Popular Post Kristen Danielle
Hi, guys! My friend @Copanele has a thread about his gaming experiences on this board and although I have been updating on my progress through my statuses, I thought I would make a topic here with my collective experiences, reviews, and thoughts as I play through the Resident Evil series since I will be earning 100% on each game. I have played some Resident Evil games backwards, sideways, and upside-down and there are others that I haven't played at all, so I feel that it will be neat to be able to look back on what I took away from each game in this more permanent thread. Now, before I begin, let me take care of my first and most important obligation. *SPOILER WARNING* Okay. Now that that is out of the way, first up on my list was, of course, Resident Evil 0. Platinum #1: Resident Evil 0 (HD Remaster) DIFFICULTY: 3/10 (Easy), 4/10 (Normal), 10/10 (Hard) ENJOYABILITY: 7/10 FEAR FACTOR: 4/10 (First Time) 1/10 (Subsequent Playthroughs) DO I RECOMMEND? Yes This game was, for a long time and mostly because I hadn't played anything past RE1, my favorite game in the franchise. Let's talk about the good things first. The number one thing that I really loved was the chemistry between Billy and Rebecca (in the cutscenes) as the game progressed and Rebecca discovered more about the former US Marine and alleged murderer she had first encountered on the train. Billy is extremely multi-faceted and I find him to be a character that Capcom could have done so much more with had they tried. From his outwardly cynical and sarcastic attitude that we see him exhibit in the beginning of the game to the way his face is marked with anger and pain when he tells Rebecca the truth about his past, the guy is just a spin-off story waiting to happen. I remember being so heartbroken for him during my first experience with the game and I took a liking to his character so much that I thought his story deserved a better ending than the canon ending for Zero. I decided at that point to write a new ending and that short story that I began in 2011 has now evolved into a 44-chapter (so far) novel in which Rebecca helps him to clear his name. Rebecca's innocence and gentle strength is the perfect complement to Billy's rough-around-the-edges style and to me, the character pairing just works, for lack of a better explanation. Plot wise, the story really takes Resident Evil back to its roots, not only showings the player the origins of the T-Virus, but giving them a disturbing look into the mind of the man who first created it, Doctor James Marcus. The look into this character is accomplished via the reading of various files that are strewn about, with each one more sinister than the last. I sometimes think that files are one of the things that Resident Evil does best. As for the bad things, there were really very few. When it comes to Marcus, the only thing that bothered me was the young/reborn version of him. He had command of the T-Virus infected leeches, but for some reason, Capcom chose to illustrate his power over them by having him sing strange, opera-like incantations and the player was forced to watch as the leeches danced along as they followed the tune of his song. It was just completely absurd and in my opinion, it ruined the immersion every time a scene featuring his singing played. Marcus was also laughing maniacally (the old "MUAHAHA" kind) and using phrases like "the world will burn in an inferno of hate," just before you fight him in the final boss sequence and to me, that sounded WAY too "supervillain" for my taste. As far as the gameplay goes, the idea of having two characters to control and using their different strengths to solve the puzzles was a nice addition and made for interesting bronze trophies in my opinion, but inventory management in this title is a hassle. While you do have the two characters and can drop any item anywhere to pick it back up later, the game also lacks item boxes and as such, you have to lug everything around with you when you move between main areas. It was also kind of a pain that your partner character had to be standing very close to your active character in order to exchange items between them (even though such a requirement makes logical sense). I am almost certain that I spent more time with inventory management than I did shooting zombies. The interact command is also slightly annoying because while it works well on doors and taking items for the first time, it's extremely picky when you're trying to pick up an item that you have previously dropped on the floor. This has been established as a known issue with the game, so it certainly was not my controller. Finally, the Leech Hunter mini-game was downright annoying in every way, but these few things are the only real complaints I had. As Zero is a classic Resident Evil game, one can expect the graphics to be similar to those of the REmake since both were originally released on Gamecube. Hard mode was exactly what it claimed to be, but I eventually accomplished it (without a single bullet left over) to get my platinum. If I could remake this game, I would revamp Marcus entirely and make him much less "MUAHAHA" and much more sociopathic, perhaps adding a mental breakdown to his character that is brought about by the isolation he subjected himself to. I'd also add item boxes and have a few second scenarios that show how Billy makes it out of the forest near the facility and how Rebecca makes it to the Spencer mansion. THE GOOD Billy's Character and Story Dynamic Relationship Between Playable Characters Excellent Files Good Plot Classic RE Feel THE BAD Poor Inventory Management Interact Command Isn't Sensitive Enough Older Graphics THE UGLY Marcus' Opera Songs Leech Hunter OVERALL RATING: 8/10 STAY TUNED FOR MY REVIEW OF RESIDENT EVIL (1)! PSXtreme_
One of my most memorable gaming moments came with Resident Evil. Back in the 20th, I had rented the original. Me and my roommate were working thru the game, the lights were down low, the dogs were napping on the couches and we had a bowl of popcorn between us. I entered the hallway near the beginning of RE1 and had the dog leap thru the window... at that point, the popcorn went flying..the dogs went flying...general chaos happened. Hand to God....

