Boosting Thread Removal Project (forum clean-up)

Message added by Beyondthegrave07,

Be wary that this is low priority and is something I typically clean up in my free time so if you notice that I have not gotten to your post in a month or two, do not fret. I will get to it eventually. :)

It would be easier if we could just search for times the sessions URL were posted or the URL for the "What to do if you want to boost" was posted

EDIT: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/search/?&q="psnprofiles.com/sessions"&page=1&start_before=1597190400&sortby=relevancy idk if this link works for other people, but a majority of these threads are boosting threads. Not sure if you want me to copy and paste each link individually.

Hmmm. Some of these are showing a 503 Service Temporarily unavailable error. For some reason... Anyone else have this issue? FYI, I was seeing this error BEFORE I started deleting anything :P

Any particular format needed or can we just post the thread?

Magicka 2 thread submitted for removal

Any format is fine, but I may need to set one if it gets a little hectic.

Huh, this makes deleting some of these tricky. I already deleted a few of them, but the message I get for those are different. I'll try getting on my laptop later and see if they appear there.

Yeah, I don't know.

When I was editing my post randomly they would change to normal and back to that message. I thought it was because you were already deleting them and then realized it was a glitch.

Hi everyone,

I noticed that there were a lot of old boosting threads (I mean, A LOT) that were simply locked by myself or another mod instead of being deleted all together for various reasons. I'm wanting people to report these here in an attempt to clean up the forums a bit and make it easier to navigate.

Reason:

I know what some of you are thinking, why not just report these using the report button? The reason for this is to avoid overcrowding the queue. These are low priority, and I would rather contain it to a thread than overwhelm all the mods with reports.

Rules:

- Do not report any threads less than a week old. This is for OLD threads.

- Do not report individual people asking for help in unrelated topics - Report those using the report function.

- Do not report group boosting threads (i.e. the crew, Drive Club, etc.)

- Do not shame people or talk down about people who made said threads. That's griefing.

- Do not discuss boosting threads in general here. This is to clean up the forums only and get rid of the clutter. Off topic banter will likely be removed.

- Do not report other threads needed to be deleted here. Report those.

End game:

Ideally, the goal is to be able to get rid of this thread over time as we work together to clean up the forums and make it easier to find important game-related threads.

I want to remove posts after I have taken care of them, but if too many people are offended by this or don't think it's a good idea, I will leave them up. Regardless, you'll still get a +1 from me ;)

Anyways, thanks for the help everyone!

As the threads doesn't have important information for future viewers I thinks is okay but mostly of them don't have. I like the idea :)

Have a great day @Beyondthegrave07 and keep the good work you always do!

If you really wanna clean up the forums, all the boosting threads need to be completely removed (soft delete in case of sensitive db).

Locking them is a waste of time, and they still show up on the sidebar on trophy lists.

Locking them also allows the person to find boosting partners who find the threads in the sidebar of the game anyway, thus incentivizing them to create more boosting threads

At least, it made me think seriously about creating one and just letting it be locked.

The only reason why we don't always do this is because the person normally just makes another thread of the same thing unless we send them a PM to stop. Therefore, locking it saves us time because we are able to redirect them with a quick link, and it doesn't take up PM storage. Lately, I've just been locking because I've been busy with work and other stuff.

Give a warning point that expires after maybe two weeks. Not so much to actually give them a warning point, but so they'll actually 'notice' the instructions, and then delete the threads immediately :)

Edit : here's a thread:

That's more diplomatic of my solution of feeding them to the tigers.

Here's some more threads (most of those do not have the sessions link in them so they won't be duplicates of the ones I posted above):

Or just replace the text in the thread with one of my helpful Disney Parodies :)

Why is it necessary to have boosting threads on forum? Delete all of them. And new forum members must be informed about Boosting session when they sign up

It's not necessary. People don't read the rules and post them anyway. That's why we're deleting them

"Do not report group boosting threads". Will all boosting threads be deleted?

Oh, I see what you mean now.

There are a few boosting threads that were created and allowed to stay as "official" boosting threads, like this one: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/19275-minecraft-ps4-official-boosting-thread/?page=7#comment-1192801

There's not many like that, but yeah those will stay. They are usually for very popular games and I think the idea was that it would cut down on the individual boosting threads
