Resident Evil 8 Village

Announced earlier today as part of the Future of Gaming digital event, I’m incredibly excited to tell you that Resident Evil Village is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2021, setting a new standard for survival horror as the eighth main entry in the storied Resident Evil franchise.

 

Fear is one of our greatest motivations. The traditional themes of fight or flight (and, occasionally, to freeze) when faced with danger are natural to people even as we press on into the unknown, and most of us aren’t a stranger to the looming sense of anxiety that rises from a disturbing sound or a gloomy corner.

 

 

Both the great unknown, as well as our need to explore – and be fearful of or fight for survival against what we find – is innately human. It’s what drove our ancestors to create the myths and legends we hear about to this day… perhaps because what’s really out there is significantly more terrifying and deadly than any fable.

 

To that end, the team behind Resident Evil Village is using its expertise with Capcom’s in-house RE Engine to bring a truly next-generation survival-horror experience to PS5. You may have caught a few bits and pieces of how the engine is being used in the enigmatic trailer that was shown during The Future of Gaming, providing ultra-realistic environments and characters that inhabit a strange, snow-capped village. We’ll let you all pick apart the trailer and speculate on the finer details of what it all means, particularly the return of a Resident Evil mainstay, but rest assured you’ll be getting a next-gen experience that only Capcom can create.

 

 

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, go give it a watch – it’s time to dive into some of what you’ve seen in the trailer itself. If you don’t want to be spoiled, skip the next paragraph – we’ll get into some gameplay details afterwards.

Taking place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, in which protagonist Ethan Winters traveled to Louisiana to search for his missing wife, Mia, Resident Evil Village sees the reunited Mia and Ethan living happily together and putting their shared nightmares of the Baker’s plantation house behind them.

 

 

Finally able to move on from those horrifying events, Ethan’s world suddenly comes crashing down once again when Chris Redfield, an unexpected yet familiar face makes an appearance, setting off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village.

 

Unlike the cramped corridors of the Baker mansion in Resident Evil 7, the fear of dark corners has been replaced with the anxiety of the unknown as Ethan searches for answers within decrepit buildings among snow-covered trees.

 

 

The return of a first-person perspective will bring a visceral edge to combat, as well. Each encounter is a personal fight for survival against terrifying foes, forcing you to keep a watchful eye on the environment and constantly looking for resources and enemies in unknown territory. With a greater focus on combat and exploration compared to Resident Evil 7, the village itself is just as important a character as any other, a location with a life of its own that will frequently keep you on edge as you discover its secrets.

Chris i presume because he is the bad guy in this game. All rumors seems to be true.

I wasn't much of a fan of Resident Evil 7, but for some reason, this one looks way more appealing to me already. I would have preferred if they stuck to the third person camera of the remakes, but I'll give it a chance.

Him being the bad guy is perhaps a hallucination or something, the game looks a bit messed up, like not everything is real.

 

If he was genuinely the bad guy, Capcom wouldn't have revealed it so early. He's been in it from the start, there wouldn't throw it out there so quick if it was real.

 

It will be like the dark Rey in Episode 9 trailers, just there to throw us off.

 

If its not real, the way its portrayed, you may not get the real answer until the ending.

 

'His story comes to an end', they're not going to kill off Chris, it will be Ethan surely, I bet they wanna focus on the 3rd person games perhaps.

 

I do like Chris design in this though, they have listened to complaints and made him more like his early RE look!

 

Guess we'll find out next year though, damn, cant wait

I'm pretty sure we will get 1 more first person Resident Evil. RE 1-3 had fixed camera angles, RE 4-6 had 3rd person camera and i wouldn't be surprised if the RE 7-9 will be first person. I wouldn't mind them going back to 3rd person though as i prefer 3rd person over FP.

I think mostly every1 prefers the 3rd person, I think they sell better also.

 

May be why they are trying to kill off the fps if that is the plan, they have done this to keep us fans happy I guess.

 

Think we would all new a brand new 3rd person RE game with the engine which isnt a remake.

 

Whatever the leaks say about Chris killing anyone or him going bad or something else entirely, it could all be deception, a nightmare Ethan has, maybe its real, who knows, but it gets us all talking right

I'm not a fan it's still first person but not surprised it is. Environment reminds me of 4 but with the addition of snow. I'm just happy Chris looks like Chris again instead of the slimmed down imposter in 7. lol

They have gone to this effort to improve his look due to our complaints more in line with our perception of him, there is more to this 'bad Chris.

 

My moneys on the 'bad Chris' being a nightmare, alternate dimension or something, no way they would do that such a beloved character, and reveal it so early as well!! Just teasing us like dark Rey

 

I mean, we still have yet to see Chris playable in the 3rd person remakes!!

Looks awesome. Not a huge fan of 1st person games, and certainly prefer 3rd person perspective with RE games (just personal preference, 1st person makes me feel a little dizzy at times) but I’m excited about this regardless. One of the highlights of the reveal event for me

I'm glad they redesigned Chris to look more like he does in RE5/RE6. It's way better. Also, it's good that this is a next gen exclusive because it means they can be more ambitious. I guess I expected most third party titles to be cross gen like they were for the first year or two of the current console generation.

The setting looks pretty nice (not a fan of just the werewolf part but ok), those women that appear in part of the trailer gave me a feel of the vampire women from the Castlevania series and I liked it... And they came back to the "original" design of Chris (At least the one fo RE6 and not the one of RE7) so I'm happy with that.

 

Not happy with the FPV but ok... I'll deal with it...

So at the end of the trailer, did Chris pretty much just kill Mia (who I assume is the lady on the ground)? Also, Chris looks a LOT better this time around. This is the boulder punching guy I know and love. Although I hope this is the last time they drastically change his appearance. It's getting pretty confusing lol

I really hate the fact that everytime i thought it was a rumor but turned out to be true.

Capcom did really bad on the confidential work or they did it everytime on purpose.
