A type of enemy scaling on steroids that automatically keeps enemies within a difficulty range and then lowers enemy difficulty until it becomes easy enough for any player as needed based on if they keep dying I really hate enemy scaling in games anyway. This sounded awful. Have I misunderstood something? There's no difficulty setting that you can choose from. Some areas are easier than others, and some bosses are huge difficulty spikes in terms of raw game play. I didn't hear about adaptive difficulty for this game, and I never felt that was the case either. But I could be wrong. As the story and game progresses you can upgrade Jesse with other abilities. If you don't upgrade the enemies will get harder and harder, as they will do more damage and have more armor almost requiring you to get health and energy upgrades. Before the update that was the closest you had to a difficulty adjustment. The harder you want, the less upgrades you get. The problem was that the more upgrades you had didn't mean the game was going to be easier, just more manageable as the enemies will always be on par with you. sirdavid89
Hi! So using those options doesn't block any trophies? 100% confirmed?

It can be used for the entire game pretty much. They are gameplay options that you can toggled on and off at any point in the game.
Cryogenicide_X
I wonder if Xbox version got the same patch. It's okay, I saw the trailer for this update and it's for all systems. Edited September 2, 2020 by Cryogenicide_X
Pelotedeneige
I am not sure about all the statements. The Workplace Recreation trophy seems to be blocked. I played one game in the Arcade Mode, I lost (didn't see any mention that I have to win) and I haven't unlock the trophy. I think the Assist Mode disables the trophies. Edit : I won and get the trophy, that popped very late. I assume just playing isn't enough. Edited September 3, 2020 by Pelotedeneige

Glad you sorted it out.
AlvinoMartin
One hour into the game, I still dont get the trophies for hitting 3 enemies in the same time with a single launch and attaching grenades to object and launching it to an enemy. I did that several times. Are those glitched?

Do you have the correct ability where you can pick up 3 separate items at one time using L2? it’s not just hit 3 enemies with one item
Eternal21
Thanks for confirming trophies pop with that on. Turned it on half-way through the game, after I fell down and had to replay a large potion, because of silly lack of checkpoints. I don't enjoy playing it, and just want to be done with it as fast as possible.

I would agree with this is trophies meant anything at all. No effort platinum cash grabs, multiple stacks, instant unlocks, paid cheat codes all ruined trophies a long time ago. I don't mind it either because I hunt trophies for my own enjoyment and don't care what other people get.
xh117
Only annoying thing is your screen still turns red from low health in God mode. What's the point of lowering your health at all in a god mode. I'm glad the option exists though because parts in the dlc with the light puzzles would have sucked without it. Above the God Mode checkbox there are 3 sliders, one of them is for damage reduction. Turn that one all the way to 100 and you won't be put in that red state.
yowzagabowza
I got 100% on PS4 before the cheats were a thing but I'll definitely use them for my PS5 playthrough. No need to put myself through the difficult parts a second time.
DarlingDari
yes, for some unknown reason assistent mode doesn´t disable the trophies. I played the game normal (it´s not that hard) but in the DLC later at the end couldn´t beat the Arcade Mode so i looked for tips and found out there is a god mode. Seriously i didn´t know that was a thing in the game. Maybe they added the mode later via update?! I got the Arcade Trophy while in god mode and i´m ok with that

Because 'Assist Modes' are not the same as 'cheats'. Assist modes exist because in the last 10-15 years, there has been a growing (entirely welcome and long-overdue) movement towards making games accessible for gamers with disabilities. That has manifest in a variety of ways, from the earliest and easiest to understand, (like custom subtitles in games for the hard-of hearing, or large-text menu options, or colourblind modes in games,) to different input devices that can connect to medical accessibility equipment (Microsoft's custom input controller, for example, which is - frankly - a piece of product engineering genius,) and now, customisable gameplay-assist modes in games. Assist modes are a way for gamers with a variety of additional support needs / physical barriers to enjoy the games able-bodied/ neurotypical people have always been able to. (Look up 'Ablegamers' for some info, or for a pretty good discussion, refer to Noclip's podcast, where Danny O-Dwyer interviews Steven Spohn.) They are there to level the playing field for people who's interaction capabilities are bespoke/ different. Disabling trophies would, therefore, be counter-intuitive, as well as a really shitty thing to do. That would basically be saying "yeah, you can buy and play the game like 'normal' people - we'll take your money - but don't expect us to reward you like we reward them..." The fact that people who do not require the assist modes can then exploit them to get the trophies more easily is, of course, a byproduct of all this - but... so what? A person can pretend to be disabled in order to use the disabled bathroom. That doesn't mean there's something wrong with the bathroom... You don't take away the wheelchair-accessible ramp just because someone lazy won't use the stairs. If someone exploits assist modes in their games for easy trophies, the only person they are really cheating is themselves - out of a fun experience. I doubt they are really getting much personal satisfaction from that trophy anyways. They know what they did. There's no need to shame them of course - there's no bad thing you can say about them the've not said when they're alone. busypwnin123
I just speed ran through this game since I already did it on PS5, and got the fastest time for 100% on the PS4 edition! 9 Hours and 24 minutes. Assist mode made this super easy and fun lol.

Eraezr
If cross-save was a thing across the generation ports, I wouldn't bother with assist mode. But I'm too lazy to go through that initial struggle and hussle all over again to get Jesse fully-loaded so I will be using it. dieselmanchild
I’m always on the fence when it comes to these sorts of things. These assists didn’t exist when I platinumed the game, but they definitely came in handy a couple weeks ago when I got the Ultimate Edition on PS+ and got a chance to clean up the 100%. They make a lot of the kill related trophies less tedious. Every player will have to decide for themselves if and how much they want to use these cheats, but personally I wouldn’t recommend relying on them too heavily. Control is a pretty neat little game, and the combat scenarios are one of the best parts. But overuse of the cheats like god mode and 1-hit kills will very quickly turn this game into an incredibly boring and tedious experience. Just something to consider.
Eternal21
I used the cheats because I didn't like the game. But they absolutely should disable trophies with these enabled.
