Just me or is this game really hard?

I can occasionally win the first two races in season 1 but electrika onwards I literally have no chance. No matter how well I find myself able a random opponent just gets 15 seconds ahead with no chance of reaching them. Also it's very inconsistent how to win, sometimes I do incredibly fast lap times and get forced into fourth place and sometimes I'm like 40 seconds slower and somehow win??? 

I don't know how to do well when the AI is like this.

Yeah this post is pretty embarrassing looking back but for anyone else facing trouble. I've boiled the problem down to learning how to deal with rubberbanding and careful use of power-ups. More often than not the ideal would be for you to be in second or third by a little coming into the final lap and then using the super boost and infinite boost power-ups to get ahead before the race ends. Don't fret being in a bad position coming into that final lap as you might get really lucky with the power-ups and still win. Hope this helps anyone stumbling upon this thread
