Hey all, already back with another update:

I think this is officially my shortest period between game updates which gives me confidence for the rest of the pyramid. I completed Dragon Ball: Xenoverse yesterday. Pretty cool game in my opinion, I've never seen Dragon Ball, but I've played so many of them that I know all of the important arcs. The cool thing about this one is that it went much further than other games I have played - last were probably on my ps2. What I mostly want in fighting games is that I can relax with them and make some cool combos without stressing too much about combination. I like there to be the depth and possibility to make combos and such - Tekken is the perfect fighting game for me I love that. You can't really compare these 2 on that front, but it does remind me a bit of the ultimate storm games. It is awesome that you can just fly around all over the place and actually feel like one from Dragon Ball. I like all the skills you could collect, but I ended up using the ones I felt most useful, same with equipment etc. The story or voice acting isn't anything special. I'm not sure how I feel about the rpg mechanics - I like that you specialise in exactly the playstyle you like. Which meant I did not level up my ki-abilities at all. But that also meant that I couldn't really use half of the skills for anything. Although you can respec your stats but getting to the point takes a long time and means you have to use your collected dragon balls. The story ramped up in difficulty pretty quick, but I realised it was because they wanted you to do the parallel quests in between the story missions. Which was a nice break from constant story. But it was a bit annoying if you were on a flow at the story and got blocked off because your stats weren't high enough. You could push through but stats did a lot in this game. It's not my favourite fighting game, but I unexpectedly liked it a lot, so if you have it in your backlog, I can recommend it, because it is short and sweet and has a lot to offer. I ended up playing through the story in pretty much 2 days. It took a bit of battles until I understood the battle system enough to enjoy it. I thought it felt very clunky at times, but when I learned it, it was a pleasant surprise. However it wasn't always responsive, which is fair for a remastered ps3 game but a shame because it could have made the difference between good and really good. I ended completing the story and not quite feeling I was done yet. So I went on to do the requirements so I could do the secret story missions, and after that I ended up completing every parallel quest, and also every dlc parallel quest. I like combining my own teams on the quests and they are varied enough to keep it interesting.

However, if you're going for plat, it might be a grind. The mentors are such a great idea for the game, but it takes way too long between their training missions to unlock. Through the whole game I mastered the techniques of 2 trainers and I found out afterwards they were dlc mentors (so I didn't even need to do those lol) I guess it's fine there's so long between if you're going to collect every super technique etc. because of the rng and the amount it can take so long. Right now I'm finishing up by farming the 7 dragon balls one, just for the sake of it, but I won't be throwing everything I'm doing to keep grinding. They went a little overboard here. However it is really relaxing game for me, so I might turn it on once in a while, farm a few skills and dragon balls and then turn it off so I won't get tired of it.

All in all a great game in my opinion, I'd like to try the second game some day, definitely. Maybe in some time because the story is probably pretty similar because anime games

Below you can see my pyramid progress:

UazI39u.png

My plan now is playing Salt & Sanctuary and I'm feeling really excited about it. Before I start I think I'll be collecting the dragon balls and then I have this plan, that when I feel frustrated about progressing in Salt & Sanctuary I can just take a few relaxing rounds in Dragon Ball Xenoverse - My goal is to unlock all the characters (Have to collect 7 dragon balls 3 times for this) and maybe eventually finish all the mentors, then I see where I'll be at, when that is done

I have no idea how long Salt & Sanctuary is, but I'm jumping into it with a good feeling. Until I get whacked for an hour by the tutorial boss lol

Hope it's going great for you all.

Prototype 1 is done! The game was really fun and can't wait to play number 2 in the near future. The movement on this game is sublime and fluid and fast just what i like. I often saw this game compared to infamous but i feel its on thing and to be fair there were more differences rather than similarities. Its a shame that prototype is no more as a series. Boy oh  Boy was 2009 a great year in gaming and i can add this to the list of games from that year I love.

