New Platinum Trophy Value and Trophy Level Formula

OK, formula done. It becomes quite regular at level 200, so it was easy to figure out from there. As an example to illustrate it being correct, I have 1064 platinums, 6738 golds, 9884 silvers, and 18080 bronzes, for a total of

300*1064 + 90*6738 + 30*9884 + 15*18080 = 1493340 points

The first 60 * 99 = 5940 of those points got me to level 100.

The next 90 * 100 = 9000 of those points got me to level 200.

The next 450 * 100 = 45000 of those points got me to level 300.

The next 900 * 100 = 90000 of those points got me to level 400.

The next 1350 * 100 = 135000 of those points got me to level 500.

The next 1800 * 100 = 180000 of those points got me to level 600.

The next 2250 * 100 = 225000 of those points got me to level 700.

The next 2700 * 100 = 270000 of those points got me to level 800.

The next 3150 * 100 = 315000 of those points got me to level 900.

After all of that, I have 1493340 - 315000 - 270000 - 225000 - 180000 - 135000 - 90000 - 45000 - 9000 - 5940 = 218400 points left over. Since ever level after 900 requires 3600 points per level up, I should have 218400/3600 = 60.66 extra levels. And indeed, I'm at level 960 and 66%.

So with this formula and if it continued with the same trend past 999, someone like Hakoom would be what? Level 1360?

Sony just wants to do what they can to get people somewhat invested in the trophy system to establish some kind of brand loyalty.

A system designed for hardcore trophy hunters is not only pandering to a group that is firmly entrenched in your ecosystem, it is also just a bite (if not a crumb) of the gamer demographic pie.

Yes, easy and fast plats certainly benefit from the new system more than they used to, but the percentage of gamers who buy these kinds of games to inflate their trophy levels is such a small percentage of the overall gaming populace that I doubt they are a blip on Sony's radar.

Numbers have gotten bigger and plats are worth more. Not much to get either excited or upset about IMO.

I am not against change. I'm against stupidly unnecessary and detrimental change, which this is. All they had to do was remove the cap for super high-levelled people, and adjust platinums for rarity, so the rarer an obtained plat is, the more you progress.

They did neither. ?

Hakoom has 2687*300 + 17124*90 + 15899*30 + 48471*15 = 3551295 points under the new system. 1634940 of those points are used to get to level "1000" (yes, 999 is the actual cap), leaving him with 1916355 points. Assuming that the next 100 levels each require 4050 points, then 4500 points, then 4950 points, and so on, he would be at level 1404.

I've synced my trophies several times now, but it hasn't changed. Is there a problem with this for some people or has it simply not updated in certain areas yet? I'm on the west coast in California.

It's updated on my PS3, but not PS4. I also still have friends in the 30s and others showing in the 500s.

My guess is that it's not fully updated yet for everyone across all systems.

I see where I did the bad math on my end. Still a very fun numbers game to me though.

Yeah another vote for "this update is pointless". After 12 years an update is more than welcome. But not like this

Shame, really a missed opportunity to give the trophy system a new layer of paint, just in time for the PS5

It's a disgusting update. But the good thing is that I'm gonna give up chasing the leaderboard from now on.

If it makes you feel better, if you 100% every game you have on your profile right now you'd be like 808. And going on how everything is inflated with the new system, you still would have been far from 100 in the old system.

It's impossible to 100% everything because many games got shut down and I don't have ps3 anymore. I can get to level 100 easily in the old system. But this new system, it's impossible to get to level 160.

Just looked up my account using the old PS3 API since it shows # of points, it says I have 108,150 points which would suggest a platinum is actually 315 points unless other trophies changed too.

What do you mean? You have 36 platinums, 263 golds, 904 silvers, and 3104 bronzes, for a total of 36*300 + 263*90 + 904*30 + 3104*15 = 108150 points using my formula. Everything matches up.

Whoops, used 32 plats instead of 36. 300 is correct

My only problem with the new system is that levels are going way to fast.

People with 10 plats and less than 1000 trophies are level 200+, its insane.

4 bronzes for the early levels mean any "normal" game can give 20+ levels...

It also means there are some rare cases, where it's possible to have a higher level than your total amount of trophies

Okay thanks, I guess it'll update whenever it updates. Sony's not really doing the best job informing when, where, and how this will kick in.

Seems PSNTL updated their formula to exceed 999 and is getting a different level for people that would be above 999 than what the current formula would do.

Yeah, looks like they're just using 3600 points per level past 1000, rather than upping the amount by 450 points per 100 levels. It's not necessarily *wrong* to do it that way... but it's certainly the worse of the two options, in my opinion.

I agree as there is obviously an established pattern before the cap is met, so continuing that pattern once exceeding that cap would be the more logical thing to do. But it could still be a nice reference for those higher level profiles, even if it is slightly inaccurate.

Also we were both off on Hakoom, just double checked and you had it at 15899 silvers instead of 25899 silvers. So it'd be like 1455 level.

The real problem in this change is that none of the problems that previously existed are really solved, there are people who are still at the limit of the level, in fact most of the tops still have the official maximum level ... that is to say  was this change made to fix that problem?  or just to have heavier numbers and get attention?

The people at the top i s allready hooked. Now more casual players will probably become trophy whores. More addicts will generate more cashflow.

Of course we focus on that, as that is out interest.

No, you're focusing on demeaning EZ plats and think that Sony should do something to address your concerns about the "quality" of platiums.

Trophy Hunting? More like gate keeping.

The intent of this topic makes sense to me, everything else not so much.

But I question whether old customers will suddenly become interested in trophies due to the level changes, and I question whether new customers will be lured into the ecosystem because of a trophy system which has a duplicate in MS. I guess we'll see?

Sony is making a fuss about it. Gamers that are up to date on news from Sony are aware of the Trophy change. It can result in 3 outcomes; increased interest, decreased interest, and no change in interest among gamers.  Sony would prefer the increase but interest not changing will not hurt them either. People honestly being turned off by the change? That could be a problem for the folks that would leave the Sony ecosystem over it.

We'll see? Seems to be more of the same here. Some people making a big stink about personal nitpicks, exaggerating their position online, then 9 times out of 10 whatever the internet was complaining about becomes a success in the real world but we'll see.
