Massive Difficulty drop

23 posts in this topic

I know I shouldn't really complain about this, considering my playthrough was on Safety, but this game was the easiest JRPG I've ever played, by a couple of country miles. The first time I played this, while my main character didn't faint, sometimes my party member's did. Persona 4, bit of the same, but in NG+ no one fainted, except in first dungeon. Persona 3, Couple of game overs. And now this. I mean, considering the fact that Atlus is known for making stupidly difficult games (Persona Q series is a nightmare), this feels so weak in comparison. And that's coming from someone who doesn't optimize personas or something. Couple that with the lack of any challenge in the trophy list (with a completion percentage sitting at 57% at time of writing), and this feels like they went extremely easy on us. At least the game itself was magnificent

As people said, you chose a difficulty lower than easy, you get revived each time you die, enemies give you 20+% more money&exp than on other difficulties, plus making the enemies a lot weaker. You chose that yourself, the game isn't even hard, when you read the difficulty description didn't you think that's a little too easy? Why do you even play a difficulty easier than normal? You want to save time?

Playing on Safe makes confidants and the Persona managing system useless which is all the fun in this game. And as people said, you shouldn't be complaining. You chose that yourself

Alright, both are true, but still. All my other playthroughs up till now are always on the easiest difficulty. I mean, I beat the reaper without even getting hit once. On Persona 4 Golden, the same Reaper took quite some time, with a persona with max stats. Now, it got almost a quarter of it's health kicked off by a level 75 Arsène having like 60 strength. And Ryuji's insta-kill is completely broken. There's a difference between easy (like the other games's safety) and it being basically impossible to die. The bosses went down way faster and everything, I barely got any status effects in the game.

Oh well. I'll play it again on Merciless or something, and I'll see if it's still easy.

Of course you would say that, you played it on Safety. 🤨 I’m baffled.

Persona 5 Royal is easier than Persona 5 because the management of SP is essentially lighter. Reaper's health (and I think its damage too) was nerfed as well. I usually play Persona on Normal, but in this case I started on Normal and switched to Hard in the 4th Palace and switched again to Merciless at the end of the game.

On the other hand, as people already said, Safety mode is like a God-mod were you don't have to worry about fights, fusing personas or anything. It's made for people that are interested in the story but don't want to worry about that stuff.

As far as I can read about your experience, you should have chosen to play on Normal or at least on Easy mode.

Persona 4 golden is an older game with more conventional difficulties, easy/normal/hard. Nowadays including a "just here for the story" difficulty is more common.

Royal is far easier then base P5, with the exp and money boosts in mementos and being able to level baton passes and technicals.

Ammo refills after every fight and personas getting more stats and sometimes better skills during fusion alarms. Also merciless is now easier then hard mode with the changes they gave that mode.

I disagree, the new Okumura boss fight is harder than anything I did in P5, I had to switch from hard to merciless to beat it.

I agree Okumura is harder then in P5, but its also the only fight in the whole game you cant just kill things to win. You have to take time to set up a one round kill all.

Overall though the game is easier.

Gonna have to agree, though my perspective is from the base game and not Royal. I played Persona 5 on hard and it is one of the easiest JRPGs I've ever played, and I've played well over 50. Baton Pass makes 80% of mobs a cakewalk if you have proper personas built, and I'm playing on hard so of course I do. Every single confidant giving a bonus made preparations and surviving easier, and some even made leveling confidants easier too. Bosses were more of a puzzle to solve rather than a test of might and skill. It's been forever since I played and I didn't enjoy it at all so I don't remember much but I remember having way more issues. The only other JRPGs I can think of off the top of my head that are easier are Ar Tonelico 1, Persona 4 (played PS2 on hard), and Blue Reflection (being the easiest one ever even on the hardest difficulty)

The base damage values were amped up on both ends on the normal difficulties (Merciless is still a gamble as per usual however), but playing on Safety essentially nullifies that damage value difference. Like others said in this thread: of course it was easy. Royal definitely lowers the difficulty if you exclude said damage values. It's definitely less strenuous than the original game however, as you no longer have to make ammo packs with the guns reloading every fight, more options in optimizing Personae, and the lack of 1 item per day via itemization (and the better variant on Fusion alerts which can be farmed) which can easily give you the upper hand if you're savvy about it. Don't forget the DLC Personae as well being those early game breakers...

