One of my first plats, 100+ later, and haven't played a similar one. There definitely are some similar games out there so I hope someone responds. This game is an underrated gem, I wish it had more stacks so I could plat it again.

As @DiegoMolinams said, this is quite a unique (and awesome) game. The few I can recommend aren't clones, but share some similarity: Tesla vs Lovecraft (and the upcoming Tesla Force), How to Survive (PS3), Torchlight 2, and Transistor. Each of these games has a style of their own, so check videos to see if they look interesting to you.

Journey to the Savage Planet has similarities. Kitschy/campy themes. Places where you can fall a long way back down into previous areas. You might also appreciate Hob.

Not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but as far as winky/meta humor goes:

 

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and its sequel Blood Bath and Beyond (both PS3 only) poke fun at action games and the video game industry, while Zenith (PS4) does the same with RPGs.

 

I have a soft spot for the Matt Hazard games but your mileage may vary, while Zenith has some good chuckles but is just a little too much of a slog to recommend.
