Platinum Rain Day - get ready for PS5 edition!

 

IMPORTANT: The event is over now, you can see the results here: 

 

 

With the PS5 on the horizon, let's clear our backlogs with a day of platinum trophies galore! Years ago I participated in a Platinum Rain Day, organized by @Dragon-Archon. Let's relive that magic and prepare for a day where the Platinum trophies rain from the sky!

 

How it works

  • We prepare games to the point where there is extremely little left to do to pop the platinum - buy the last upgrade, do the 1000th headshot, you get the idea
  • On Sunday, December 20th 2020 (right before many will get a PS5, but early enough so people are still available) we will pop our platinum trophies and spike our statistics!
  • You collect points per plat earned that day: 15 for PS4 games, 20 for PS3 games, 25 for Vita games (for multiplatform lists the platform counts on which you played the game). Earn special trophies to get even more points (see below)!
  • The bonus trophies are designed so you are encouraged to play games that you normally wouldn't, to add some variety to the mix.
  • Post a list of your planned (and ready) games in this thread, along with the challenges you have completed. Use the blueprint from this post. I will check your data and enter you into the competition / update your data.
  • All games can be entered, regardless of their current completion percentage. Also you can ignore DLC if you want. All that counts here are platinum trophies.
  • You may freely update your list while we go, the first list is not definite. There are no penalties for removing or adding games, the list is merely there to keep everyone updated on your plans and progress.
  • Signups are always open.

 

Bonus trophies - fulfill these special challenges to earn extra points! Bonus trophies can be earned multiple times!

Quote

  • The ABC Trophies (260 Points): Prepare 26 games with names that start with different letters from the alphabet (either by their official name or by their common name - "The Last of Us" can count as T or L, "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" is either T or S)
     

  • The small ABC (130 Points): Prepare 13 games with names that start with different letters from the alphabet.
     

  • Just a number to you (90 Points): Prepare 9 games with names that contain different 1-digit numbers (1-9). Each game can count only as one number ("18 Floors" counts as 1 or as 8, not both). Roman letters don't count ("The Last of Us Part II" does not contain a number digit).
     

  • Jack of all trades (50 Points): Prepare at least one game for five of these genres: Sports, Racing, Action, Story, RPG, FPS, Platformer / Jump n Run, Stealth. One game can only count for one genre here. You decide which genre applies to a game, but that might be challenged (don't say Crysis is a Sports game - it won't count)
     

  • Spot the difference (20 points): Prepare the same game twice - this could be an international version of the same game or a remaster (like Shadow of the Colossus on PS3 and the remaster on PS4, or the Uncharted Collection)
     

  • Sequel after sequel (30 Points): Prepare three different entries from the same franchise (e.g. Uncharted 1, 2 and 3). The same game on multiple platforms only counts as one.
     

  • Gathered dust (15 Points): Prepare a game you have started more than 5 years ago (earn date on first trophy counts)
     

  • Rarity Rewarded (10 Points): Prepare a platinum that has an "Ultra Rare" rating here on PSNProfiles.

I'll start with this list. It's not as long as I hope to achieve by December; I'll add more games once I decide what I want to play :-) I am mostly using this to clean up old games and threw in Dead Space because you also have it hehe, but I might be too scared. I barely got through the first time.

On the tab when you start a new post, in the second section the fifth item looks like an 'eye'

 

Once you click that, it does another window (a spoiler tag) within your post that hides everything until you click on it.

I just use several spoiler tags (like I edited my post) I did not know you can make it so that everything is hidden by default lol

 

Also, I've sat on Dead Space for years, just never got back around to it. Love BioShock, and if I can get through that, then Dead Space should be a walk in the park >.>'

 

Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of my proudest plats because of the combat challenges, Shock and Awe Extreme made me rage quit so many times. If you can get the combat down, you can definitely get that plat. Good luck on your list!

