For those who cannot reach the NPC from "The Mirage" quest series before disappearing you may do the following trick.

 

After you've spotted the NPC, turn the camera so as to lose it from your sight, then approach it but without bringing it back to your sight, otherwise, it will complete its animation and then disappear.

Don't worry about passing or not reaching it. The cutscene will be triggered as soon as you're close enough to it.

 

I hope it will help you complete it in less time than I did.