So yeah, this game is easier, but your difficulty choice did not really help with that. Golden was much lenient than the hell that was Hard on vanilla P4, like Royal is compared to vanilla P5. I think this game is easier because there's a lot more mechanics compared to the past two modern Persona games. The Baton Pass is that one game mechanic that shows that you can break the game if you're smart about your party/skill builds, only made easier if it's a second run compared to a blind run on Normal/Hard. I don't think there's a term for it, but it's like... More mechanics = easier game? Something like that.

Playing on normal and found out with strenght 5 you can craft everything above your level. This broke the game completely for me..

I got alice with Die for me. 0sp cost and high chance for insta kill on all foes. Well Rip game.

Some fusing later and everything was around lvl 80-95+ and prepared for every battle.

This game is way to easy but fun nonetheless.

Can't imagine playing this game on safe tbh😅

It's already broken when you can summon the free dlc level 90+ for 0 yen as soon as you have access to the compendium.

Okumura can go do one, definitely one of the hardest bosses I have come across so far. I had to change the difficulty to Merciless to let my status effects have extra damage to beat the green robots before the mega robot. Oh well in the Casino now so will see how the rest of the game fairs.

I just started playing this. Cleared out Palace #1, and the boss wasn't easy but more of a HP sponge even with an overpowered DLC Persona. (I admit I was using Ariadne Picaro, which is only Level 46, but still I killed the boss before Morgana could steal his treasure.) I was having a bit of trouble managing SP on the first visit as you do not get any SP restoring items and don't have any Confidants yet except Chariot and Fool. (This is the time when Ann gets kidnapped and awakens to her Persona.)

Using the trophy percentage isnt always an end all be all when it comes to games. First off, this is a trophy hunting website, so the numbers are skewed, the actual PSN numbers arent that high. Take Bloodborne for example, the psnprofiles plat percentage is pretty high for a soulsborne game, but its because 1) trophy hunting site 2) the fan base is very dedicated, thus more of them are eager to be completionists as they really enjoy the game. Same for Persona, there is a very strong and vocal player base, who, despite it being a long and tedious platinum, will still get it done.

I think you rendered most of your own points as moot with your entire argument. Persona 5 was easy, sure, and riding off of that popularity Royal was released. Maybe people who didn't pick up P5 opted for Royal instead as their intro to the series, so since Persona was becoming a more popular name at that time, its easy to assume that devs wanted to streamline things like trophies, for people who already played 5 and for those new players. Another point you touched on about optimizing personas...there is no optimization that needs to be done on safety, or even easy. you can pick your favorite personas and just steamroll the game no problem. I'm just not exactly sure what you were attempting to accomplish with this..yes, compared to Persona 4 and P4G, 5 was easier, but if you instinctively put a game on the lowest setting, you are hampering any sort of challenge the game will ever give you.

For it to be at 57% is a testament to the dedication of the community, how much they enjoyed the game and wanted to experience all of it all over again..not really that it was super easy. This plat percentage is high because the community loved the shit out of the game and the experience, not because it was 'easy'. a 15 minute Ratalaika and a 120 hour P5R are on two opposites of the spectrum, so it's really doing a disservice to the game to compare it using the psnprofiles platinum rarity rating

I want to state that I enjoyed playing Persona 5 Royal. The problem is one little piece of DLC...

EYylgZdXgAAQtun.jpg

Seriously. This Persona is the worst DLC in Royal. Thanks to this, I saw Izanagi-no-reason to use any other Persona. Add in Almighty Boost, Almighty Amp AND Magic Ability which increase Myriad Truths' power by 2.25x as well as Victory Cry which restores your MP after every fight and Angelic Grace to dodge anything that lives and you basically Game Over everything... and once you get to Level 40 and get Chariot Rank 7, you'll be Level 30 and can dash through every enemy in each palace and destroy them without fighting, getting a free Persona, tons of money and EXP and get even more high level. There's even a glitch in Mementos Depths which makes it so you get all of Jose's bonuses during the Depths and Qilpoth World, meaning you will get to Level 99 before the spoiler boss. Heck, I got to Level 99 before fighting Shido! The only things I couldn't insta-kill were those Level 99 mobs at the top of the Path of Da'at in Mementos that Atlus decide to throw it to screw you over, and even then, they are weak Persona that Myriad Truths can one-shot.