Got the Bioshock plat, it was a good one! But I was way more scared in Dead Space haha! It's been such a long time since I've played it that I have forgotten what's left to do for the platinum. But I'll figure it out :-)

Hey @JaM, welcome aboard! I'm impressed with your list, looks like this event came just at the right time for you :-) Plus you're adding cool new variety to the game selection - I haven't even heard about many of your games, that's interesting! I think you're at 160 points right now. If you update your list best do it in a new post so I see the update and can post it in the original post.

I think my problem is I start too many games at the same time and can never decide which to finish. Need to learn to finish games before starting a new one.

I have been contemplating lately if I should pop Mask of Truth Plat so that I will have the 3 Utawarerumono plat back to back. But I got a bit disappointed in how it ended so I decided to put it on my MRP list instead. Also added Asdivine Hearts II that I have been stalling (why did they have to ruin it and become harem? I dunno man) for a long time now so that I have a reason to finish the game.

Cool to see your progress, @JaM! I updated the list in the original post. I got my first game ready: Splinter Cell Blacklist. It's a really good game, way better than I expected, and I even enjoyed the online coop part of it. Cool cool! I also added Sly 3 to my list because I just felt like playing it hehe

Well, looked like I was pretty much done with Asdivine Hearts II when I stalled it... I guess I was too impatient with mashing :cross: to get through the harem. Wrapped up Arc of Alchemist as well - a game I bought along with Dragon Star Vernir on sale. The frame rate issue is not a huge deal to me tbh... It was weird game though, is the game a sequel to something? felt that I miss lots of stuff backstory and relationship-wise with these characters.- but the worst is, as usual, unnecessary grindy trophy :blah:

I have been wanting to buy Earthlock after seeing some positive feedback on it but I keep forgetting to purchase it when I have the funds. And of course, when I bought it at full price, it goes on sale(WTF, it is on 80% off??????) days later :rolleyes: It is fun game I guess, I just don't love it :dunno: maybe I am used to JRPGs that can get have 1 hit kill while going for grindy trophies...For Revenant Dogma... I have been wanting to play all of the Kemco games available on PSN and it is one of the last ones that I haven't played on VIta... It is not bad I guess, but ngl, I am kinda more having fun playing Chronus Arc atm.. and off topic... aside from Chronus Arc, what's left for me is Asdivine Menace on Vita... yay, more Harem <_<

 

Also, I guess I'll stick with 12 games on planned... I still need to pop some plats on Vita's Birthday so I might remove some in my current list.

I have started the second Alpha Plat Rain but i dont think i will be finished in time. I wish i had started earlier (especially since Ghostbusters had a perfect plat rain trophy ) but if i somehow complete it by the 20th of December I will plat alongside you 😁

Probably unpopular opinion... I enjoyed playing I am Setsuna and when I learned that Lost Sphear was from the same one that make I am Setsuna, I bought it when I saw it on sale... and well... I was underwhelmed. The story was so predictable and maybe that is just that I have seen a lot of JRPG plots at this point(I even have to skip some of the plot points and I didn't missed much). The gameplay is... well, became repetitive fast too...

 

Also wrapped up Asdivine Menace. I actually enjoyed it, maybe because it has lowered the harem part on this one. and with that, moving to PS4 Kemco games ^_^

 

Not sure what to play next though... I have started some games but nothing is making me want to play them(if that makes sense) - time to look at my backlog I guess.

Cleaned up some of the Kemco games I have on PS4 - I already miss playing Kemco games on VIta :|

 

Marenian Tavern Story is probably the toughest and grindiest Kemco game I've played so far... Don't be deceived by that cutesy design.

Legend of the Tetrarchs is actually interesting, it gives me early Dragon Quest games vibe. But overall, it is pretty average I guess, I might probably forget the plot of it by December 20.

Ara Fell might be repetitive at some point but I dunno, I really enjoyed it so much, maybe because I just miss the good old turn base RPG.

Hey there! Yes this event is still active @edolusill ! Sorry about my belated post, I accidentally got the plat for Bioshock 2 which I had been working on for a couple of weeks, and now it can't join my Rain Day collection. Guess that made me lose a bit of my motivation, but now it's back! <3  Will do Trübberbrook next because I know some of the devs and really should have played it long ago hehe
