Free for PS+ July 2020. Any advice?

I'm not normally into basketball games (or sports games in general really lmao), but hey it's free, so I might give it a shot. Looks like there's only one trophy that's incredibly rare, and it's centered around cards? Like, it hasn't even been able to be obtained up until recently? I don't really know anything about this, so is there any advice for everyone that would just be starting out?

If you're going for the Plat, don't do it. And playing by yourself gets boring pretty fast. A good game to play with friends though! But yeah you're pretty far behind in the MyTeam content that you'd probably need to drop cash (cause let's be realistic, who tf wants to grind hundreds and hundreds of hours to get MT for cards, we got lives). Buying MT is an option (although it's not legal yet lots of people do it, so buy at your own risk)

If you want to plat the game then Ultimate Collector will require a lot of time and patience. if you plan on going for it then you will need dedication, even if you plan on dropping money into the game. There's a reason it's an incredibly rare trophy. All of the other trophies are relatively easy, essentially comparing it to the last few iterations of the game.

If you just want a good basketball experience then disregard going for the plat and just enjoy it.

A question about the MyTeam trophies where you have to win with a specific starting lineup... can these be boosted by matching with other online players, or does this mode only match you against AI? Thanks.

They don't need to be boosted. You literally just need 5 players from that specific division and can play a normal game against the AI. Once you have the players, it's an incredibly easy set of trophies.

there's literally a virtual casino in the game

What game are you playing??? There’s no casino. You have ball drops where you literally get a reward for every drop in both triple threat online and for locker codes. And there’s a vault that sometimes opens in triple threat offline. Where is the casino? Where is the gambling?

Okay so I've been playing it on/off for a bit - working my way towards the Platinum very slowly.

It's a bit of a grind but I think it's pretty much achievable, but you're looking anywhere between 60-100+ hours depending on your luck.

You're looking at 3 separate modes:

1) MyCareer

2) MyTeam

3) Misc. Gameplay

All the Misc. Gameplay can easily be unlocked with 2 controllers and some patience, just boot up a quick play and get those out of the way. Some of the harder ones - like 10 Green Zone shots, will come naturally once you get used to a player's shooting time/animation.

MyCareer has what I believe to be some of the harder trophies, lots of in-game stat dependent scenarios. I would suggest the best way to go about this is by doing the following:                                1) Find a playstyle you're comfortable with - whether it's the slasher point guard (my personal favorite) or just the unstoppable big man - there's a few builds on YouTube that you can check of what people run to get that illustrious Quadruple Double trophy.

2) Don't skip the prologue/training sessions - they're the best way to increase your badge opportunities that help give those little boosts

3) In the MyCareer menu, change the settings to the lowest Difficulty (Pro) and 12-Minute Quarters. This will give you more than enough time in each game to grind out some of those trophies, shots/steals/assists, etc.

4) Focus on one trophy per game while trying to get the best grade you can get - try to upgrade your stats in where you feel your lacking.

@Andrea9281 has some good points on tackling the MyTeam portion. To add to that I would also mention doing the following:

1) Play a few games a day, all these small progressions add up in the long run.

2) Similar to the first point -  log in every day for the daily bonus (there are free card packs on Wednesdays!

3) Utilize locker codes (which are short limited-time codes you can enter for freebies), there are websites dedicated to them - like this one.

4) Utilize the Auction House, any duplicates you have should be sold. Don't focus too much on 'completing' sets just yet, try to buyout the cheapest option or, if you have the patience, bidding for cheaper prices.

Sure, it's a huge time sink, but I think it's definitely doable.

No, there isn't.  I guess I haven't played every 2k game, though.

Just make a glass cleaning center and make him athletic.  It's easier to get a quad double with big men.  This is arguably the easiest 2K game to get platinum on.

Don't listen to all the negative comments in here. Most of them haven't played the game and are telling you what they have seen or heard so the information is likely false. They probably tried a 2k game on an alt for 5 mins and don't have the time/skill/dedication to go deeper into it. And they are too busy chasing all the bullshit plats to actually sink time into a game.

These 2k games improve year after year; I haven't don't one for a while but after playing 2k19 last year it was a massive step up for 2k16 which was the one I did actually plat before this.

So overall give it a go; you are in for a treat. Yes, the plat will be tough and time consuming if you go for it but you've already had some good advice outlined for you above if you choose to have a go at it.

You have nothing to lose, it's free after all.

Grind weekly challenges, triple threat offline, and everything in myteam. It takes up to 300 hours atleast. Also check nba social media, they drop locker codes consistently that unlock

Free cards. Just get ready for the grind. The mycareer is the easier part except for the quad double. My best recommendation is to grind offline since its easier and you get better rewards

The card collector trophy is a online dependent trophy, right? Are there any more online trophies to be worried about?

No, you need an online connection but you can grind offline against ai
