* on Xbox Series X|S, all our Xbox One games will be backward compatible. On PlayStation®5, all games will be backward compatible except the following ones: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy Pack, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Russia, Risk, Star Trek Bridge Crew, Werewolves Within, Space Junkies.

The wording on the store page for these titles says:

Quote

When playing on PS5, this game may exhibit errors or unexpected behaviour and some features available on PS4 may be absent. To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

Whereas all compatible games say:

Quote

To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

So, if you have these games and are planning on platinuming or simply playing them, do it before you get rid of your PS4!

A little bit strange, considering it is the only one of the main titles of the series that is mentioned in the list. Glad I already completed it.

I have been thinking recently to play it. I just set it to download.

I still have Syndicate on my PS4 Pro and still need to play it.

Will try it on PS5 and if it gives issues, I'll have to continue on the PS4.

It's only a few games (like 10 I believe) out of the rest of the selection of games, you can't really blame Sony for failing backwards compatibility when they don't develop all the games.

If a PS4 game is going to be almost impossible to play on the PS5 or some features in a PS4 game will not work on the PS5 then its not fully backwards compatible. In other words, that list of 10 games is bullshit.

Seriously, XBOX has been doing a fantastic job going backwards compatible and then you look over at Playstation and its just fuck up after fuck up.

Sad fact

I think My Name is Mayo will be compatible on PS5.

So the thing about there only being 10 incompatible PS4 games on PS5 was bullshit then...

Sony really did fuck up when they choose the Cell architecture for the PS3. If they had gone with anything else available at the time, they would be even further ahead of MS right now.

I highly doubt it. The Cell architecture isn't stopping Sony from emulating PS1 and PS2 games on PS5, but they still aren't doing it. PlayStation's CEO Jim Ryan clearly doesn't care about backwards compatibility with old systems given the comments he's made in the past. Microsoft's approach to BC is completely different.

I wasn't just talking about backward compatibility. Sony had the emotion engine and software emulation in PS3 days, when they had no problem implementing backward compatibility and needed to because they knew there wouldn't be a lot of games for the PS3 for a long time because of how difficult it was to develop for.

Sony using Cell was a fundamental change and massive hurdle for developers to get games on their platform. It was a massive bottleneck that took them until the PS4 to overcome. Had they not made that choice, then the fundamental technological architecture of PS3 and PS4 would have been more in line, like MS's was/is. MS's approach to BC can be different because it's an apples to oranges comparison.

Doubt away. Take the time to understand the technology differences between Sony/MS's hardware at a fundamental level and you won't have to doubt.

I wonder what specifically about Syndicate doesn't work well for BC. It seems a little odd considering all the other main titles are ostensibly working.

And Sony has done a much much better job than Microsoft of delivering great First party games. Most people buy new consoles to play new games and not old ones. Sony clearly has a huge advantage there. If backwards compatibility were such a huge selling point then the Switch and PS4 wouldn’t have demolished the Xbox One. So clearly Sony’s strategy is focusing on brand new games which sells consoles. If the PS5 didn’t have Backwards compatibility, it would have probably still outsold XSX if Sony kept up the amazing First party games coming this gen.

You are speaking facts right there, tbh, if you wanna play PS4 games, play them on a PS4. If you wanna play PS3 games, play them on a PS3 and so on.

In my opinion, a new console means a new generation of games, and you need to keep the previous generation of games on the previous console unless they are crazy successful in which case the developers should work on a remastered version which would have new features, higher resolutions & higher FPS.

Well this list alone is 8 out of your 10 games. That leaves only 2 for everyone else.

Wow, big deal. I highly doubt this will affect more than a handful of individuals in a 7 year span.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is a pretty substantial AAA game to not work on the PS5, if what Ubisoft is saying is true. Jim Ryan is a fucking clown.

This video shows what happens when Assassin's Creed Syndicate does when played in BC on PS5. It is at the 8:11 mark.

thats why im keeping my ps4 pro still. even tho ps5 is BC, id say majority of my ps4 games i still plan to play, will be played on my ps4. Aside from Persona 5R and Tokyo Xanadu.

But i am buying a new console to play the new games... not ones i can already play on my ps4 pro.
