Popular Post mvpeast
I don’t know what to say about next gen game prices other than I can’t afford them. I will be playing old games only. But I am very curious to know what you guys think about the new prices. 160 bucks for AC Valhalla ultimate edition. That’s not including tax. So two games you can buy a next gen console. https://imgur.com/a/hhU9gxc
Popular Post pavelbagirov
Terrible prices. Will buy most of the PS5 games on sales.
Popular Post darkrequiem7
Even though I could afford them, I'm not going to. Until Sony starts moving back into a direction I can appreciate I'll just be sticking with my PS3 and PS4. There's plenty of games I haven't played yet or can revisit before I make a decision about next gen consoles. I haven't even played a game on my Xbox One S yet (I use it for Netflix and 4K Blurays). I'm sure the MCC is all fixed by now, right?
saiyanbloodstyle
But the good thing is, game prices will devalue over time so you'll get it cheaper later on, for now stick to PS Plus or PS4 games that offer free upgrades to PS5.
Popular Post ItsWhooper
I'm not too worried bout the prices. Sure it's an increase but it really depends on how badly you want to play the game. In Canada where I am it's only a $10 increase which doesn't really surprise me just because everything seems to be going up in price too. I typically don't buy games at launch unless it's a must have game. I expect a good chunk of the exclusive games will eventually become free ps+ plus. I'll grab AC Valhalla too at some point but not at launch. AC games tend to go on sale pretty quickly after release too. Picked up Odyssey like 3 months after launch for $30.
Popular Post Darling Baphomet
Yep, that's inflation for you. Unfortunately if you're American, prices keep going up, but wages stay the same. This is why I only buy things on sale. Within a year you can usually get a game at least 50% off, and if not... meh.
Bloodytears1666
Dunno, I gave up buying new games long ago, PS4 prices wasn't that affordable. Anyway for my needs this is not a big problem, buying new games only on disks and if it is something worth to my collection. Otherwise can freely wait month or more. Honestly see prices rise as a natural flow, since they really get progress in development and logically shouldn't cost at least less than current games.
Popular Post Kinokee
Your screenshot shows the game for $80. $200+ for collector editions of the games are nothing new for this generation that started long time ago. Next gen only games; not built for ps4+ps5 might be priced around $90 though. But if it means the people don't need to become slaves to their jobs and can make some cool creative stuff I'll pay the extra $10 for a game.
Popular Post EdinhoN
The last day one game I've bought was GTA V on ps3 (definitely worth the $60 paid), however I don't bother with releases anymore, if a game is good, it will still be good in 2 years when it gets on a decent sale. Moreover, the videogame market is getting more inflationated than ever, I'll vote with my wallet and give companies the less money I can while maximizing how I play on next generation: definitely aiming at digital and retail rentals more than on ps4 generation.
Dauersack
I buy most games on sales anyway. I think out of all my PS4 games I only paid full price for 2, and deluxe price for another 2, everything else was free on psplus, on sale or just reduced due to the age of the game. If I ever get a PS5 it will be years after it released when they drop the pro version, and by that time I will have dozens of psplus games to play and many games will be much cheaper. I doubt that there will be many upcoming games I actually consider buying at full price, especially since the prices not only went up but the ever increasing monetization turn the purchase price of the games into an entry fee anyway.
JoaLoft
Well, that settles it. If I'm buying a game, I won't be getting it at launch, no matter how amazing it might be. I feel like they cross a moral threshold with standard edition prices of €80 and up. Looks like I'll be doing nothing but bargain shopping in the next generation.

Caesar Clown
It's Assassin's Creed. By this time next year that version will be $50. No one says you're forced to buy games at launch.

Then what is he complaining about. The game is 70 or 80. Buy that. A CE is a different matter entirely
dzstrpc
If using the preorder prices of Godfall as a template PS5 games in Swedish store will cost, in US$ Standard Edition: $97 Deluxe Edition: $120 Ultimate Edition: $132 No Thanks!
Popular Post Conor
I'll support the standards I want to see- complete, made with care and without microtransactions? I'll pay full price new. Ripped apart, cynical and loaded with extra costs? Fuck off, bargain bin for you.
Popular Post NathanielJohn
Some major rounding up happening in this thread. That "almost $200 game" is the ultimate edition (not the base game), and it costs $120 USD. The prices in OP's screenshot are Canadian dollars. The price of Valhalla Ultimate Edition is literally no different than the price of AC: Odyssey Ultimate Edition, which was also $120 USD at launch (and in fact is $120 USD right now).
Deceptrox
If you think that's expensive you should check the price of PS5 on other countries. In my country the price of the upcoming console is almost $1000. No way I'm paying that, I wasn't going to anyway since later models are more likely to have better performance and less issues. About the topic, that's the reason I rarely buy games full price or right when they are released. Last time I did that was with Spelunky 2 which at $19.99 is a steal. If things were like they used to be on PS2: including all content in the disc since launch, or by adding future content in updates or free DLC, I wouldn't mind buying more games at full price at launch. communistwookiee
Seems like some people on think that "AAA full price" games are the only thing out there. There are more mid-tier games now than there ever have been that offer content comparable to "AAA" games at 50-75% the cost. Popular Post xBenlander
$160 for a special edition game. If you buy the standard edition then it's only 10 bucks more than they use to be. Don't make it seem like it's out of control when you're talking about a collectors edition compared to the standard edition.

Spider-man Miles Morales Standard Edition costs $73 in Swedish store. That's the cheapest PS5 preorder game.
