True Avengers in each level?

Hello, I just started this game and when checking the guide it says to get all gold bricks, you need to get the true avenger rank in each level. Can this be done in regular story or only in free play mode? In most levels, I can barely get above 50% so should I ignore the coins for now and only collect them in free play mode?

You can get true avenger in story mode the first time playing the level. 

But you often need to destroy just about everything in the level. 

Since you have to replay the level in freeplay anyways it's best to wait until you get some stud multipliers before worrying about true avenger.
