Cross-Platform Games to have 2 Lists / PS5 Auto-Pop Game List

That's a damn solid theory, though. Hadn't considered that at all. Maybe it's time to get the labcoats on and get to the bottom of this.

This is a mess... I was concerned that going from 4 to 5 might “reset” progress by adding a new list. Maybe I’m not fully understanding so I’ll ask this...
 

I was saving my Ghost of Tsushima NG+ play through for PS5 since it’s getting a boost in graphics and performance. If I do this will I then have 2 lists? PS4 Ghost and PS5? Or is this situation only directly in relation to the game being dual released at the moment?

It will be only one list you will be fine to save it to play on the ps5.

It looks to me like PS5 versions of PS4 games must use a separate trophy list. This is probably because they need to be coded in order to take advantage of the fact that PS5 can trophy system can track individual trophy progress (e.g. 5/10 collectables...), which has never been done until now despite being the case on Xbox and Steam for many years.

 

From what I understand, PS4 games can be patched so that they run better on PS5, such as raising the frame rate cap and improving load times etc, but these games will still be running as PS4 games via backwards compatibility on PS5. I think this is the case for games such as Ghost of Tsushima, God of War 2018, God of War 3 Remastered, and The Last of Us Remastered which have all received new patches recently on PS4. Continuing these games on PS5 with your PS4 save will carry over your trophy progress using the same list.

 

However, games that receive PS5 upgrades, so that they can be played as native PS5 games with instant load times, DualSense support, activity card support, and so on, will need a new list as they are essentially treated as a different version of the game. We can see this from the lists that have been appearing on this site over the last couple of days. There are quite a few and no signs of any shared lists like back in the PS3>PS4 days yet. They even have different shaped icons...

 

The big issue I see here is whether or not these new PS5 lists will auto pop if you can transfer your PS4 save. I can see both sides of the argument for whether auto popping these trophies would be a good thing, however, I think there will be serious issues if they don't, specifically for online games where your progress is saved to the developer's/publisher's server rather than locally on your console.

 

For example, if PS5 list trophies don't auto pop upon loading your progress from PS4:

 

• Spider-Man Miles Morales - You played the game and got 100% on PS4, now you have a PS5. You buy a PS5 and upgrade to the PS5 version - you want both plats? Start a new game save slot and do it all over again, it can probably be done in a couple of sessions. If you can't be bothered, chances are you don't care that much about having both lists complete anyway and you'll get over it.

 

• Destiny 2 - You have 100% trophies in the game on PS4. PS5 upgrade coming in December. Progress is saved on Bungie's servers. You load up the PS5 version of the game, login, no auto pop... What the hell are supposed to do if you want to platinum the game again/don't want a low percentage list stuck on your profile? For the trophies in that game you'd have to delete all 3 of your character slots entirely and re-invest potentially thousands of hours in the game again by starting from scratch. This would be a massive problem for existing players, because if you wanted to play the game on PS5, you'd basically either have to delete everything and start again or live with the fact that a lot of the list will be unattainable because you already have all of the exotics/triumph seals/maxed out all subclasses.

 

Anyway, just my thoughts. I'm super eager to keep an eye on this and to see how these PS5 lists work, and if they all work the same, or differently on a game by game basis. Looking forward to people testing it out and posting about what happens on here over the next few days.

I really hope Witcher 3 will get another stack once the next gen update is out. One of the very few games I‘d like to plat multiple times. Already got plat on 2 versions and working on the 3rd.

not looking foreward to the actual ps5 launch titles. I‘ll get spiderman and assassins creed, but playing them once is enough.

Updating this to say that auto-pops seem irregular. Assassin's Creed Valhalla doesn't have autopops, whereas No Man's Sky does (possibly excluding DLC). Perhaps a developer-by-developer thing?

Someone got 100% NMS in 1 second, so the whole game does autopop. Still curious if Cold War/Miles Morales/Borderlands 3, Dead By Daylight, would autopop.

I can confirm that for Madden NFL 21 MUT, The Yard and Cloud (Online) Franchise/Face of the Franchise modes over. You cannot transfer offline Franchise/Face of the Franchise! Upgrade will be live December 4th.

Hi all, I looked at the doc. Can anyone confirm if No Man's Sky auto pops all trophies for the plat, or if some work is requiring for one/two missing trophies? I have ALL requirements for trophies in the vanilla version (with the first patch)

I got it to pop for me this morning and my save file was from 2016.

I'll add this...some trophies may not all autopop for specific games. However, having multiple PS4 saves at various parts in the game right before each trophy requirement will pop trophies one by one quickly on PS5. So technically all games that have save transfer feature can pop trophies on PS5.
