Kena: Bridge of Spirits releases digitally for PlayStation 5 and PS4 tomorrow, but if you'd rather run the game off a disc and have a bit of plastic to display on your shelf, a physical version has been confirmed to be releasing in November. It will be provided in conjunction with Maximum Games as a Deluxe Edition that packages the game with the soundtrack and exclusive physical and digital items for $49.99. Pre-orders are being taken on the Maximum Games online store but the physical version will also be available for purchase at the usual retailers when it launches.

Bit nuts to leave the physical release off so late, surely Sony's backing could have paid for a physical release day one? Weird. Anyway, game looks gorgeous and some early impressions seem to be very positive so it's one I'll look to get on disk for sure.

Gotta profit from those sweet digital margins.

There seems to be a tendency here with most indies.

Ember Labs’ Kena: Bridge of Spirits looks to have the same magical qualities of a fantastical Disney-Pixar movie. Two new trailers revealed more backstory and gameplay footage, as well as a dynamic photo mode that has me incredibly excited to take pictures with NPCs (and I usually gloss over photo modes when playing games!). Additionally, a physical deluxe edition was announced in partnership with publisher Maximum Games.Β

Β

Kena: Bridge of Spirits follows the titular heroine/spirit guide as she travels to a distant land in search of a sacred mountain shrine. Spirits have been transforming into monsters, and only Kena can bridge the gap between life and death to make things right again. She’ll meet plenty of colorful personalities along the way, including sooty little anthropomorphic creatures called The Rot, which will aid her in battle. For more backstory details ahead of the game’s release, watch the launch trailer above or check out Marcus Stewarts’ Everything We Know About Kena: Bridge Of Spirits.
Β

The trailers are currently buzzing, meaning that you might’ve missed the news that Kena: Bridge of Spirits is also getting a physical deluxe edition in November. Ember Labs partnered with Maximum Games, a sub-publisher on titles like A Plague Tale: Innocence and Minecraft Story Mode. Priced at $50, this deluxeΒ edition will launch with a copy of the game, the digital soundtrack, and cosmetics for The Rot and Kena’s staff.Β
Β

"Our community was extremely vocal about their desire for a physical edition from the moment we first announced the game,” said Ember Labs’ chief operating officer Josh Grier. β€œIt’s an honor to create a game people want to add to their collections, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Maximum Games to make that happen so quickly after the initial launch.”

Still will wait for physical. But since its 49.99 USD, i expect 60-70$ Canadian.... whatever. I'm fine paying it, but just sucks its still almost full price.

Β

Hopefully its recieved well enough we get a larger scale sequel one day but for now im super excited to see reviews and such. Again, ill be waiting for physical in NovemberΒ

  • 2 weeks later...

I really enjoyed the game overall (just finished it last night.). I wish the bosses were a little more unique at times, felt like a lot of them had the same styling.Β The final boss fight was way cooler though.

Β

Not sure I’d give the game a 5/5 though, it’s far from perfect. (Which most games are so it’s not a big deal in itself.) A solid 4/5 would suffice.Β
