My best guess as to his race is a Nord, they usually have pretty beefy armor. As for the armor I would read a book called "Gathering Force: Arms and Armor of Tamriel" from The Hero's Guide to The Elder Scrolls Online (worth every penny). It displays some nice armor sets for all races and guilds, they even have some Daedra and Worm Cultist armors.
