How to obtain a D50 pistol?

I want to get the D50 pistol to get the “Craft an exotic weapon” achievement.

 

The guide shows how to get the parts, thats fairly easy but it doesn’t show how to get the main item: the D50 pistol.

 

From what I understand its a rare pistol dropped by enemies (or bosses/yellow named enemies?) from certain missions...?

 

Questions:
 

1. What missions am I supposed to do to get the D50 pistol?

 

2. I can change the map where you can see weapon loot drops, can I earn the D50 pistol by going to the pistol loot area? How exactly does this work then?

You can go and play the area with pistol target loot. You might get it from enemy.

My suggestion would be to go after another exotic (well at least that is what I did as I couldn't get the D50 to drop, whereas my mate managed to get it to drop from a random enemy during a normal mission). I haven't played the game in a while so my info may be out of date but I found getting the chatterbox was much easier to do. That's how I got the trophy.

My friends and I found the D50 at the main white house vendors towards the front. I'm guessing its random, but perhaps check there every week when you're playing and maybe it will appear again.

I believe there’s an extremely reliable method that involves replaying 4 or 5 of the main missions Until it drops which it usually does on the first or second run I got mine on the 3rd mission 1st run. If I remember correctly you can play on story difficulty to.

Thank you. Playing as the Survivalist specialist seems to be important too. I watched this video before but the guy wasn’t being straight forward, lol. I took a quick screenshot of the missions list.

It's pretty much random.  A buddy and I did this towards launch and it was a pain.  Now, with target loot identified, you have a much better chance at finding one, but there is still RNG involved.  All you need to do is find the mission with sidearms (pistols) as a target loot and run those over and over again.  Preferably, on Heroic with a full party (more enemies = more chances for loot to drop as a "yellow").  Eventually, you'll get the D50.  Tell your party that you're looking for one and they may drop it for you if they find it.

 

I wish there was target loot when I did this the first time...

Oh yeah we did it with target loot and it must've dropped like 10+ times.
