The Binding of Isaac: Repentance DLC

Quote

Edmund McMillen has revealed The Binding of Isaac: Repentance, a "mega expansion" for The Binding of Isaac, described by McMillen as "basically a sequel"

In a blog post on Steam, McMillen provided an overview of the new DLC, noting that the expansion is "bigger than rebirth was to the OG flash game."

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was a 2014 remake of 2011's The Binding of Isaac, which brought a huge amount of new content to the game, and saw it ported to current-gen systems. This comparison speaks to how much of a sizable update Repentance will bring to the game.

McMillen added that the game is "currently over 90% done" and tweeted that a release date for Repentance hasn't been pinned down, but that the team think that "end of year is still doable," which suggests Repentance may arrive before the end of 2020 if everything goes well.

More updates about Repentance will arrive in late October, with news about how Repentance will work with the console versions of the game coming soon. You can check out the Steam store page for Repentance here, which adds that there will be "130+ new items, 25+ new bosses, 2 new playable characters" and a "full alternate path with brand new chapters and a new final boss and ending."

Here's our review of 2017's The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+, which we scored a 9, noting that it "adds more to what we loved about the original."

March 31st!

But is that for pc only? If so, mega sad face

Yeah, it's still coming to consoles this year from the sounds of it (and as confirmed by the trailer) but only PC gets it on the 31st March.

Hopefully the extra development time means the trophies won't be buggered for months :)

What I've seen so far it looks like they could've make it Isaac 2. There's so much new stuff. I can't wait to get my hands on this expansion soon enough. These are the moments when I wish to be a PC gamer, the wait for console versions is painful. I think I've said it enough times already on other topics, but Binding of Isaac is my favorite game of all time. I have completed all 3 save files on PS4 and 2 on Xbox One. I don't even wanna know how many hours I've spent with this game :D

But I really hope there are new trophies.

I don't see a reason to not have new trophies. Afterbirth and Afterbirth+ both got new trophies.

From what I've seen of the update on Twitch streams, I'm going to be totally fine with leaving the game incomplete. Not keen on doing...

Spoiler

...everything over again—including the horrendous Greedier modewith 17 terrible alternate versions of the characters. I can feel the vomit welling up in the back of my throat just thinking about it. Then, there's the co-op character (Jacob and Esau), which I'd be stuck doing awkward solo runs with. The design philosophy of McMillen and company continues to perplex me.

I think 700 hours of my life was enough.

Ive been playing Repentance on PC and the new characters are not that bad. Some are very broken. Bethany + Unicorn Stump is an auto win. But here's the best news. There is a true co-op mode (up to 4!) and you do get unlocks for all characters, better yet, only 1 of the characters has to live for it to count on all 4. So if you think playing thru on 19 new characters as well as the 2 new endings for the old 15 was gonna be a chore, now you can just cheese the whole game in co-op. To make things even sweeter, on co-op bosses drop 1 item per player, but you can pick up all items on 1 making your runs very overpowered.

New update for the game just added 7 new trophies, so i guess we're close to the release.

I can't believe we need to spend 100 hours, if not more, on the game again, for just 7 trophies. This DLC is basically a whole new game. Wish they had added a new platinum list, like Monster Hunter did with Iceborn.

I really want to know what is updated in the ps5 version. I don't really wanna pay $40 more for that version if its largely the same. The binding of isaac isn't a super graphics intensive game, so the SSD wouldn't really be necessary.

You're essentially getting the Complete Edition with all the DLC included, plus whatever graphical and performance improvements the devs decided to make.
