Seven years after the release of World War II strategy game Company of Heroes, the sequel is coming to PC and Mac on June 25, publisher Sega said Wednesday.

Company of Heroes 2 will put players in control of Soviet forces in the year 1941, and its creators are promising advanced features like environmental destructibility and a dynamic weather system.

The sequel was originally announced with a launch date set in May, but the developers promise that the extra time in development will be put to good use. In a letter written to fans on Sega’s website, series producer Greg Wilson announced that a closed beta will be coming soon, although more details on that front aren’t yet available.

Sega acquired Relic Entertainment, which is also known for its Warhammer 40,000 franchise, when the bankrupt publisher THQ auctioned off its properties in January. Sega paid $26.6 million for the acquisition. Relic was in a celebratory mood after being purchased.

A movie based on the Company of Heroes series was released just weeks ago in February, but thus far has failed to achieve the critical acclaim of the game series
