am so glad I am doing this. I swear every time I try a new one I'm immediately thinking, oh god this is terrible, can't wait for the next one. But then 5-10 minutes pass and I upgrade it a bit, get some new skills etc. and suddenly I love it. I think in general I have to be a bit more patient, because these things are really enjoyably when I give it just a little time. And I think it's the same with most games, where you actually have to tune in to the new thing, develop a skill with it, and get it "up to date" with upgrades etc.

So far an amazing game, just had to get this out because it's literally every time I get a new style - Just got my 7th Daemon, and can't wait for the rest of the game, it's actually just on pause while writing this, so bye I will continue this awesome game:)

Mini update for end of the week.

Started Drive Girls on Vita as my next main focus game.  Was looking to also start a longer game on PS4 since there is only so long I can stare down at my vita in a day.  That got postponed as I needed to replace the hard drive in my ps4 this last week,  it started having issues and after trying to rebuild the database it didn't look promising for keeping the old one going, which after 5 years of playing on it it seemed to last longer than I would have expected.  Especially since for the last 5 years it has had to put up with my landlord turning off power to my office during the day without telling us they were going to be doing work to other areas of the house.  This probably happened 10 to 15 times over the last 5 years, and the hard drive doesn't seem to like this while you are in the middle of gaming or in sleep mode.  I now have a shiny new 1TB SSD so I hoping that it increases load times a little bit, it is already quieter than my old failing drive.  The change over was pretty painless, it was more trying to get the saves and other files off that weren't backed up to the cloud.

So I beat far cry 4s story. Kind of ended suddenly. Like you choose to kill or not kill pagan and it goes to credits instant after you choose to shoot him. Do you got to finish every little thing to get the true ending or something?

Anyways, on to borderlands 2 and far cry 5.

Finished up Severed (Vita) on my Level 2 yesterday. That's plat #100 for me and I'm glad to be over the triple digit plat hump. The game itself was awesome and it incorporated the touch screen really well. Shit had me gorilla gripping my Vita in such a weird way to be able to swipe fast enough to kill some of the tougher enemies it had my hand cramping up bad for a bit. The game was perfect length for me as well, had it all wrapped up in around 7-8ish hours total. 3 more games till I can start a new pyramid, it's unfortunate that I left all my long ass games for last lol, but it is what it is. Not sure which one I want to play next, but I'm kinda leaning towards wrapping up Borderland 3. ?
