Update as of May 31st

Bit of a slow week, mostly played Bioshock 2.

Worked on and finished my Hard playthrough, got my online rank up to 40, became and killed a Big Daddy, and rescued a Little Sister.

That effort all paid off in a shiny new platinum!

Now I have to wait for my Ultimate Rapture Edition to arrive from eBay before I can tackle the grind to rank 50, play on the new multiplayer maps, and do the other DLC stuff.

I also helped out in a session getting a buddy the "Get an online Form of 1" in Split/Second. In return I was granted the viral trophy! All online trophies for that game are now in the bag, leaving me a nice single player game.

Split/Second: 27% -> 28%

BioShock 2: 56% -> 67% :platinum:

Back at it again! Got some good completion done this month, but not a lot of PS3 platinums. I have a feeling June will be more productive, but I did at least get one! And it's been haunting me for a while too.

Assassin's Creed III

Waaaaaaaay back in 2015 I went on a huge Assassin's Creed kick, and I played them all in a row, from 1 to 3. I was super burnt out on it by Revelations, and 3 was so subpar that I couldn't stand playing it any longer. Learned a lesson there about powering through game series, but I finally went back and did it! All the online, all the alternate reality DLC, it's finally done. I'll be honest, this is the weakest of the series so far, and it's not by a small margin. The Revolutionary War is such a cool concept for something like this, but ultimately it all comes up short. Barely any notable historical characters, a pretty weak story that feels rush, combat being a complete joke, it's just not very well done. Oh well, at least now I don't have to worry about it anymore!

This also doesn't have any trophies so I'm not going to count it, but I played The Darkness. Pretty good game! I had really low expectations but it was honestly a really interesting take on a mental health-focused action game. I'm planning on getting the plat for the sequel, so maybe that'll happen this year too? Hard to say. At any rate, it was fun to play a game on the PS3 without trophies again, and just get reminded of that whole era of gaming once more.

Hope everyone else has been doing well. Can you believe we're already over halfway there? Five months left until we're back at November where this all started. Have you guys gotten through a big chunk of your backlog? Or have you been trying to knock out slower, but harder games instead? Whatever the case, I hope you've been enjoying this event! Good luck on the second half, this is where the real fun begins.

Just re-started the game and felt like you 8 years ago. Maybe I am less critical nowadays but I kind of like the laid back gameplay. And I love my tomahawk. But have to agree with you that this game could have been much greater.

Unfortunately I don't have much to offer. Try to do them whenever you see them running around? Instead of just leaving them all for the end, I mean. Also, make sure you're always on your horse when you're running around the Frontier, since that requirement to fill out the map for it will be a bitch otherwise. For whatever reason, when on your horse, it makes you fill up more of the map. Otherwise, just do your best. You got this!

So this month I've finished one game, and put a big dent in another.  I would be finishing Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time, but I'm getting burnt out on playing through it and I just don't think I care enough to wipe it out right now.  Think I'll finish it in a couple months,  Below are the updated percentages for the games I've gotten through to some extent during this event without 100% or getting the platinum.  Additionally, my updated list (if you can call it that) with my completions scratched out, is in the spoiler.

Disney Epic Mickey 2 - 55%
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time - 65%

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon - 25%
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - 47%

I've also done little bits here and there on other games, but these are the most significant jumps without finishing.

April update:

Pretty slow month as i had been researching and panic buying physical games before they got expensive or the psn store would get closed, which it didn't after all.

Batman Arkham City 76% -> 79%

Singularity 28 -> 30%

1 game added this month: Battlefield 3  0%

 May update:

Finally after almost 5 years i got the platinum that was hunting my nightmares ?

Batman Arkham City 79% -> 93%

It will have to stay at 93% for now as i am not even thinking about doing the challenges again with 3 characters for just 6 bronze trophies. The amount of time and effort needed is not worth the reward.

Other than that, a slow month for ps3 but i will get back to backlog hunting asap.

