Welcome back for another exciting edition of the Kill Your Completion series. This is the 13th iteration, so most of you probably have an idea of what goes on here, but if you are new to the site or this corner of the forums, here's the previous edition of the thread KYC 12.

 

 

Those of you that participated in or followed the previous events, know by now that Hemiak won't be running this event for a while due to life being busy. He agreed that I'd take over in the meanwhile, so you're stuck with me for the foreseeable future.

 

 

The Premise
Participants will each choose a list of at least 5, and up to 10 0% games (or any number in.between) from their backlog and post them here so everyone can follow along. These games don't have to be pre loaded on your profile, as long as you own them already and haven't earned a trophy they count. Participants will start a new game from that list every few days for the next month. They WILL then post their thoughts on each game, and write a short review on the final day for each game. This can take any shape or form each person desires.

 

I would prefer people do 5 games for 6 days each, 10/3, but anything between would be acceptable. I would like if people could be a little more prompt with their reviews. I understand stuff comes up. However, if every single review is three games rolled into one, 4 days late, you're not trying very hard.  I also like to see people get the minimum 3 hours per game, so I feel like more than 10 games would be cutting each one too short,

 

The starting time is hwnever the 1st of July begins for you.

Game Selection Suggestions
These are just suggestions, this will have no bearing on you being added to the event. These are just things that I think make for a more interesting selection of games overall.
- Variety is The Spice...: Try to avoid having more than 1 or 2 of the same type of game on there.
- Try Something New or Different - A list filled with AAA games/remasters that you've already played, from only two different series, is boring.
- Don't choose all games that all have average completion times under 10 hours: You're not fooling anybody. Sneaky participant is not sneaky.

 

TL;DR

• the event begins whenever the 1st of March begins in your timezone
• pick 5 - 10 games that are at 0% and play them during the respective amount of days (examples: 5 games/6days each ; 10 games/3 days each).
• Games have to be a 0%, no exceptions.
• don't pick only short and easy games, that's not the point of this even.
• post your list of games
• do yourself a favour and install/preload your games on the system. Less time wasted for patches to download, etc
• each game should be played for at least 3 hours total, throughout the X number of days allocated to them (equal number of days for each game)
• write a review/impression/thoughts on the game you played, before moving on to the next one (final review is mandatory, regular updates are optional)
• If you don't want to miss the start of the event, follow the thread.

Sure, what the heck.  I'll be nuts and join this twice in a year.  My list will definitely have much more reasonable length games this time around though since I'm still chipping away at the Tales of Symphonia plat from the last time around and I'd want to finish this list by the end of the year.

And probably the best variety I've had.  An action RPG, a VN, a beat em up, a point and click, and a turn based crafting type of RPG similar to Atelier games.  Most of them are around 20-40 hours as far as I know except Demetrios which is a quicker plat.  Might swap Demetrios for another point and click like Valiant Hearts: The Great War or if I'm feeling goofy I'll make you guys have to read a review on Pantsu Hunter: Back to the 90s instead.

I haven't gotten back to any of the games in March, never finished the recap and finally got past 72% completion today, so obviously I should sign up for this. Only five games and all of them being ones I really want to play so I actually play them on time.

I'm going to sign up for this, maybe it's what I need to break out of my current funk (haven't even turned a gaming system on this month).  Avoiding COVID and battling depression, a truly wonderful combination. I don't recommend it.  At least I still get up in the morning.

 

While I normally book 10 games, I think that will be a totally unrealistic expectation right now so I'll likely do 6 games which I'll post later, but one will definitely be Ghost of Tsushima since I actually pre-ordered it (only the 2nd game I've preordered for PS4, Dragon Quest XI being the other). I've really been looking forward to this, especially with the Samurai Cinema Mode which clinched the pre-order for me. 

 

I'll add the rest later this week.

I've redone my list a bit, as I've checked on the length of each of my games and I feel like there are a couple there that I would likely finish in a couple of days. So I've decided to add an extra one, making it 6 games / 5 days each instead of it being the other way around, as well as replacing one of them.  Unless PS Plus announces something I really want to play or the next upcoming sale offers something  I've been looking forward to, the following list should be my final one. Although I may end up switching teh order around.

