damon8r351
This game, unlike No Man's Sky, will let you strand yourself way out in uninhabited space while out of fuel, unable to hyperspace yourself to somewhere where you can refuel yourself. You can't just manufacture fuel out of easy to find resources, you either have to buy it or siphon it from a star. Stations are only in inhabited space, and while you can mount a fuel scoop on your ship to siphon fuel from stars, you can only do it with certain spectral types. And if you plan on getting the trophy for visiting Sagittarius A, you're going to be way outside of inhabited space for awhile. The important thing to remember when you're looking at your galaxy map is the acronym KGBFOAM. These are the only star spectral types you can scoop fuel from. When you're plotting a course and you see the line on the map becomes dashed, that means you will run out of fuel at that point. Better hope you're near a scoopable star or a station at that time. Or better yet, plan ahead. Here's a good video tutorial on fuel scooping: Another video of general info related to fuel: An infographic from the Fuel Rats themselves on how to set up your galaxy map so you only see scoopable stars when you're making a long distance trip: Finally, if all else fails and you end up stranding yourself, there's a group of role-players in the Elite community called the Fuel Rats who act as roadside service and will kindly come help you out no matter where you are. 20,000ly outside of inhabited space? No problem. Only thing, as of release they're still getting the community fully set up on PS4, so it's not quite as robust as it is on Xbox and PC, at least not yet. damon8r351
Also, not directly related to maintaining your fuel supply but still related to getting an edge while traveling in the frontier, you can supercharge your Frame Shift Drive (your FTL engine) by interacting with a white dwarf or a neutron star. White dwarves and neutron stars can't be scooped for fuel, so don't try this when you're out of fuel because you're going to need to leave the system after you do this. The gist is to enter the relativistic jet of one of these two types of stars to grant a one-time bonus to your FSD's jump range (50% from white dwarves, 300% from neutron stars). The process can result in damage to your ship, larger ships tend to be better at surviving it, and your controls will go crazy while you're doing it, so it's advisable to try it out a couple times for practice before you have to try it later as a last ditch effort to get out of stranding yourself. http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/FSD_Supercharging Edited June 29, 2017 by damon8r351
