Kuushii Doll Question

So I've got the Kuushii Doll and the description says it allows me to keep my items if I fail. This may be an obvious question but is simply carrying it in my inventory enough for it to work or do I have to use it before I die? If the later then is there a limit to how long it lasts, (One floor, one dungeon, until I die/fail)? Also is it single use and will disappear after I use it?

So if anybody else is wondering, I experimented myself and here's the answer. Kuushi Doll IS single use but you don't have to activate it, just have it in your inventory and when you die you'll warp back to town with everything still in your inventory except for the Kuushi doll. If while in a dungeon you go to your items and select the use option the on screen text will say something like 'you used Kuushi doll but nothing happened' and it will disappear from your inventory without any benefit at all.