Mays Little Update

Classes got a bit harder and tedious so I haven't got much time to play, just been relaxing on the weekends playing with friends instead of focusing on trophies. Saying that, one game I play a lot to relax is Minecraft and recently got the platinum for it, it is currently standing at 77%. Also got a bit of progress on Sound Shapes, including the plat, and it is standin at 44%. So yeah, 2 plats on this month.

For June I will need to finish Heavy Rain, as I need to return the controller I borrow to a friend, so it's a race against time as mine controllers are broken and one I got earlier this year turned out to be a fake one.

Haven't updated my list but here it is as the last time I posted here:

May 2021 Update

Previous Update:

Last Update as of 05/01/2021

Total Games on List: 45

New: 1

Eliminated: 3

Completed: 15

Added and completed only 1 this month. Killer is Dead is my 2nd foray into Suda51's PS3 action games. Likes it less than Shadows of the Damned, mostly because it was very nonsensical. I got my hands on Lollipop Chainsaw and No More Heroes which both seem to be better in almost all respects. Might make one of them my next milestone platinum.

I will be bold and aim for 10 completions in June. I plan on completing the Gaming by the Numbers event with PS3 games exclusively. Maybe with a bit more motivation, I can reach the halfway point.  Included should be Ratchet: Deadlocked, Sly Cooper: Thieves Time. Might sneak a LEGO game in there too. Who knows! Wish me luck! :)

May Update

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (7%) -> (100%) :platinum:

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (5%) -> (55%)

Resident Evil 5 is all done now, including the DLC. Versus is a heck of a grind on PS3, glad to have that done with forever. The game was otherwise a lot of fun to play through again. BlazBlue is getting worked on now since it's my remaining incomplete PS3 game with online trophies. It's my first fighting game too so I expect to be stuck on this game for quite some time. If I get through it, though, things will be mostly smooth sailing for a while.

Also picked up some new games this month, both physical and digital.

Physical Games (May):

  • BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
  • Get Fit With Mel B

Digital Games (May):

  • Super Hang-On
  • The Revenge of Shinobi
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Monster World IV
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World
  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast

Grabbed BlazBlue Calamity Trigger just in case I decide to start collecting BlazBlue platinums at some point. We'll see if that actually pans out after the hell that Continuum Shift puts me through for plat, but might as well grab the game while it's still dirt cheap on the used market. The Mel B game was intriguing to me as I enjoy both PlayStation Move and exercise, so combining them both seems like a win to me. The game is also dirt cheap and you can get it sealed on eBay right now for under $10 shipped. Should be interesting to give the game a proper playthrough at some point and write about it. The digital game purchases are basically me trying to clean up SEGA games I haven't purchased yet. I love old SEGA games and collecting trophies for them too, so it's easy to justify the purchase for me.

Current progress on incomplete games

Quote

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (55%)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2%)
Catherine (55%)
Demon's Souls (47%)
DJ Hero (10%)
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (26%)

Started LBP2 thinking I will wrap the game when servers are alive. Found out leaderboards are not two days later...

In the end I never synced and effectively locked one of my PS3s until it either gets fixed or i decide to delete profile.

Then Fall Guys glitch appeared, random MK X Invasion appeared too and here I am.

No progress on PS3.

Hi everyone! End of May update, and I have a fairly reasonable amount of progress to report:

Final Fantasy XIII-2 [22%] -> [100%][Plat]

Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space Episode 5 - What's New, Beelzebub? (Unstarted) -> [100%]

Vessel (Unstarted) -> [100%]

LittleBigPlanet 3 (Unstarted) -> [62%]

Making my total progress for the event:

Anna: Extended Edition (Unstarted) -> [100%]

