Am I doing something wrong? Multiple replays of the same level?

I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong because the guide says this can be done in 10 hours but I need to get all the cousins which require an entire replay for each one and I'm now working on the bird and elephant level but it seems like I need to replay this same level SIX times????? there are 4 cousins and then I need to get the king and queen each of which require a separate run of the level. Do I really need to spend over an hour and half replaying the exact same level or is there a better way to do this?
