Few tips for a great game

Hereby a few tips to make your trip across the trophy seas a bit more efficient. The gameplay is very similar to Rebel Galaxy, only you'll be in a boat instead of a spaceship. I really liked the game and it took me approx. 15 hours to plat.

  • Start on King of Seas difficulty as the difficulty trophies stack. This difficulty has permadeath, so make sure you save a lot at ports or cartographer. The game doesn't save after completing a quest.
  • If you die, back out to the PS homescreen and hard stop the game. Don't wait too long because after the sinking animation the game will save and bring you back to the main menu.
  • To be 100% sure you don't loose your game, disable auto syncing of your saves and manually back up a savegame to the cloud every so often.

  • King of Seas difficulty is hard, especially in the early stages of the game. So my advice is to stay out of combat until you've finished the main quest mission where you'll have to fight. The other boats will one shot you with ease. The enemies get stronger when you get stronger.
  • In combat, the AI follows you. This mechanic enables easier combat when you have the 'explose barrel' specialist and 'welcome to hell' first mate. Just make sure they follow you and drop your barrels and shoot your fireballs. If you want to fight side by side I'd advice 'pee-on-those-cannons'. The 'tentacle slam' is awesome as well, but only works if the enemies are slow in the water.
  • You start of with a small but quite fast boat. You'll be travelling a lot and it won't go fast, so be aware of this. In the main questline at some point you'll have to buy a bigger boat, but you can also buy something else before or after. The quest just wants you to buy the flute. I went for the brig when I could buy it and finished the game with it.
  • Abilities don't transfer over between ships. So if you have created an ocean death machine and are eager to give it a try on a different boat, you'll have to get the abilities again.
  • To travel a bit faster use your talent points on the travelling related talents. After that I focussed on fire damage and cooldown reduction, but that's up to your liking. Travelling gets even quicker with the 'man-o-war' special weapon, 'ethereal navigation' boatswain and 'deadly wake' specialist.

  • The map layout of the 49 islands is generated per save, so don't try to use any maps online, they're all different. Islands are the same, but different places.

  • Don't worry about gold in the early stages, you'll get more then enough later. Make sure to sell everything at the port markets, except for the weapons you use and the repair kits. I finished with more than 1,5 million gold.

  • The ships with the best goods are the 'treasure' ships and 'royal navy commanders'. There's a big chance of these ships dropping legendary loot or treasure maps.
  • I'm quite sure the 'sunken treasures' trophies can be cheesed. Save your game close to a sunken treasure, go grab it, exit the game to main menu and reload. I've tried this on PS5 and it worked. I stumbled upon this after I grabbed a treasure, died shortly after, reloaded the save via the PS homescreen, grabbed it again and it popped. This shouldn't be possible if the counts of treasure were connected to your save. The cheesing method does not work for settlements.

  • In the early stages for XP gathering grab every item you see in the ocean and on land and fish when possible.
  • For late XP gathering to grind to level 60 go for the settlements takeovers. Park your boat next to the fort, enable the pee-on-those-cannons ability, spam your cannons and while doing so enable the 'ethereal navigation' ability to be immortal.
  • Note: the final questline mission is called 'last voyage'. This triggers the final fights. After this questline you can't continue playing, your last save before this final quest is what remains. It also doesn't save any xp you got from the final quest, so take note when this missions pops up and avoid the fortress as this will trigger the final fights.
  • Early in the main questline you'll get to the restaurant where you'll be able to start a side-quest to fish. You'll have to complete the 2 side-quests in order to get the legendary rod. The fishes are marked as a grey/green/blue glint on your map. Quest 1 allows you to catch the grey ones, quest 2 grey and green and quest 3 grey, green and blue. The blue ones give a good amount of xp and gold when you sell the fishes. List of fishes in spoiler:
