Questions about coming back to the game...

I got the plat and did all the episodes, but not royal, comrades, or ardyn and I have a few questions about coming back to finish the game now.

1: I've read about a chapter select, whats this about losing all my save progress though if I use it?

2: Can I easily go back and do all the royal content with my base game save, or do I need to start again? Is this where chapter select comes in? Will I need to grind or make any extra preparations for anything?
3: If I already put my old comrades save data in the new standalone version, will I have to start over if I want to go back and do the base game comrades?

I can answer your question on comrades. Once you transfer your save over to standalone, your progress will be transferred over, too. You will just have to find Kenny again.
