Keep Calm Sequence Failing

Has anyone else had trouble with these sequences?

 

I've not succeeded in one single instance during this game, it's as though it doesn't even register the fact I'm pressing X. I'm trying to keep everyone alive but I've just lost Taylor because of this. I've seen people have issues with Keep Calm but mostly with clicking too early, this is purely a matter of the button pushing not working.

If there isn't any way to get around this, can I keep all of them alive whilst avoiding all keep calm sequences that end in death (and avoid other trophy failings)?

 

QTE's are fine, it's just the Keep Calm nonsense.