LEVEL ONE
Kickbeat (PS VITA)

LEVEL TWO
Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 (PS4)

Far Cry Primal (Ps4)

LEVEL THREE
Plants Vs Zombies (Ps3)

Prototype 1 (PS4)

Yu-gi-oh! Legacy of the duelist (Ps4)

LEVEL FOUR
Destruction All stars (Ps5)
Bugsnax (Ps5)

Need For Speed (Ps4)

Ratchet and Clank 1 (Ps3)

LEVEL FIVE

Resistance 2 (Ps3)
Ratchet and Clank 2 (Ps3)
Homefront The Revolution (Ps4)

Plants vs zombies Battle For Neighborville (Ps4)

TableTop Racing World Tour (Ps4)

Yugioh is still being played here and there but for this month im going to focus on the Ea games on my list (and the 3 that aren't) as I have till April 7th to get them done before my sub expires so That means its Need for speed next for me. (luckily NFS payback was on plus so don't have to do 3 Nfs games in a month lol)

we happy few is often complex on explaining what its like, you either have fun time during it and get trophies or struggle because of the gaming being rather buggy, i needed to do more than one play though to get all trophies. but in the end i thought it was well done for not being a major title like we know a triple A game supposed to be

@MikkelEhlers

More battle themes would have been awesome. xD Totally agree with you on that point and I hope that's something they are adding to Tales of Arise. Having a "snowy" theme or a "mountain" theme would really make the game more immersive (in battles). Of course, once you get outside the battles... then you get back to the different music for each area. Some of the tracks are just downright gorgeous in their composition. Others... well, they are good but more generic. I'm glad you played dress up with the characters. I usually do one "serious" playthrough then I dress up all my characters in NG+. Some of the scenes are totally goofy when you're looking at Karol in a frog suit for example, or Yuri just living it up in some summer wear. Lol.

Difficulty affects not only the enemies stats, but also how much "hyper armor" they have (the shield thing that you have to break to stun them and stuff). The higher the difficulty, the harder it is to break the hidden "hyper armor" value to stun them/knock them down/juggle them and the faster they recover from it. If you can't break it, they have 100% uptime and can basically walk all over your team with artes/skills that hurt a lot. Also in later battles, bosses will start to use Mystic Artes much more frequently, chain their artes more frequently and they hit harder and such. I don't think the AI changes much aside from them chaining stuff more but it seems like a big change because if you can't knock them down every few seconds... they actually have time to do stuff and it HURTS. However, the increase in difficulty starts to encourage more strategic use of Artes to "lock down" enemies (since you constantly have to keep pumping out dps to keep their hyper armor in check). Less of a shift on Hard mode, but Mania and especially Unknown mode can be brutal without proper use of artes/resource management to keep juggling/dps.

But yeah, you're actually spot on in your assessment of the combat itself. I think it's actually weird because the game doesn't hand you the skills you need to actually chain artes until far too late in the game (imo). So for the first 20 hours you're basically locked into a 1-2-3 combo with 1 arte and maybe a burst arte. Repeat x999 until you FINALLY unlock the skills that let you chain artes or even let you chain your base combo more than 3 times. This is actually a common complaint in ToV and I can totally see why having more base combos would be excellent, ESPECIALLY because of the fact that chaining artes is gated so late in the game. Once it DOES finally unlock, chaining your artes and finding combos is fun. But even then it's the same 1-2-3 just with the addition of being able to start chaining different artes together in your kit. Personally it didn't bother me (I'm used to playing Tales games, plus I'm used to doing repetitive stuff as it is) but if you're coming from an action based battle system... it'll be super underwhelming in that department. Let's hope Arise brings a more action centered combat system! (Seriously, I'm so ready for a Tales game based on action combat completely).

Manual mode (on yourself) lets you bypass some of the semi-auto restrictions (you can do stuff like animation cancel and a few other tricks with manual mode) but I never used it, unless you're going hardcore. You can also turn all your AI companions to manual mode to prevent them from doing anything when you're trying to manipulate a combo/do something by yourself.