BioShock 2 [71%] -> [100%][Plat]
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (Unstarted) -> [100%][Plat]
Doom Classic Complete (Unstarted) -> [100%]
Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires [95%] -> [100%][Plat]
Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Unstarted) -> [100%][Plat]
Hyperdimension Neptunia [48%] -> [61%]
LittleBigPlanet 3 (Unstarted) -> [62%]
Mass Effect 3 [80%] -> [100%][Plat]
MySims SkyHeroes [20%] -> [27%]
Retro City Rampage [28%] -> [100%]
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space - Episode 1: Ice Station Santa (Unstarted) -> [100%]
Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space Episode 2 - Moai Better Blues (Unstarted) -> [100%]
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space - Episode 3: Night of the Raving Dead (Unstarted) ->[100%]
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space - Episode 4: Chariots of the Dogs (Unstarted) -> [100%]
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space - Episode 5: What's New, Beelzebub? (Unstarted) -> [100%]
Vessel (Unstarted) -> [100%]
X-Men: Destiny (Unstarted) -> [100%][Plat]

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was remarkably fast to finish (for an RPG, anyway), but hunting down all 160 fragments to get the platinum took a bit of time. The monster recruitment was interesting, and in theory gives you a great deal of customization over your third party member, but in practice was always much weaker than my two main characters until postgame because of difficulties in getting the right upgrade materials in sufficient quantities. Also, not to spoil the ending, but I didn't like it and I think they left a bit too much for the final game in the trilogy.

In the final episode of Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space they decided to use up the insane moon logic they had been budgeted for the project, because these puzzles were definitely crazier than the others. While I never had to resort to an external guide, I did have to turn the in-game hint system up on two occasions.

Vessel, on the other hand, kicked my butt. The first area was slow and boring, the second and third were just right, and by the time I got to the fourth, final area I had to use video guides to make any progress at all. It was like a x^3 curve.

I saw that people were earning the LittleBigPlanet 3 online trophies again, so I decided it was safe to finally start the game. And then the servers went down again a few days later. But at least I got the mandatory online trophies done first, so all I need to worry about is getting a couch coop partner for the DLC and one of the base game quests. As this game is notorious for being buggy I had a scare that one of the trophies had glitched on me, but it turns out one (or more) of the levels I thought I had completed in 2 player I had only played in 2 player, and so using the in game score table to keep track of my progress led me astray.

I'm not sure if I'll make much if any progress for June - I want to get Borderlands 2 done next, but I'm playing the PS4 version, so that won't count for this event.

April - May update:

I can only complete these 2 games in two months, BOII zombie DLC's are a pain (and some base game trophies too), but I enjoyed a little playing with others, buried EE sharpshooter step was intense... And Origins I'm proud to say that I get it alone, after a lot of runs, the robot head button and g strike step in the succesful run was accomplished third try on round 16, so the rest of the run was pretty smooth, except that I lost my last quick revive trying to turn on generator 2 to PaP a Mark II and without Quick Revive almost died like 3 times on the crazy place doing the last step. It was intense!

June Update:

Alright, so originally my PSNow subscription was to end tomorrow but I decided to extend it on account of it going on sale recently plus it just being a good service to me overall. As such I'll be participating until the November deadline, hopefully I'll make more progress than I did last year and maybe I'll add more games as I get more done! Anyways, onto the part that matters, completion!

Spoiler

Complete:

Mirror's Edge

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in time (0%->100%)

Started but not complete:

The Last of Us (15%)

Devil May Cry (30%)

Bioshock (56%) [100% unattainable due to my inability to buy the DLC]

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (61%)

Sonic Unleashed (63%)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (73%)

Metal Gear Rising (29%)

Fallout New Vegas (1% lol) [100% unattainable due to my inability to buy the DLC]

Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One (0%->78%)

Not Started:

Metal Gear Solid 2

Borderlands
Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault (To be removed from my list)

Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

Sly Cooper: Thieves in time

Devil May Cry 2

Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 4

Fallout 3

Nights Into Dreams

Red Dead Redemption

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic CD

Sonic Generations

Ico

Resident Evil COde: Veronica X

Not a ton, yet again, but some good progress on the Ratchet and Clank series! I'm removing Full Frontal Assault cause I have 0 interest in playing what is essentially a 3D Tower Defense game, but I'll replace it with Ico. I'll also replace DMC4 with Resident Evil Code: Veronica X cause apparently DMC4 doesn't have a PS3 trophy list. I think that before I move onto starting any new games I'll do some work on cleanup of games in the Started category. Looking forward to what'll be coming in the Summer months, and as usual, good luck to everyone!