Kristen Danielle
Wow! Okay. It has been far too long since I've written anything in this thread. After beating Resident Evil 0, I kind of forgot about this thing while playing through Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 and then after that, I was a bit burnt out on video gaming in general and needed a break. I've only just gotten back into it and have now platinumed Resident Evil 3 as well. This post will cover the Resident Evil 2002 remake, which I played via the PS4 HD Resident Evil Origins Collection. Platinum #2: Resident Evil (HD Remaster) DIFFICULTY: 1/10 (Very Easy), 2/10 (Easy), 4/10 (Normal), 6/10 (Hard and Real Survival), 7/10 (Knife Only Run) ENJOYABILITY: 8/10 FEAR FACTOR: 5.5/10 (First Time), 1/10 (Subsequent Playthroughs) DO I RECOMMEND? Yes What can I say about the game that started it all? As I did with Resident Evil 0, I'll start by mentioning the things this game did well. To begin, I really enjoyed the character development in this title. While I must admit that I never got to experience the shock and awe that likely came with discovering for the first time that Wesker was evil, as I was too familiar with the franchise in general at the time that I first started playing it to be surprised by that reveal, I absolutely favored Wesker over Marcus as a villain. While Marcus was entirely possessed of the "MUAHAHA" supervillain personality, Wesker was calm and nonchalant about his evil intentions and I found his attitude to be a great deal more sinister and effective in displaying the callous disregard for human life that Umbrella Corporation exhibits on a daily basis. Second, like Billy and Rebecca before them, I also loved the chemistry between Chris and Jill. Despite the fact that there were very few scenes in which they were together, it was made obvious in the opening scenes that Jill cared very much for Chris' wellbeing and he for hers. Barry's professional and supportive relationship with Jill and how it is influenced by Wesker later on was also well done. Lastly, I LOVED the addition of the V-ACT process and the crimson heads, as this upped the fear factor for me considerably. I have diokophobia, which is the fear of being chased (even if what is chasing me means me no harm) and as this was my only real video game experience with that up until Mr. X came to town in Resident Evil 2's remake (I've never played the original), it really increased my enjoyment of the game. The only thing I found a little silly was Wesker's penchant for sunglasses at all times with no exceptions, but that has become such a classic joke for series veterans that one can't really complain about it. Plot wise, I thought the story was a bit circular and I normally don't like games in which you find out that the person in charge or the character that you trusted the most is the villain (such as the original Assassin's Creed), but I feel like Resident Evil handled it better than most. In making Wesker both a villain in his own right with his own agenda and a player in a larger organization that can and will be expanded upon later, it manages to avoid the feeling of pointlessness that such games usually give me. Now, when speaking of the gameplay and game mechanics, I loved the classic feel and all of the puzzles that one has come to expect in the older Resident Evil titles, but if I could criticize one thing, it would be the lack of continuity between the Chris and Jill scenarios. Unlike what Resident Evil 2's remake would do later, even the best endings of the two different scenarios were depicted so differently that I have seen many new players taking to the internet to ask series veterans who actually survived the mansion incident. As one scenario depicts Jill, Barry, and Chris and the other depicts Chris, Rebecca, and Jill, some players were unclear on the actual canon outcome of the game. However, even if I tried to think of more, that little issue is probably the only thing that I really found wrong with or annoying about this game. Real Survival mode was a cakewalk compared to Resident Evil 0's Hard mode and the knife only run and invisible enemies run were not all that bad (mostly because they could be done with the difficulty set to Very Easy), so I have no complaints there, either. The only thing that was slightly difficult was the no save run, especially when Lisa Trevor knocked me off of the platform near the end of the game and I had to start all of it over again, but all in all, it was a great experience and I was able to do eight playthroughs to get the platinum without too much trouble. The only thing I could even think to add, if I could remake it, would be to have a little bit of a DLC in which the relationship between the Chris and Jill scenarios is explained for newcomers to the series. THE GOOD Character Development Wesker's Attitude Plot Puzzles Classic Backtracking Feel Crimson Heads THE BAD Lack of Continuity Between Scenarios THE UGLY None OVERALL RATING: 9/10 I PROMISE I WON'T WAIT FIVE MONTHS FOR MY NEXT ENTRY TO THIS, GUYS! Kristen Danielle
Thank you! ? My arm and shoulder are killing me tonight or I would have already written the ones for RE2 and RE3. AJ_Radio
You were gone a while, but that didn’t stop you from getting Resident Evil 3 done. You going to do anything that is non horror? The next horror game I will be doing after the Resident Evil remake is probably The Evil Within. The same guy who made Resident Evil made Evil Within. Kudos to him for doing Vanquish, awesome cover based third person shooter.