@Kevvik The Evil Within is worth a play, all depends how many hours you stick in it because the latter parts of the game are quite different to the beginning. Salt and Sanctuary however I enjoyed immensely considering how terrible I am at Dark Souls type games. Definitely worth a good go (remember that upgrading the weapon you like is more important than health).

Game #1 - Ghostbusters Remastered - Preview

 

 

Developer: Saber Interactive

Publisher: Mad Dog Games

Genre: Third-Person Shooter

Price: 29,99€

 

 

First off, yes I switched out a couple of games again. I was on the fence of buying this, but since the new sale is somewhat underwhelming, I thought screw it and bought this one as well as Trine 4.

 

I have not played the PS3 version, but always kind of wanted to. So I guess this is the time to do so, as it's essentially the PS3 version without the MP component.

 

I vaguely remember watching the movies some time in the 90s and the cartoons as well. Don't remember too much about the franchise, except for a green slimeball with a huge appetite.

 

I've heard the game is a bit clunky and the AI is supposed to be pretty daft. So that's something to look forward to I guess. Other than that I'm just expecting a decent TPS, that has a somewhat original flair.

May as well post some starting stats:

I actually have finished 5 out of 6 games from the last event and the last game is sitting at 45% as of now.  Despite that I did regain all my completion since it was sitting at 96.61% at the beginning of the last event.  Probably won't lose quite as much as last time since I'm estimating I'll be able to finish 3 of the 5 games before the month ends.  The ones that are really up in the air are Mareniain Tavern Story and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes because I have no idea how long those plats take, just that they aren't stupidly long with tons of missables like Tales of Symphonia and Marenian Tavern Story is very stingy with trophies in the beginning and it's possible I may not get a trophy in it still.

 

First game is going to be Dark Cloud and all I know about it is that it's an action RPG that originally released on PS2 and has a pretty reasonable length plat and I've heard lots of good stuff about the series.  Never played it so this will be my first time playing a game from the series.  Should be fun, may be possible to finish before I move on to YU-NO, especially with its days covering my whole weekend (my current schedule has Sun/Mon off with a half day on Saturday.)

Bit of a last minute thing, but I wouldn't mind jumping on this if I can still sign up. I don't have much of a completion percentage to start with but the backlog of unstarted games is getting ridiculous at this point. Ones I think I'll jump on for this:

Figured I'd go for some more lighthearted games while I try to work my way through my Grounded playthrough of TLOU. Never played Jak and Daxter or Medievil back in the day so especially looking forward to those two. I figure they're both collectathons which should blend nicely with putting a few days into each. It'll also be my first time playing a Super Monkey Ball game so that should be quite fun as well.

 

The Darkness II I did play back in my X360 days and remember really enjoying it, so will be interesting to see if it holds up. At least with the cel-shaded art style it shouldn't look too bad. Last but not least, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture has been sitting in the library since we got it on Plus. I remember thinking it looked interesting when it first released, but everyone said it was too slow. Still, it should be a nice cool down game after work if I can just wander around.

It looks a lot worse than it is considering my completion percentage is the highest it's been throughout the entire time I've been participating in this topic series. Though I wonder how bad this would look had I not gotten those last four completions over the past two weeks.

 

Probably going to start with Utawarerumono first, but I won't start until Friday - it's a holiday weekend so I'll be off from work then.

Game #1: The Last Guardian 

 

I really don't know what to expect from this game. I'm not that big Shadows of the colossus or ICO fan, and since Last guardian is the new Team Ico experience, i totally forgot about it, but when i was searching for something to throw in the list for this event, i saw this buried under my backlog pile and thought, why not?!

 

Anyway, Last guardian is a game with some good reviews, apparently the relationship between the boy and the dog looking animal is amazing, but i see everyone talking about how bad the controls are, so i kinda waiting for some trouble if i decide to go for the platinum as it requires a no death run and a speedrun, but i'm curious how everything will turn out

 

So yeah, looking forward to cry a bit and rant about controls

I'd still like to actually get back and finish one of these completely but it feels like the longer I wait on some, the less likely it will be. Still, dreams are what keep us going.  I'll check in later on Valkyria Chronicldes.  I've just passed the point where I was years back on the initial PS3 version, so I'm heading into new territory though since it's been 10+ years since I played it the first time, it all pretty much felt new anyway.
