QQQ_AX
What do you think looks best and is best for cooling? I've been reading around and all the people who have their consoles break are putting it in enclosed spaces and horizontal. Elvick_
idk about best cooling, but horizontal it's only touching the base that it comes with which I find interesting. I'd imagine that helps to keep it from getting hot since the surface is limited unlike placing it on a desk or something. I think it has an interesting look horizontal as well. I pretty much had to put it horizontal, otherwise it would cover part of the tv because it's so tall.
saiyanbloodstyle
Vertical for me, in a way that's forced because i don't have space to put it horizontal. But hey, let me get the PS5 first, still not out for me!
Ghost
Vertical. I have it on it's own stand. Love how it looks that way. Sony’s Yasuhiro Ootori has said that the PlayStation 5‘s cooling performance will remain the same regardless of how players position the console. "From the designer’s point of view, there is no difference in cooling performance between vertical and horizontal installation. I think some people think that the heat dissipation efficiency should be higher in the vertical installation due to the chimney effect. However, in a cooling system with an active fan (electric fan), the chimney effect is at the measurement error level. It works according to the specifications in both horizontal and vertical installation. Personally, I like the vertical placement where the top and bottom of the “PS logo” can be seen correctly (laughs)." peffsi
I have a digital edition, and I put it vertically with the base attached. On top of a desk. Airflow for days. I prefer the vertical look, as well. (The only thing I don't like is that the USB ports are in the middle) It would not surprise me if a significant percentage of people having issues have stuffed it into an entertainment centre where it barely fits, and probably without the base, too. The instructions tell you to make sure the rear of the PS5 is at least 4" away from the wall.
djb5f
I had my PS3 vertical and my PS4 horizontal. For space reasons, my PS5 will be vertical.
parkerdip
I always have horizontal and this time i do think it looks better vertical but I don’t have room for that
Helyx
Horizontal is the only way.
OpenScars
I'm praying that I can get a launch date order at midnight tomorrow. If I do, it will be going horizontal as I can't fit it any other way.
GT__Jedi
Vertical, because it takes up less space, and I have my PS3, PS4 and PS5 all on the same desk with my 2 monitors. So, works for me. Edited November 17, 2020 by PermaFox
thefourfoldroot
Have to wait a couple of days, but mine will be vertical. It’s the only way I can have the space for it.
EDJ3DG
Vertical. Got some big ass hands so putting in/ejecting discs is real awkward for me when it's horizontal.
Swotam
Vertical, mostly due to the fact that my use case of switching it between the TV and a gaming monitor requires me to put it in a spot where both HDMI cables can reach it, and that spot will only accommodate vertical placement. DanielVT
I've never stored a console vertically and my ps3 and ps4 are still horizontal, but there was no way the PS5 was gonna be anything but vertical. Its standing next to my TV stand. Its literally made to be an art piece. I freaking love it.
Japanime_Gamer
I collect my pre-order on Thursday and I have voted horizontal because that is how my console will lie. Mostly this is because of the unit that I have (my current PS4 Pro is horizontal because of this) but also because I have 4 cats and I am scared they will knock it over
PsYcHoNxVa
Always horizontal.
Trini
Vertical, less space which equates to less dust falling on it. Also, looks better standing vertical imo.
xI3i0_HuNt3r-
Vertical if it’s down stairs in the sitting room, horizontal if it’s up in bedroom.
ImMagnetz
I think it'll have to be vertical for me simply because I don't really have the space to have it horizontal. I do think it looks better vertical though so that's fine with me.
nufc365
It will be going horizontal for me as vertical it would cover the tv, it's an open stand though so no chance of overheating!
Z1MZUM
Vertical, I don't have the space. Ps2/3/4 and 5 all on the same table. Honestly it's a complete mess and I wanted to give the ps5 some space to breath.
FFATMA
I just got mine about 20 minutes ago and after realizing that it won’t actually fit in my entertainment console, it’s currently vertical on a slab of wood in front of the entertainment unit until I figure out a better setup! I have one of those 4 by 2 IKEA cube bookshelves on its side and I have consoles in each cube, but I guess I’ll have to do something different now! QQQ_AX
Horizontal is fine, but from what I read, I think it's because people keep stuffing it into enclosed cabinets. The PS5 really needs a lot of air flow. Many of them are breaking!
Taliesin_2943
Mine lays on my bed with me or rather lays on a tray on it's base cause I live in a tiny ass room with no free space