The stuff in this spoiler contains end game suggestions for you/some tips on what I did when earning the plat. Put it in a spoiler because 1) this post is long (I'm sorry!) and 2) didn't know if you wanted to look at post game stuffs, since you might not go back to it, but here it is anyways lol:

Spoiler

For the GRADE shop I used the Rita Tidal Wave grade trick (YouTube it if you wanna do it, it's fantastic to earn GRADE) in NG to earn 12k grade before my NG+ run so I could buy everything I needed (took me several hours to do though...). I did all the post-game stuff in NG+++, because I basically did:

  • Playthrough 1: "Story" mode (no guide).
  • Playthrough 2: "Speedrun" mode using all the GRADE shop bonuses to complete the game in under 15 hours for that trophy/achievement. I did it in 4 hours with the power of the GRADE shop. Abuse holy bottles to skip most of the battles. With 10x exp on you'll level up from most boss battles. Also there is free DLC you can download to instantly level up your characters to level 40 right from the start of the game.
  • Playthrough 3: Take your 2nd playthrough save and save it somewhere different. Then load that file up (because you won't be completing the full game on it). You'll be going for Low Level Challenger (defeat Barbos at level 15 or under). You can use the GRADE shop to halve your characters EXP they earn. So turning that on + transferring all your weapons/armor, play on easy mode, and just speedrun to Barbos skipping every battle you can with holy bottles = took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach Barbos and kill him. I think I killed him at like level 12 or 13.
  • Playthrough 4: Complete playthrough that did all the titles, post game dungeons, items, etc. following a guide with all the GRADE bonuses unlocked. You could technically skip the 4th playthough if you 100% your 1st playthough but... that's no fun using a guide from start to finish on your first time.

For the secret missions, there is a small island in the top left of the map you can visit after you step into the final dungeon for the first time. On that island is a Katz you can talk to that will let you replay the bosses. You can't earn EXP or gald, but you can complete the secret missions for all of the bosses EXCEPT one (or two, I can't remember) boss(es) which need a specific key item. If you missed the key item, you can't complete the secret mission. But yeah, this lets you go back and do basically every secret mission post-game if you wanted too except that 1 (or 2, I can't remember haha). No need for NG+ for those missions. :)

Additionally on that island is a Katz that will let you view past skits and see which ones you haven't unlocked... but... there's something more. In NG+ if you buy the "Unlock all Skits" GRADE shop bonus before starting the game, then once you get back to the end of the game and unlock the island again the skit Kat will let you view ALL SKITS regardless if you've met the requirements to unlock them or not. This is HUGE for the trophy for "viewing all skits" because you can essentially sit at the Kat and run down the list (skits you haven't viewed before will be highlighted blue) and either listen to them or skip them (you can skip the talking of skits and it still counts as "viewed", you don't have to actually sit there and listen to all of the talking if you don't wanna). This is MEGA important because some skits are "choice" based where you can only choose one way or the other for the WHOLE playthrough. Also a lot of skits are time bound (only avaliable during certain story arcs), some require ridiculous requirements to unlock, etc. Basically, it'll save you soooo much time and let you easily earn that trophy.

For the end game dungeon with multiple floors, some of the monsters are only vulnerable to physical damage and some are only vulnerable to magic damage. The Fell Arm weapon for Yuri is fire based so I found that when I swapped that for a weapon with no element on it, I was able to damage the monsters that would take 1 damage when I had been using the Fell Arm. Maybe try that and see if it works. I just remember I had to do a lot of swapping to get it to work properly based on the situation.