APRIL

  • Yakuza 3: 75% > 79% - Finished Coliseum and started both Ultimate Skill and Ex-hard playthrough
  • Defiance: 52% > :platinum: (58%) - Managed to platinum this before the server shut a couple of days ago but the dlc are all glitched so no chance at 100%
  • Fallout 3:  0% > 2% - Just started

I spent the majority of time in April working on Defiance. Originally when I heard the server was closing, I wasn't sure I wanted to invest the time trying to get the plat. The last few server closures I've tried have left me with incomplete games, so I was reluctant to put all my time into another one. Thankfully there was enough time and people to get this done at a reasonable pace. Trion, who pretty much abandoned the game and its issues, even assisted by increasing rep earned and gifted players with extras. Looking to try my first MMO, I started this back in 2013, but feeling overwhelmed and lost by it all, I gave up and moved on to something else. Coming back to it now with a bit more experience, I still felt the elements were hard to wrap my head around. The game was ok - not bad but not great. A little too repetitive and not enough incentive to keep grinding away. I jumped online for the last hours before the closure and found a whole bunch of players gathered at one spot. I found this game had quite a dedicated community. People were in the chat talking about how much they loved the community and what the game meant to them. It was actually pretty amazing to watch right before the game shut and became no more.

And with that, I have my 2nd plat for the year. Started Fallout 3 and continuing with Yakuza 3 now. I've also dived back in to Black Ops zombies trying to finish these trophies, but I am really not good at this game. It's going to take a while.

MAY:

  • Yakuza 3: 79% > 89% - Finished ex-hard playthrough and started the mini games. Pool is done!
  • Sacred 3: 25% > 44% - Finished the online co-op playthrough and earned some of the other misc trophies. Still trying to complete deity playthrough but seems almost impossible solo so Ill have to find another partner for that

Bit more of a quieter month after smashing out Defiance for the plat before the server, must be a little burned out after that one. I may start NFS: Most Wanted due to almost every other NFS game on Ps3 is having their servers closed. Surely can't be long until this one goes as well (if not at the same time with no notice as its EA). As the event has reached it's halfway point, I don't know if I will get through as many games as I wanted

Completed:

  1. Bioshock 2 :platinum:&100%
  2. PoP: SoT :platinum:
  3. Defiance :platinum:

Managed to finish Zone of the Enders HD & Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner from my PS+ backlog. I didn’t know much about them other than they are regarded as Kojima’s mech classics from the PS2. They were pretty cool, especially the 2nd game which massively improved over the first one and was a lot of fun to play.

Also managed to finally finish the grind to level 50 on Max Payne 3. All I’ve got left is the NYM & NYMHC arcade modes, which I am planning to attempt this summer when I can set a nice block of time aside to live and breathe that game for a week or two.

And in the meantime, I’ve started the long forgotten Game of Thrones RPG. In terms of graphics and gameplay, it’s pretty atrocious and looks like a damn N64 game. The trophy list is a pain in the ass too. However, for big GoT fans like myself, the main appeal of suffering through this game is to experience the storyline which was written by George R. R. Martin himself. The ASOIAF wiki says it is not considered canon, but I’ve read the opposite in other places so I’m not sure what to think. Either way, it intersects directly with many things from the show ans books. All the characters featured from the show are voiced by their respective voice actors too, which is pretty cool and definitely make it feel like it’s canon.

I've also done little bits here and there on other games, but these are the most significant jumps without finishing.

(List)

There are loads of games you have where you can finish in a couple hours or so. Do you still own all of these:

Altered Beast

Back to Bed

Beyond Good & Evil

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

flOw

Goat Simulator

Journey

Kung fu Rabbit

rain

Sly Cooper 1

Sound Shapes

... as well as several games that aren't that difficult, just longer.

