Question About the Servers

I just got Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition for the PS3 for free by a friend. For what I've read it not only contains Reaper of Souls but also contains the original game with improvements like a better loot system and etc. But with these changes, can a player with Ultimate Evil Edition play with someone who owns the vanilla D3 online? Or does both players have to own the same versions of the game.

I'm sure they both need D3:RoS.

 

I tried this myself and it didn't work. I also think they need to be on the same console. So if a friend has PS4 version and you the PS3, you can't join them either.

 

(At least I couldn't do these things.)
