Speedrun Level Times & Tips

Managed to scrape through on the speedrun trophy for this yesterday and something that I think would have helped me (at least psychologically) is knowing whether or not I was actually on course to finish in time.

Scoured the internet a bit but couldn't find any solid information to help with time goals, so I made note of the floor times as I was going.

* You need to backtrack through floor 5 after doing floor 6

† The location of keys and quest items force you to go back and forward between floors 10-11, so I've just combined their time.

 

This was by no means a perfect run, but I was concious of every step and turn, and didn't deviate much at all from the most direct route.

I had stop time mode enabled 100% of the time (my hats off to anyone that did this speedrun before they added this feature!)

I abused the heck out of quicksave/quickload to make sure I didn't miss any attacks and even more once getting the Repeater to ensure every shot triggered the instant cooldown

Unfortunately quicksave is disabled for the final boss fight, so you'll have to rely on actual luck (I still just spammed with the Repeater as it's effect triggers often enough, you'll just want to make sure you have several hundred bullets).

 

There are a few items worth wasting some time to retrieve, for me it was the Momentum shotgun (in a secret on floor 5) Repeater pistol and Switcher gadget (that were both in the same chest on floor 7)

- Momentum has a chance to knock enemies back so you can push them into pits.

- The Repeater has a 50% chance of instant cooldown (so you can effectively machine gun enemies to death in a couple of game seconds by save/load spamming).

- The Switcher gadget allows you to pass by single enemies in corridors and doorways, saving a heap of time.

This isn't really a guide for getting the trophy, but I hope it at least answers some of the questions that someone who wants to tackle it will have.

Technically I got this on the first try, but lets not talk about the 1000+ quicksave/quickloads. ?

I was working on a guide for Vaporum but became overly busy so I'm glad there is still activity for this game. A big thing that helps (though I figured this trick out AFTER getting the platinum). This honestly reminds me that I should finish it.

 

Here's my personal tip for the speedrun trophy:

 

Poisoned Chamber skip

The poison does a flat %health every tick. According to the devs on discord the poison has damage range that's roughly 15%. With a couple of attempts you can:

1.) Use repair kit to start healing yourself

2.) Enter the poisoned chamber and make your way to the lever. Pull the lever and then gain enough exp to level up through exp pots.

3.) The healing from leveling up can get you through the room skipping the entire floor.

 

It requires saving a few exp pots and timing your experience on floor 7 but it saves a whopping 8 minutes on average. Which is HUGE.
