You actually invest Ore in the Mine defenses over time so you can set up Gatling Guns, Sniper Nests and Decoys (each with their own individual upgrades like the town buildings). So you won't get to the 20th wave on your first attempt, but by your 4th of 5th attempt your defenses (and settlers) will be upgraded enough to make it relatively easy. The only mildly frustrating trophy was for finding all of the lock boxes. They're all these tiny egg-shaped confetti balls that contain a little bit of wood and food.
