From my understanding, you have to link both your XBox and PS4 account to a Minecraft account. You can only do this once. Then any invites you get from someone playing on an Xbox will pop-up as in-game invites (aka you have to be in Minecraft to see them, they won't pop up as PS4 notifications) and you can join there.