Finishing these won't take too long and that backlog can slowly decrease :)

Good point.  There's two of those I just don't seem to like enough to wrap up (sly cooper and altered beast) though you're not wrong I shouldn't postpone the easiest set I have. I'll have to look into redownloading some of these and mowing through then this week : )

Update as of June 7th

Quite a lot got finished this week, both in terms of 'whole game' and 'part of a game'.

Kicking off an old favorite game was Borderlands 2 - Torque's Carnage DLC. Only a handful of side quests were left open but my gear was simply not up to the task to get it done without multiple attempts (looking at you Bar Brawl). Eventually got the help of a friend and knocked out the last missions.

It's now sitting at a satisfying 100% completed!

Dante's Inferno got a tiny update: got 4 star ratings on my Trials, and found someone to do the EA trials with. What a doozy they are.

Split/Second has 12 episodes, with 6 races each. And I've completed the first 4 episodes, knocked out a few of the misc trophies. Unlocking cars gets you faster vehicles, but so do the AI opponent. Returning to an earlier race with a faster car therefor doesn't get you an overwhelming advantage!

Tekken 6: Brings back memories of good 'ol game nights with friends.

Knocked out the last of the Scenario Campaign stages. The 4 hidden stages were greatly satisfying to complete, if a little tough.

Finally managed to kick Azazel's ancient Egyptian ass to the curb and conquered the Arcade mode. Yay to Jin's unblockable move to take out massive chunks of its health.

BioShock 2's Ultimate Rapture Edition finally landed on my doormat, so the Adam boosting could continue. And finish. This wraps up the multiplayer of the only BioShock game with multiplayer trophies. Now only Minerva's Den and the Protector Trials stand in my way to 100% completion.

Lastly, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed got some playtime. Trying to get Team Sonic with 4 controllers is a little challenging.

The online isn't completely dead, but you'd have a tough time getting the related stickers. For some reason invitations don't always work either.

The shortlist:

- BioShock 2 (67% :platinum: -> 77% :platinum:)

- Borderlands 2 (92% :platinum: -> 100% :platinum:)

- Dante's Inferno (97% :platinum: -> 98% :platinum:)

- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (42% -> 48%)

- Split/Second (28% -> 50%)

- Tekken 6 (67% -> 81%)

Update V – 07.06.2021 – 3/17 completed

It has been a while since I posted an update, mostly because I didn't make a lot progress for this event. Since my last update I started Fallout 3 and I'am totally in love with this game, even considering adding Fallout New Vegas to my PS3 backlog. I also started Dead Space 2 but I am not yet sure whether or not  I will sync it to my account because I don't feel much urge to do another two playthroughs after my initial playthrough on "insane" – but we will see.

Event Backlog (3/17) finished (8/17) started:

Spoiler

Started:

- Fallout 3

- Deus Ex: Human Revolution

- Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

- Dead Space 2

- Demons Souls

- Resident Evil 4

Not Started yet:

- Catherine

- Remember Me

- R-Type Demensions (100%)

- Bionic Commando: Rearmed (100%)

- Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 (100%)

- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

- Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (100%)

- 3D Dot Game Heros

Completed:

- Split/Second ✅

- ToeJam & Earl (100%) ✅

- ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (100%) ✅

Apart from the PS3 games counting towards this event, started and completed quite a few PS3 Remastereds on PS4. While those games don't count towards the event progress, they do for my personal PS3 backlog and so I decided to list the PS3 remastered games I completed since joining the event separately (this way my progress doesn't look that skimpy).

PS3 Remastered on PS4:

- NEED FOR SPEED HOT PURSUIT REMASTERED (100%) ✅

- SNIPER ELITE V2 REMASTERED (98%)

- DARK SOULS: REMASTERED (11%)

- RESIDENT EVIL 5 (46%)

Altered Beast you can cheese so much. You can save at any point you like and reload for trying to get the Level 3 Zero death trophy. Gimme a shout for the multiplayer game sometime when I'm back home and that'll be done.

Sly can be done quite quick, I'd say do it on small chunks (like an hour) and it'll be out of your hair in no time :)