As for the end of the story, yeah. It was not my cup of tea either. The whole "friendship" thing, Estelle living, no sacrifices made. I dunno. Could have been done so much better. I still liked it and thought it was fun, but it's not like it's the greatest story ever told either. I found the mystery of Duke to be awesome though. Was never expecting him to be the final boss. But yeah as you said story is so subjective that it's hard to judge. I do agree with you that the constant conversations kinda got boring too (the split up, talk to everyone before you can proceed thing). It's like "LET ME JUST MOOOOOOVE ONNNNNN" but the game's like "Nah, you gotta sit here for 30 minutes teehee". Even though I like the game a lot, I still think it's a flawed gem haha. Padded I can see, especially with the Definitive Edition which added more cutscenes/areas that were NOT in the original release to fill in the gaps for the veteran players. It adds a lot of depth if you're a returning player, but it's just a lot of "stuff" for first time players who might not realize that the extra cutscenes/characters were added on. Like Patty for example was completely gone from the original game, Flynn was not a playable character at all. So completely remove everything with Patty from the game, all that extra stuff you had to do, the whole ship thing with her, etc.

As for game suggestions, maybe you'll find that Tales of Berseria might be more your style? It goes on sale a lot for really cheap. That game focuses a bit more on the combos/character swapping and has a more action-y feel to it than Vesperia's linear motion battle system. I certainly would pick Berseria over Zesteria though. Zesteria isn't necessarily a bad game, just that it's not the best Tales game out there. I'd maybe skip on Symphonia or most of the older games at this point cause their battle systems are less actiony and more of the same thing as Vesperia (but to a older/lesser degree). Also Symphonia is equally as long of a game as Vesperia and contains a lot of the same stuff like the long convos and such. I think most Tales games do that to some degree or another though. They just tend to be long games overall.

Although my ultimate recommendation if you want to keep going with this JRPG series would be to wait for Tales of Arise. From the trailer alone it looked like there's a rolling/dodge system now and a focus on more actiony combat than previous titles. I know the premise of Tales of Arise was not to lose the "charm" of a Tales game combat, but also to modernize it. Not saying that Tales of Arise will actually live up to those expectations, just that it'll be the most modern game in the series and a great opportunity to really see if it's something you'll like or not because it promises to try and evolve the Tales formula to something new. It'll also be the first time the Tales series has made a graphical leap in... a long time. Unreal Engine 4 woooo.

Ultimately ToV is one of those games that despite it's quirks and flaws (like the combat or story or long cutscenes) somehow hits me with being a great adventure that's just fun to play. Now, am I expecting Arise to blow Vesperia to dust? Absolutely. As a fan of the series I've been waiting so long for a graphical/combat upgrade to really shake things up that Arise appears to be doing. I fully want Arise to become my new fav Tales game, but in this era of development... it's got me wary of how horrible things could end up being. ?

Great progress all,

Wow this feels weird I have no weekly update, and in fact it is Tuesday, not my usual Sunday night/Monday morning update.  I have no idea where to go next on my list.  I would say it is burnout but I don't think that is true I want to play a game just not sure which one to jump into.  I do still have my swap so I might consider using that too.

Oh well, I look forward to continuing to see how everyone is progressing keep up the great work all.

little update from me.

Since i 100%'ed GTA V, i've not been in the mood for games. The Masterminds trophy was rough, and i hated the game at the end of it.

Been playing a little, but i need to pick it back up soon. Just haven't felt like playing a game this week :o

I started South park, and have got 18% of the trophies, but i just realised i should play Uncharted first :D

Little update from me as well just to join in on the fun:

I'm now at 1 monster needed for crowns in Monster Hunter World and 7 monsters left to go in the Iceborne expansion.

The long and short end of the stick is that I just crossed 360 hours in this game and I probably have anywhere between 20-60 hours left to finish the remaining trophies for both of the plats. Needless to say I am insanely burnt out but I am as stubborn as a mule. Each day brings me a little closer to the plats. Once completed they will be the longest plat's I have on my profile to date and MHW will be the fourth longest game I've ever played across all gaming systems I've ever touched.