Myriad Truths is so OP that I got the platinum in a week instead of a month like I should have by making a great balanced team. Izanagi-No-Broken is the equivalent of Arceus in Pokemon - a move that one-shots everything and the means to use it against any type of Pokemon(Arceus's ability lets you equip a plate that changes the type of Judgement, its signature move, so you can make it Grass or Ice and bypass every weakness since its base power is so high).

What Atlus should have done is make Izanagi-no-Okami only unlockable in NG+ as a new recipe similar to Satanael. By then you are just there for clean-up... not like it matters. You won't need NG+ to get the platinum since all of the trophies can be earned in one run. Once I saw the ending and got my platinum, I deleted my save as I was too tired of this game to even bother with NG+ and I didn't care about fighting (La Spoiler boss) at the third semester of NG+. I did fight Jose without Izanagi-no-Joker(I used an underpowered Yoshitune) and had more fun than anything else. Of course, Mr. Doctor boss at the end of the true ending was still a struggle in his first phase as his own Persona kept soaking up damage and he kept healing.

Anyways, Persona 6 had better do a smarter way of challenging us.

EDIT: I know what people are going to reply with. "Don't buy the DLC, then." That's like saying "You feel dirty after watching porn. Don't watch the porn, then." It's there so people are going to pick it up, and once they taste the forbidden fruit, the game is over. No, really. You can't just tell people not to use something when they used it once. I know I am being petty by saying Atlus shouldn't have put Izanagi-No-Okami and Picaro forme in the DLC, but if you have the money, you will buy it and including it in a package will always include it. And it's always there because you can't delete DLC. There is always going to be a super-Mon that will make a monster-collecting game broken and too easy, and people will always go for it if it's accessible, that's the nature of the human beast. That said, if you don't like my whining, then fine. I just wanted to get this off my chest: I played through the first run of Royal without Izanagi-no-Okami and enjoyed it. I just bum-rushed the second time with Izanagi-n-O and just listened to the music and vegetated.

Anyways, that's my story and I am sticking to it. :P

It will never change m8, its how Persona games are, you have infinite HP/MP on Safe difficulty. If you can resist safe though, you can resist uber DLC.

It would be interesting if they put a difficulty trophy in, I would take that any day over the dispassionate listener trophies!

Yeah, definitely with ya there, matey. Hardcore Risette Fan and Passionate Lister are the worst trophy grinds ever - no way to track them and way too many. Had they been 125 unique lines, it wouldn't have been so terrible. Also, I am never going to touch Persona 4 Golden ever again - I get nothing from the PC version and the Vita is officially dead on September, when they shut down the PSN Vita store for good, so you can't get Persona 4 Golden original except on E-bay, and good luck not paying $1000 for a physical copy. xD

And as I said before, I know that it's a difficult temptation to resist and I failed to resist it. I did go through the first platinum time normally and enjoyed it. I also watched the voice of Jose. Jose is great. I wish they had made him a NG+ exclusive boss and upped him a bit and given a trophy for that, the "Senpai in Life" achievement as a silver trophy. I loved fighting him. ^_^

Shame he, Kasumi and Maruki are good as gone because Persona 6 will never reference Persona 5 stuff unless we get Persona Q3 for the Switch. ;) (I love Persona Q2, I want to petition for a Persona Q/Q2 collection on PS5 with trophy support. Call me crazy but I'd platinum that. Not happening though as those require the dual screens for the maps.)

To be fair you can overlevel everything in this game even without farming. Im about to start Shido palace and can insta-kill all enemies there and have over 2 million yen with no farming whatsoever, all I did was complete all requests and get all jose stamps.

Atlus just added to much stuff for the player and nothing for the enemy in this version. Just the changes to ammo and technical attacks make the game sooooo easy. Playing on hard without SP Adhesive and it feels like safe mode.

Really hope the next game is actually a challenge.
